Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter melted and then cooled for at least 5 minutes* (226g)
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar packed (300g)
1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g)
2 large eggs room temperature preferred
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup maple syrup (60ml)
3 1/4 cups all purpose flour (415g)
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups chocolate chips I used half regular semisweet chips and half mini semisweet chips
Instructions
00:00 Introduction
00:30 In a large bowl, stir together melted butter and sugars.
Add eggs, one at a time, stirring until combined.
Stir in vanilla extract and maple syrup.
02:51 In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
04:01 Gradually add flour mixture to wet ingredients, stirring until completely combined.
Stir in chocolate chips.
04:54 Cover bowl with clear wrap and allow to chill for at least 30 minutes (chilling!? I told you, this recipe is the worst.)
While the dough is chilling, preheat oven to 350F (175C) and prepare cookie sheets by lining with parchment paper (if you don't have parchment paper, you can bake directly on an ungreased cookie sheet).
05:02 Scoop about 2-2 1/2 Tablespoons of cookie dough and roll into balls, making them slightly taller than they are wide. Place them at least 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheet.
Bake about 13 minutes (cookies will appear to be a bit underdone, but edges should be just beginning to turn golden brown).
Allow cookies to cool completely on cookie sheet. If desired, gently press a few chocolate chips on top of the hot cookies.
Keep unbaked cookie dough in fridge while waiting to put the next batch in the oven, and do not place cookie dough on a hot cookie sheet.

You are my favorite to watch! Your deserts are bomb and easy to follow your directions and you give the correct amount of ingredients. Also love how you put your ingredients in the comments so I can just look after I've watched the video if I'm not doing it as I watch you that is lol .
Thank you so much! 😊
I made these. My very picky friend said they were the best she’s ever had!! They are really good. Thanks for sharing.
Its 1054 PM on day 6 of quarantine. No bedtime for the kids. No real rules anymore. I dont even know who's in charge of this house anymore. All I know is I'm pounding these out a dozen at a time right now to use as currency with the kids. Thanks for all these recipes to try and break the monotony!!
😂😂 at least everyone is still safe! 😊
lady you’re a genius, not only because of the recipe but because I would never have clicked on it if you hadn’t given it such a great title haha. this is my favorite recipe by far!!!

Thanks for following along! I hope you love the cookies too. 😊
I’ve made these recently and received a ton of compliments. Thank you for sharing 😊
I’ve never been happy with other chocolate chip cookies recipes but this one is absolutely delicious! My husband has been asking for more since I baked some for his birthday. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad everyone loves them so much! 😊
So looking forward to trying this recipe. 👏🏻👏🏻 I’m always trying different chocolate chip recipes and I’ve never found a recipe that I LOVE. Can’t wait!
I don’t think this one will disappoint! Let me know how you like them. 😊
Damn girl! You are the queen of UA-cam bakers! This is the 2nd recipe from you that I have tried and it made the most absolute perfect cookie! I love how well put together and easy to follow your recipes are. 🥰
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! ☺️
Just made a batch of these from your recipe you posted online. Just saw your recipe had a video to go with! So I'd thought I'd tell you how they turned out!
So first off....I added candy canes since it's the season.
These were the best cookies I've ever made! Whole family loved them and it made so many!
I am so glad you enjoyed them! Candied pecans sound like an excellent addition! 😃
I made these cookies for a bachelor party. One of the people with us is a chef. Everyone who ate the cookies loved them. I was told to definitely make them again. Thank you very much for all of your recipes.
You're welcome! I'm glad everyone enjoyed them so much! :)
I have never been able to make good homemade chocolate chip cookies, but thanks to you, I did it! These were such a hit with my family. Even my niece who usually only likes cookie dough loves these!!!
Definitely my go to recipe !!! Love all your recipes!! Whenever we are looking for a sweet your channel is where we go!!!! Great!!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoy everything so much! 😊
Thank you so much for the recipe, I made these about 2 years ago for my mother and we loved them. This is my third time making them and I figured out how to watch the video on youtube so I could comment. I'm using maple syrup again but one batch we used Griffin's Butter Pecan syrup and those were delicious too :) My favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe by far!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoy them so much. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. :)
I was looking for a new chocolate chip cookie recipe and so glad this one came up. Thank you for all the details and hacks to make sure they turn our right .I followed all your directions and these cookies turned out amazing! Perfect shape l, texture, and taste. Thx again 🎉
You are very welcome!!! I’m so glad to hear that they turned out! 😊😊
Tried this recipe after the cheesecake. My family loved it and this is now my favorite recipe. Will be doing lemon cookies next time. Thank you for sharing!
I’m so glad you enjoyed them so much! I hope you love the lemon cookies too! 😊
I found out about these cookies from your blog post. It got me so curious and interested that I watched the video, and that’s when I decided to make them. When I read the words “the worst cookie” I had to see what it was all about. So I went out and got myself some unsalted butter (I read your post about the differences in butter 😊) and got to work. I thought for sure I’d be able to taste the maple syrup but didn’t. I followed your instructions and came out with really good cookies 🍪. Thank you for sharing your baking tips AND this recipe ❤
You are very welcome! I'm so glad everything was so helpful. I appreciate hearing all of the reading about different items before baking. :)
Definitely going to be making these. I love the addition of the syrup and studding some extra chocolate chips into the tops at the end. Thanks so much for the recipe and all the accompanying tips, especially how to handle ingredients so they don't ruin the cookie's final form.
You're welcome! I hope you love them! :)
Hi! I made these today and honestly think they are the best I've ever made. I love all of your recipes and the way you provide instructions. I've also made your oreo cheesecake brownies and thought they were awesome!!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you are enjoying everything. 😊😊
These are really great, I tried this recipe and everyone loved them, thx so much for sharing this recipe!!
That’s awesome! Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad everyone enjoyed them. 😊
I've made these. Your vanilla Cake, just made your nobake peanutbutter balls. The first desert of yours that I made was your pumpkin bars. I must say that every desert that I've made of yours has come out better than others that I've made. Taste so good and 100% perfect. You are my favorite. Thank you and keep making vids.
Thank you so much! 😊
I'm going to have to try these compared to what I normally bake! Thanks for the recipe
I think you are going to love them!
I just made a batch of these this morning, followed along with your wonderful video, and I, like you said, will be throwing out every chocolate chip cookie recipe I have ever had!!!! These are the best cookies!!! Thank you for your videos, you explain every step so clearly....it's like you are in my kitchen with me!!!!
I’m so glad you enjoyed them so much! 😊
Hey sweetie I’m so thrilled that I found you ! Going to try your pizza dough recipe today as well as your chocolate chip cookies
Yay! I hope you love them both 😊
Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe. At first I was hesitant to add the pancake syrup because I was worried that the cookies will be too sweet. To my surprise it just had the right level of sweetness. My family loved it. I combined half cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips and half cup walnuts. Perfect!
I'm so glad everyone enjoyed them so much! The syrup really does add that extra special touch. :)
Everyone absolutely LOVES my (your) chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies! They can't eat just one...of either!! Thanks for these delish recipes 😋!
You are so welcome! I'm so glad everyone enjoyed them so much. :)
I stumbled upon your blog looking for a biscuit recipe for my mom. Lol she was craving biscuits even tho she doesn’t bake 😅 anyway this video popped up while I was reading the biscuit recipe & I’ve been on the hunt for a realllllly good!! But a really good chewy CCC (choc. chip cookie) recipe. I love chewy. And I’ve had a good run but it hasn’t been consistent. I think my issue always comes from the butter. Maybe I’m not letting it cool enough, but then also flour may not be enough..🥶 Butttt I definitely want to try this!! Maybe one day I can send my recipe I have been adding/subtracting from due to successful/failed attempts to see if my measurements are off. That might help me. I haven’t gone to school yet for baking, BUT I will once I finish my BA in sociology tho. Lol I have lots I want to do 😅 sorry rant over
I made these for the 4th of July and everyone loved them!!! I have been instructed to make them all the time now!!
I am so glad everyone enjoyed them! :)
Ruined my life with these! You were right. I followed you to T and turned out incredible. Just amazing!
I'm so glad you enjoyed them so much! :)
I made this twice but cookie did not spread like yours, measured all ingredients accurately by the way. It tasted good though and the sweetness is just perfect. After trying countless recipe this is now my go to recipe :) thanks for the recipe girl. You look fab:)
I tried this recipe and it’s absolutely AMAZING!!!!
Thank you!!!!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed them! :)
Thank you for sharing this recipe. This is my go to recipe for oatmeal cookies. Thanks. Everyone loves this recipe.
You're welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed them! :)
Thankyou so much 😊 easiest chocolate chip recipe...no mixer required. I made it twice for my kids and they love it ❤
So, I've made these a few times. My go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe (after trying MANY). A favorite of my co-workers, too. A few tweaks that I like. #1 is browned butter (using your tutorial) OMG browned butter is AMAZING! #2 is a *little* more flour to keep them from spreading as much. Also, I use pancake syrup instead of maple syrup (because poor person), and since pancake syrup is a little more in-your-face, I go with 3 Tbsp instead of a quarter-cup. Keeps that "secret ingredient" more of a secret. Even without the minor tweaks, this recipe is GOLD and thank you so much Sam for sharing!!!!
That is so awesome! I’m so glad you enjoy them so much! I haven’t made them with browned butter yet but I’m sure it would be insanely awesome. I too use pancake syrup pretty frequently for these and they still turn out awesome. Be careful not to eat too many! 😉😊
@@SugarSpunRun They're SOOOOOOOOOOO good with browned butter!!!
My friend told me about your recipe and honestly, it's the best one! I made them around Christmas so I swapped regular chocolate chips for mint ones and they were amazing! Thanks for the recipe!
I am so glad you like them, Evangii! I bet those mint chips in there tasted excellent! Great idea. I’ll have to try it myself. 😊
Yes I will be trying this recipe thank you!
I hope you love it! 😊
How was it?
OK! I made these for Holiday treats. They were hands down the best chocolate chip cookies I have ever made. Here we are with Easter coming. These will be on the counter for sure! 😋😋😋
Wonderful!
This recipe is amazing! I highly recommend weighing the flour instead of using measuring cups.
I am so glad you enjoyed the cookies! I agree with weighing ingredients. It’s always more accurate. That’s why I leave the weights in the printable recipe. 😊
@@SugarSpunRun Thank you so much for including weights. It really is the "weigh" to go.
😂😂 I agree! 😊
I'm going to risk it and make these for my hubby! Thanks for the recipe 😁👍🍪🍪
Enjoy! 😊😊
I broke down and bought a hand mixer, and so it's got me thinking of cookies. OF COURSE I came to your channel. I will be making these very soon and see if they replace my favorite cc cookie recipe.
And don't ya know I don't need my new mixer for this. lol
Sounds like you'll be doing lots of baking to break in that mixer! Have fun! :)
I'm lucky to find you! Your recipes are fantastic. I have tried the nutella and the the worst chocochip cookies and both turned out great. I love the way you guide on each recipe. By the way, I'm writing from a country that is located in the middle of the world.
I am so glad you have enjoyed everything so much! :)
I’m going to try this today! I really like your tips, I’ve tried some many recipes and I always end disappointed! Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
Thank you so much! I hope you love these! 😊

Melibeth Velasquez how were they?
GREAT job, GREAT recipe, GREAT video, GREAT blog!
I made these for my family ❤...They have become our new go to cookie recipe...They camebout looking like I bought them from a bakery. Thank you so much!❤
You're welcome! I'm so glad everyone enjoyed them so much! :)
I made these cookies twice. The first time I didn't have 100% maple syrup only Log Cabin pancake syrup. I also used commercial butter (regular stick butter. ie: land o lakes) They were really tasty, though it did have a slight syrupy taste (not at all offensive). I followed instructions to a T, but they did slightly spread (maybe it was the weather; a bit humid), they were still delicious. The second time I made them with 100% maple syrup and grass fed butter (Kerry Gold). They did not spread as much as the first time around ( we were in the 30'sF). The taste was much milder on the syrup side and they held their shape better and had a crunch edge and chewy middle. Super good too! So for me the difference in ingredients did give a slight different taste, but both were really good. They also have lots of chocolate, so if you're not a fan of a lot of chocolate chips, cut back a bit. Five stars from me. Will make again and again. Thanks for the recipe!
Thank you for an intelligent and informative review and critique.
I am on my 8th experiment of trying to replicate the Mrs fields cookies of the 1980’s. She only gave away 2 clues: a) she baked at 300 degrees
b) she added so much chocolate chunks that the cookies would almost not hold together.
Obviously the cookies were baked longer but she did not say how much.
If you ever get close to her cookies please let me know.
@@emiliamartucci8291 Mrs. Field's and Toll House at the mall. Reminds me of when I was a kid and only wanted to go to the mall for the cookies. So good! Thank goodness for the internet and Sam at Sugar Spun Run, we can now try and make them at home with the best ingredients and not the junk they put in them now.
I made these cookies yesterday and they are THE WORST! They are so good that I can't stop eating them. I was skeptical about the maple syrup but it works. I will be making them again for the holiday season.
I'm so glad you enjoyed them so much! The maple syrup throws off a lot of people but it really does make these cookies next level awesome!
Thank you. Good work.
You're welcome! :)
Have you ever tried adding espresso powder? I love adding it to cookies as a flavor enchanter.
Hi Sam I made these cookies today. Omg they are so yummy. Once again thanks for sharing
I'm so glad you enjoyed them! :)

This is the first time I make cookies, they are so chewy and full of flavor, came out looking nice too, except my plate is not big enough so eight cookies turn out four twin cookies haha thank you for the great recipe Sam !
I am so glad you enjoyed them so much! :)
These were great! Made them for family and friends. Everyone told me it’s the best ccc they’ve ever had!
Yay! I’m so glad everyone enjoyed them! 😊
Sweet cream/salted butter all I had so I scaled back the salt a pinch. Good recipe
I’m glad you enjoyed the cookies! 😊
I make these all the time and they are the most loved in our house! So good.
I’m so glad everyone enjoys them so much! 😊😊
These are my go-to chocolate chip cookies! Browned butter makes them even better. They're DELICIOUS and a HIT with whomever I share them with! Kudos to you, Sam, for a killer recipe!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoy them so much! 😊
Ooooh, wait! So you brown your butter first, let it cool, then continue the recipe from there? That sounds delicious! ❤
@@TheRealHousewifeOfPG Yes indeed! Since this recipe already uses melted butter, browned butter is an easy substitute if you have a little extra time. Fair warning that browned butter will take longer to cool to room temp than butter that is only just melted.
The cookies turned out DELICIOUS! I'm making them again today or tomorrow using browned butter. I'm sure they'll be even more epic. I'll be back😂😉
Nails or scorpions? Girl, the recipe just got wild. Hahaha! Cookies looked delicious, good job!
😂😂😂 thank you so much! 😊
My husband and I wanted chocolate chip cookies tonight, but didn't have shortening, which is what my mom's recipe called for...I remember watching this a while back and looked it up... I made your cheesecake yesterday and tried it today it was delicious 😋 I was wondering if i can use dark brown sugar instead of light for these cookies?
Sure thing! 😊

Hi 👩🍳 ,,,,well I will try those WORST cookies because of the title 🤣😂🤣and I’m sure I’ll love them thank you 😊
I hope you do! :)
This is literally the best cookies I have ever made. Only difference was I browned the butter. Thank you!
I’m so glad you enjoyed them so much! I lovvvveee using brown butter. 😊😊
Going to make this and your other one using brown butter and compare them. Going to brown the butter for this one too. Seems the only difference is the maple syrup?
Cant wait to make these tomorrow 😌
Hope you love them!
I made these cookies earlier and they were the best I ever made/had! Everyone loved them... so moist and soft :) You're right... they're so good but they're the WORST cookies I ever had haha. This recipe destroyed all other cookies for me haha. It's either these or none now :) Thank you!! Going to make the chocolate banana bread next.
I'm so happy you enjoyed them! Hope the banana bread turns out just as well 😍
These are the best chocolate chip cookies I have made till date and will be go to recipe going forward !
I'm so happy you like them! ♥
How about using browned butter for the one cup in this recipe?
Also I saw a recipe on your blog for kitchen sink cookies, I was thinking about making those, how does this batter compare to the kitchen sink batter, is one softer than the other, I noticed the kitchen sink one uses butterscotch pudding mix. I'm trying to decide whether to bake these or the kitchen sink recipe? I like a soft cookie.
They are both pretty soft cookies. The kitchen sink cookies may be a little softer, but you really can’t go wrong with either one. 😊
@@SugarSpunRunOkay Great, thanks for responding so quickly.
it is really the best cookie ever, everyone always ask me to do it again every time, life savor Sam thanks
I am so glad everyone enjoyed them so much! :)
@@SugarSpunRun can I use dark brown sugar instead of light brown?
Can I take some of the batter and bake in a baking dish??
I've tried this yesterday and right now I'm reaping the hard labour of mixing this thick dough and waiting to chill it oh my god.... it's so good... the chew, the crispy outside, the sweetness. I am having a hard time holding myself back
So glad you liked them so much! They are worth the effort 😊
Costco sells a liter (33.8 ozs) size container of real delicious Maple syrup for $10 and the container's even cute...I used some to make Pralines and I know you are spot on with how it will give an added 'amazing' flavor to a recipe....
I will have to check that out! Thanks for the tip. 😊
Made these cookies on Friday and turned out with 24 large cookies. Its now Sunday evening and only 5 cookies are left. Thank you for the recipe.
I'm so glad everyone enjoyed them so much! :)
Here I am it's Christmas Eve and I am baking these cookies for my children and grandchildren. I really like that they are called the worst cookies ever because they are very tasty and very addictive. This is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever!
Thanks for using my recipe! Have fun ❤️
I just made these cookies this afternoon and they are totally delicious! The cookie dough (which I guess we're not supposed to eat) was the best cookie dough I've ever had! Mine turned out a little flat, but the edges were delicately crispy and the centers were soft and chewy. I highly recommend these cookies!
It is not recommended to eat the dough because of the raw eggs, but I can't say I haven't been guilty of doing the same thing once or one hundred times. 🤣 I'm glad you enjoyed the cookies. :)
@@SugarSpunRun - Cookie dough is impossible for me to resist, even though I know it's not recommended. I'm glad I'm not the only one! 😉
looks good yummy 😋
Thank you 😋

I’m so glad you enjoyed the cookies! 😊😊
This is my favorite cookie recipe! I do modify it, but the point still stands. Whenever I share with my friends, they always harrass me for the recipe 😂
Thank you so much! I am so glad you enjoy them so much! 😊
Hi! I’ve already tried this recipe and i love it! However, i want to try some experiment. Ist okay to put some walnuts on this cookie or anything that can blend on its taste? Thank you! ☺️
I'm glad you enjoyed it so much! An addition of some nuts would work just fine here. :)
I cannot find maple syrup in any of the stores so can I use honey or pancake syrup instead of maple syrup?
Yup that will work just fine.😊
I only have two cookie sheets and I have used pizza trays as cookie sheets
Great idea! :)
Very yummy
Hello Sam, you recommended OXO cookie sheet but it’s no longe available. Do you have another recommendation?
O no! I'm so sorry! I have added a link in the description to a chicago metallic baking sheet. They are also very nice. :)
Hi. What is the best substitute for maple syrup if you have none. There is no pancake syrup akso. I can't find any in our stores. Thank you 😊
Some people have used honey but it will change the flavor profile. 😊
Baked these this afternoon with my niece, along with your chocolate cookies. These taste great, kids loved them. They did spread more than I'd like, but I didn't use a scale, so next time I'll be adding a bit more flour. I used real maple, and I agree with you, no one detected maple specifically, they wanted to keep eating the dough. Thank you🧡
The flavor is so subtle but it works wonders for the texture too. I’m glad everyone enjoyed them! 😊
I have a friend who is diabetic so I’m wondering if I can reduce the sugar and butter for the recipe? And also I’m a little confused, who do some people beat their butter for cookies and some people melt them?
Hmm reducing the butter and sugar wouldn’t really be a good idea for these cookies. You could reduce the sugar more so than the butter and they would still turn out. As far as melting butter vs beating it in, it really depends on the consistency you are trying to obtain. Using melted butter ends up making them flatter and richer in flavor in most cases but it really depends on the recipe.
Hey, thanks for the great recipe. Is it normal that they are oily? People are complaining that the cookies are oily and too "heavy" for them. I also notice when I pick them up that they leave my hands a bit oily (or greasy) I'm sorry if my communications are bad, english isn't my first language. Thank you
They shouldn't be really oily. If you let them cool on the pan for a few minutes and then transfer to a cooling rack it could potentially help with this issue.
Looks delicious, I was curious as to why you shaped them this way instead of round balls. Can I shape them in round balls instead? Also another question; I prefer mine to be bigger like jumbo size; can I shape them in large round balls?
The cookies flatten out as they bake. You should roll them into balls to provide a nice even baking. As far as making them much larger, you run the risk of the outside getting hard while the inside is still uncooked. I do have a giant chocolate chip cookie recipe video you could check out for some nice big tasty cookies. 😊
@@SugarSpunRun Okay, thanks I'll check it out.
Can this be made into cookie bars or use a silicone mold??? Any suggestions
I haven’t tried it so I’m not sure how it would work. I do have a few cookie bars on my website and a couple of videos here on UA-cam I’d recommend checking out. 😊 sugarspunrun.com/chocolate-chip-cookie-bars/
For how long I can keep the batter before baking it? Can it last for few days? Also I like to be consistent in baking so approx how many grams of batter I should put as 1 cookie? I don't have an ice cream scooper so I'll make balls of batter and bake them but I want them to be close in size to yours.
One more question sorry I forgot to ask: I have 270 grams light brown sugar only and have plenty of dark brown sugar. Can I use 270 g light brown sugar and 30 g dark brown sugar?
Thanks a lot in advance :)
The dough will keep for several days wrapped tightly in the refrigerator. I haven’t actually weighed one of the scoops of dough. I know they are typically about 2 to 2.5 tablespoons in size. The dark brown sugar will work fine here. 😊
Loved the flavor but they were flat. I weighted the flour what else could I do??
Oh no! These are a thinner cookie but if yours were too flat, make sure your butter isn't too hot when adding the sugars as that can cause the cookies to spread. I hope that helps. :)
Can I brown the butter? 🧈
That would be good 😋
Other people have made these with brown butter with success so it should work for you. :)
I have a little tip for easy release of the maple syrup..(Karo , too), put about 1/4-1/2 tsp. of oil in cup, & smear All around inside your cup. 🙃‼️… the syrup will slide out 😋‼️
Great idea! :)
Any substitute for maple syrup please? Its not available in my country
You can use any pancake syrup really. :)
