I can't believe how mint that horn looks. In some ways, it's a crime ;-) Meaning it didn't get played enough!

The horn actually got played a good bit, just super well cared for. Check out the stand marks.

It's really annoying having to deal with pads that won't re-seat due to a lack of shellac. It's good to know why they did it this way, at least in the past.

Hi, Matt! What can you say about self leveling pads? Not only about the idea of it, but the "popular" construction like Jim Schmidt gold pads ang music medic neo pads.

Have you ever had a selmer sax with the extra "concert" or "conservatory" keywork (fork E-flat, right hand G-sharp, high F-sharp, right hand high C-D trill key) that they used to offer on the SBA and Mk VI?

      I have.

@@StohrerMusic Very nice, what about the "harmonic key" mechanism that was offered on their series ii and iii altos and tenors? I haven't been able to find any solid or consistent information on the specifics of what that extra key does.

Great video Matt! May I ask what that acid bleed stuff is? Is that just from corrosion and is there any way to prevent it/treat it? There seems to be a little bit on the horn im currently testing out. Thanks

Cool to see! Are you going to be overhauling this horn, or was that Eb pad the only work it needed?

It is going to be for sale on getasax.com, in the condition shown in the video. If the new owner decides to have it overhauled and they want me to do it, I might get to work on it! But the work I did today was just to clean it up, free up a few sluggish keys, do a deep inspection, and get it over the finish line as far as making saxophone noises (it was very close) so potential buyers can judge the sound. I might see it again, but it is likely however that the future owner will either decide to keep it as-is and store it away for a future generation or they have their trusted repairer do the work after purchase.

Truly fascinating. Hey Matt do you think soldering the bow to body is worth it?

I think the joint needs sealed to be leak free, but I don't personally think it makes a difference if it is soldered or epoxied.

I would trade my oldest child for that horn.
