I really like your ideal of buying a basket backhoe, i got a chance to buy a basket case ( engine in boxes ). It's complete but the engine had a knock an was torn down, crank turned an new cam bearing installed, head was redone getting a rebuild kit an having rods checked. All pins are tight an no cyclinders are leaking. HOPE MY 1,000 DOLLAR deal is worth it. Thanks JOHN M.
we must be cut from the same cloth. i just bought a 1972 580 b for the farm. the trans is out and needs rebuilt but damn it runs good. definitely worth the time and money to repair. I also have a 1982 300 sd i bought for nearly nothing. runs great i never knew they would run on just used motor oil. people need to understand that one mans trash is another mans treasure. hope your backhoe repair goes well...... caveman,
I've got 110 acra farm with 10 acras of natural bank and sand gravel pit that has never been dug out . I'm planing on digging out sand and gravel and stocking piling loads
Me too I love old machines because they were made better than the ones now and you can work on the old ones but on these new ones you have too take them to the shop because of the computers in them and a old man asked me why old machines are all rusty he said because they last long enough to rust and he said new machines won't never last 50 or 30 years
I, bought a 1966, ck 530 case 188 Diesel Backhoe it's been all rebuilt / I also bought a 1973, Ford F-700 10ft Body 5-spd 2-spd rear AXLE Air Brakes 361
I'm now building a homemade 20ft Deck over Equipment TriAxle trailer for hauling the Backhoe on and pulling everything with the Dump trk stump removed footings ditches sand and gravel Delivered septic tanks installed
I've got a 1969 310G crawller with a hoe Diesel 188 nice old machine replacing cylinder seals. I also have a extra engine and trans. located n Glasgow KY.
Nice old machine. I have a 1968 580CK 188 diesel myself that needs some top-end engine work. She's kind of a rare bird, with a factory cab, a manual extend-a-hoe, and a manual rear bucket quick connector. Bought her cheap b/c of the engine problem. I can't wait to dig into her and get her fixed, but money is tight so now that project is on hold for me. I also have a 1966 530CK 159 gasser too that is a lot rougher condition, but works. Well, she did. She recently developed a rod knock... Damnit!
sorry for the long slow response ive been super busy moving shops... i love old machines so if it was me id repair it and keep it for life.. mine digs like a crackhead with the new engine i put in. ive still got alot of leaking cylinders but slowly ill get em repaired. good luck email me if you need me...
Doood! I have one of those that I have heavily modified. I think I just locked the engine up and wonder if I should rebuild it or junk it. I have a lot of money already tied up in it so I hate to junk it. I am also in TN (Murfreesboro)
This is an old vid but I'm curious as to how the old hoe's running or if you even still have it. Love the old Mercedes too, great old rigs, I just sold my 93 f-350 7.3 IH, it ran so well and I miss it, but I needed room. I might hunt down one of those old 300Ds. I was just looking at a 74 Case 580b today, extendahoe, the guy's asking $1000 for it and I really don't need it, but it's right up the street from me and that's just dirt cheap. Anyway, hope all's well, would love to hear about your 69, thanks a lot.
The oil is "white" colored because it's full of water intermixed with the hydraulic oil. Not good. Gotta get that shit outta there. New fluids and filters for sure! LOL

Any idea where I can find a crank shaft for one of those?
Any idea where to get a good block or 188/207 engine, mine has cracks in between the cylinders, apparently it is common?
