Swap receiver when one of your hearing aids is not working is a very good idea. I did it and I knew immediately that the right receiver was faulty. Thank you very much.
My hearing specialist spoke nothing about cleaning or drying the hearing aid, only spoke about changing the wax-trap. This whole area of cleaning and drying the hearing aid was an eye-opener.
Thanks for this guide. It was really useful. One dome, less than a week old, was blocked with wax, only two weeks after I had had my ears microsuctioned so I wasn't expecting problems there. The right hearing aid stopped suddenly. Although the app showed the batteries as 100% I swapped them, just in case. The problem persisted. After watching your video, I took the tube and dome off and turned on the hearing aid with the socket for the tube in my ear and could hear the startup melody clearly so that identified where the fault was. The wax wasn't visible but cleaning through with the plastic tube and reattaching restored it to full function immediately. I gave all the openings in the dome a good clean for good measure. Thanks again.
One of my rechargeable (Phonak) aides played dead one day. It had gone into ‘shipping mode’ and would not charge or function. The answer was to hold it’s switch in the ‘off’ position for 15 seconds then stick it back in the charger - came straight back to life with it’s original charge showing on the smartphone app
I enjoyed this video but I cannot possibly pass this on to my elderly mother with hearing aids problem because you are speaking way too fast. Even too fast for me to process. You need to slow it down and it would be a lot more beneficial. That was a crazy fast and furious deluge of info to take in.
Excellent tip on removing the receiver by pulling on the speaker, not by pulling on the wire. Makes sense, but I have never been told that. If one of my aids apparently stops working, the FIRST thing I check is the filter. Sounds like you put that last. That is usually the problem. THANKS!
@@Joe70Server My Phonak C Shells have a small wire that is specifically made for me to pull on. I'm not touching the main wire at all as its part of the actual mold.
Hey Cliff, I became deaf from Mineres disease. I now have a cochlear implant. I think the biggest struggle I have in my life is that no one wants to take a chance on me because I'm deaf. I've applied and applied to many jobs, and I feel like it's because I'm deaf they don't want to take a chance at hiring me. I have decided to go to school for audiology. I want to help people who struggle with the same things I did. Do you think you can make a video or a series on advice for future audiologist. Thanks!
I admire you for wanting to become a audiologist I've met a few that were smh no help others that are changing my life. As far as a job that imo discrimination we don't deserve it but we have to even when i no i can do the job sometimes better than others it's just another obstacle we have to get over sadly. Be well and take care.
One of my past audiologists, the best one I've ever had, is deaf. She couldn't travel back and forth from Hamilton to Toronto anymore. I wish I had her as my audiologist once again. She caught what others didn't. She fought to make sure that I had the proper hearing aids. When I got my hearing aids, we walked through the mall and then she did some further tweaking with the programming.
My current failing 2 year old pair of rechargeable hearing aids were good the first year. The second year has been nothing but problems. Never again will I get a recharable hearing aids. I was denied a new pair so I'll be going a year without. The rogers mic actually worsens the sound of the static and crackling. They have problems with pairing and while paired the sound will stop though it is actively paired. They give me headaches as well. My last pair did not give me headaches. The charging station is fine but the fastest the batteries have died was in three hours. Mine are Phonak, BTE.
Hearing aids in my opinion are made to fail. As long as there so much money to be made, consumers will be at the losing end. Enjoyed your video as always.
Maybe it's time for you to find a new and more caring provider. When you found one, please treat his provider with care because your hearing aids and your hearing health will be taken extremely well. They are hard to find, but they are out there.
Phillips hearing aids tend to stop working on one side a lot. Taking off and putting back on the plastic in ear dome often fixes the problem. Sometimes I have to replace the wax filter. They do seem to connect to the phone app even when not working. I think I either have a short in the receiver wire or my ear wax problem is bad.
2 months ago my right HA stopped working. I knew it was turning on, but no sound. Fortunately, I had an extra custom mold with receiver, and IT WORKED. So, I knew either my receiver or receiver wire was bad. Flash forward to last week when I saw my AUD. He simply put in a new wax trap and it worked, WHAT!. I had no idea. Now I am going to change them monthly weather I need to or not. I only have one question Dr. Cliff. Why wasn't this video released 2 months ago???
I have had my receivers go bad a lot as well.. I had mine sent in for repair already in the span of 3 months but I hate the devices so I'll be begging my audiologist even more o change them out or back to lyric

Hey, Doc. I wanted an opinion on a hearing issue I've been having for a couple years. I woke from a nap during August of 2021 and my right ear felt full. After that i noticed sound was muffled. I can still hear most sounds okay, but sounds from my own body and some types of white noise are really hard to hear in that ear: stuff like humming, smacking, etc. Sounds like it could be SSHL, but i haven't been able to get it looked at. Wanted to know what you thought about the situation.
why is my cros px microphone side not turning on or off it was fine this morning- I have held the button for 2 seconds and it will not go green or yellow. The speaker side is working fine
The delicate receiver wire to my right ReSound Lynx custom earmold, with canal lock, broke. Warranty does not cover $495 repair. Decided to buy new Unitron rechargeable, supposedly better music reproduction, new warranty. "Baby" that receiver wire when removing earmolds. Glued-on canal locks are also delicate, glue joint may break if HA is dropped or used to remove earmolds from ears. More robust receiver wires and canal lock mounting would be a selling point as would warranty coverage.
