What about the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah band, for 'original'-sounding, or The Silver Apples? I think the Doors are one of the greatest band and minds - i love 'em, but a lot of what they did, musically-speaking was already covered by the Zombies. They are a power Zombies - plus Morrison. i love both bands but it takes a few minutes to look it up. And remember 'She's not there' was released mid-1964! Sure they came on and they had the genius of Morrison but Britain was ahead, in those days, musically - for the next 20 years too. ua-cam.com/video/it68QbUWVPM/v-deo.html I rest my case.

John Densmore is flat out my fav drummer of all time... he had such an intensity about his playing and he was right in the pocket of the song 'all the time'. He never played anything for no reason... he had a real drama about his playing. And for a guy who never used a pick... Robby Kreiger could really rock it out too... his guitar had a lot of attack for a guy who only used his fingers.

backstage, (helping move local bands' gear outta the way after a Battle Of The Bands as part of Homecoming Festivities) as a young high school student in a small midwestern town in the late 60's, these guys & Densmore brushed by me moving their own equipment in...each responsible for his own stuff, while Jim ah uhm ...relaxed out in the limo close by the rear entrance....I could go on & on about the show that night, but just let me say - the DOORS live- were in their element spread out across the stage even then as much they were on the vinyls yet to come... thanks guys

To watch his thumb and index finger on the side-camera view on Take 2 of Spanish Caravan is really something. The acoustic guitar amplified with overdrive gets all the tonal frequencies and sustain. When we heard the song in the late 60’s on our primitive record players on fresh vinyl without scratches it was mind blowing. We had absolutely no idea Robby took the intro from "Asturias," a classical piece by Spanish composer Isaac Albeniz. Then he pushed the solo through a fuzz box. When we studied the album cover I can still picture that moment, holding WAITING FOR THE SUN. Who are they? What does this mean? Then flipping over the album cover, Morrison leading them, silhouetted against a pink background. Melancholy. Romance. Message. Music. Poetry. Songwriting. Electrify. Jazz drumming. I reached out to bassist Doug Lubahn just before he passed. He played on the first 2 albums only. The conversation here between John and Robby about Spanish Caravan completes the Loop for me. Thank you for reading.

Their rendition of Riders on the Storm was a great display of Robbie Krieger's skill as a guitarist. He manages to get much of Ray Manzarek's bass and electric piano lines in with his own lead guitar, with a fun foray into Ghost Riders In The Sky to boot. Krieger even gets the 'rainfall' notes, one of Manzarek's master strokes for the tune, into the mix. I am amazed that the guy could play at such a high level well into his 60s.

The guy at the ticket booth said all seats were already taken and there was nothing he could do about it. I was super pissed, but a friend called us up and said to come out to a house party in Echo Park later that night. The house band was setting up to perform & the drummer was none other than the SAME guy at the ticket booth earlier that said our seats were taken. Needless to say he freaking bolted outta there once their set was done LOL!!!! I think the spirit of Jim Morrison played a prank on us that night.

Too often by the public and now even Robby and John refer to LA Woman as the "last" album. I always consider An American Prayer the last studio album. Jim's haunting voice brought The Doors together for another classic, which they covered in part here w/ John doing the spoken verse. Talk about strange. The two remaining Doors together after all these yrs. It seems a long, long, time ago that magic & myth were created by The Doors. Although in this simple set, Robby & John revealed the magic is still there. Timeless music!

TangleF50 An American prayer was a pure money making quest after Jim died. I personally think they should’ve released the poetry tapes, unedited, flaws and all and while I do have an appreciation for American prayer, particularly feast of friends, the final product was so incredibly edited that it removes it completely from the original. Which was just Jim’s desire to record his poetry. When it’s taken so far from that it ceases to become a doors album, particularly when an important member of the band was dead and had no further input

It’s so nice to see these two comfortable together and to hear John complimenting Morrison in a genuine way made me happy. John seems to relish reliving the past and he seems to have lost the bitterness of being under Jim’s shadow.
Ray, John and Robbie were hugely under valued in the humongous shadow Jim unintentionally cast

Delinthefelon 3 I read his book about 20 times when I was younger and I distinctly recall him stating that being behind the drum kit meant he didn’t get all the chicks like Jim.
You might want to have a wee reread

John, I don’t think your being a drummer had a thing to do with ability to get girls. Take a look in mirror and listen to your whiney personality. BTW, one reason for feelings of resentment was Jim dated John’s 1st wife before John dated & married her. (Read in an article)

there's a salient moment when John's eyes meet Robby's after suggesting they perform a few in the spirit of their past. it's a dynamic connection that brings past full circle with present yet knowing the outcome would be ever so different with Jim and Ray's absence.

I was hoping that John and Robby would reconcile after Ray passed, so I'm glad to see this. Like that example with The Monkees, it also took the passing of Ronnie James Dio to get Ozzy to come back to Black Sabbath and really focus on that next album.
Now granted that time around Ozzy was simply more focused on his solo career as opposed to having any sort of animosity, but Dio's death made them all realize their own mortality, and if a new Sabbath album with Ozzy was going to happen, it better be soon. Their next focus should be on working things out with Bill Ward, who actually almost died last year from a perforated diverticulitis.

The Doors are one of the best banks in history. Like Beethoven and Mozart they will still be playing the Doors 200 years from now. Whereas many 60s groups are already long forgotten. They were all four good musicians but there was something magical when they got together. Like Jim said four corners of a diamond. None were as good by themselves without the other thee, not even Jim. I think John is the most down to earth common sense of them but they were all out there! Like cosmic music. Robbie seems to be the one who says it like it is though.

Without Robbie and John there would not be the Doors we love so much today! Remember Robbie brought his song he wrote to the band on their first meeting. A little song that every member added to called "Light My Fire!" Check out YT video of Ray telling how the Doors wrote songs!&
