Martha is brilliant and invaluable as ever, from going stealth to calling the Dr out when he needs to be, to the honesty at the end, revealing his home and heart in telling her of Galifrey. Maybe the first time, in detail hes ever done that? Face of Boe. Hand in jar ref. Brill skit lads!
Yeah, I was astonished to learn that Susan referenced Gallifrey's features to be JUST like that in "The Sensorites" back in the first ever season; I thought after "The Five Doctors" that it was just a retcon to make the planet look cooler, but I guess it's just that they finally have the effects to show a proper recreation of it. I guess you could argue that it was just the one zone (the Death Zone, was it?), since every other shot of Gallifrey is, IIRC, indoors (correct me if I'm mistaken...)
@@GentlyUsedFrog It really wasn't a good line. There are a few flaws with it. A: How many people call their parents by their actual names, especially in a time of crisis? B: Surely Bruce would have KNOWN about Clark's family, so the name shouldn't have come as a surprise. C: The ENTIRE premise of Batman V. Superman was that Bruce is operating under the impression of, even if Supes does good NOW, if he chose to cause harm, there'd be almost no one who could stop him. Bruce realizing that Supes had an emotional connection shouldn't have changed any of that, especially not over the course of 1 second.
Whenever I see this episode I wish they would have given us more details about the Macra. I don't think many people who watched this remembered them as they only appeared in one serial during the 60's. But once you know that they have mind controlling powers that can make people believe to be in a holiday camp while dong force labor in a mine..it is a lot clearer why they thought doing 10 miles in 6 years in a car is better than walking the same distance in 3 hours
In fairness, since this is a time travel show they could (if they wanted) bring the Macra back at a much earlier point in the species' history - either before they enslaved humanity or some time after the Doctor and his companions defeated them. The latter could arguably be used to "explain" the Doctor setting them (intentionally or not) onto the course which would see them devolve into non-sapient beasts.
Interestingly, the Macra Terror is one of the 'missing' serials. There are only certain parts of the audio and some photos left of the original footage!
Fun Fact! The Macra first appeared in the 1967 Second Doctor story, The Macra Terror. However, all 4 episodes of the story, are missing from the BBC archives.
16:35 What?? The Doctor is probably the most hardcore traveler you can find ! Also: I can't believe they still don't remember that the Doctor lost his hand in the first Christmas special :P
The face of Boe did have a hand. When he is laying on the floor, the doctor kicks his hand whenever he stands up. You can clearly see it in that scene.
I love u guys and I love watching ur viewings, and i'm always going to watch them. however, the one guy at the end needed to have things explained to him about the 3 people on the motorway. THAT WAS EXPLAINED a lot in the episode. it's more fun for us if u pay attention and comment on the plot as well as joke around, rather than doing too much joking around. u miss things and it doesn't lead to the most well-rounded discussion. that being said, I'm happy that you watched this episode. it's one of my favs. can't wait to see ur review on the rest of the season
I agree completely. I dont think it is the first time Shane has needed obvious things explained to him either. I feel like out of all of them he is the least into this series and just gets bored so starts messing around.
I was watching this episode on BBC iplayer today and I recognised a voice. He's much younger here, but wikipedia confirmed that the man in the top hat at 6:53 is Nicholas Boulton, who voices Male Hawke in Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition.
prolly they had Happy, Anger, bliss and other mood/emotions drugs at time but then later Forget, sleep, honesty and others were created and they just grouped it with the mood drugs instead of making another name for it
It's only watching this now that I realize... Don't cats have spiked penises? Damn, either that woman has a good pain tolerance or is a real masochist to be with that catman.
God damn it, Shane, let him react and stop acting like a child. :P Maybe if you'd paid attention instead of fucking with Calvin, you'd have heard them explain the motorway rules about three people and changing lanes.
Haha, Shane and Calvin are kinda like those two kids that the teacher never allowed to sit next to each other. On their own they're fine, but put them together and the shenanigans are unavoidable.
I get it, the show is goofy at times, but you always seem to miss the point of the deep episodes like this. You just don't pay attention and It just seemed like another joke episode to you guys when it's not supposed to be
I don't see why they should have a problem with it as they watch the Flash and that is one of the most melodramatic and overly emotional shows put on television
Sleep isn't a mood, either, though sleepy might be. And is honesty a mood? Classic Who didn't have CGI, so most external scenes, on Gallifrey or Earth, was a gravel pit somewhere.
One of my favourite episodes of the whole show. I must say i am a little disappointed in your reaction. You didn't pay attention at times and just joked around all the time. It can be a light-hearted, funny or just corny show at times, but it also often shifts to really deep and philosophical within a few minutes and thats where this show is at its best in my opinion. But you don't seem to notice that at all :-(
How about i give honest feedback whenever the fuck i like? I wasn't disrespecful, just expressed how I felt about it so that maybe they can improve upon what they are doing, or just continue the same way. Obviously their call, but honest feedback is never bad for something like this.
I feel like this problem affects Shane the most as he seems to ask the most obvious stuff Like asking about why they need three people when it was said several time during the episode why they need three people.
I personally think inbetweeners would be great as it’s only 3 season with 6 episodes each seasons, that’s only 18 weeks then they can move onto another show, or 20 weeks if they choose to also watch the movies

catxborsuq1 I'm not saying these are better, I just found it odd that you were comparing them to versions appearing in an episode I thought there was no way to see.
Greppellio well, "see" is a bit much to say, but there are a few clips that survived showing the Macra here on yt. And those recreations are quite good, they have subtitles from the scripts describing what is happening.
catxborsuq1 To put it simply, I was aware that The Macra Terror was a lost episode, so when I saw you acting like you had seen it, I assumed you were just being a hipster.
6:22, well that confirms it. The Blind Wave crew are just travelling down the motorway in an office shaped car with really good TV reception.
One of my favorite episodes. Engaging story, classic sci-fi world-building, and Father Dougal McGuire as a lovable cat-pilot. 10/10.
Those cars are far away
@@spartanneo1680 Nah, they’re just small
Russell T Davies got stuck in a traffic jam outside Manchester...and Gridlock was born. Did anyone recognise the Macra?
Steven Cassidy I didn’t know they were from The Classic Series until I listened to the Audiobook Of The Story
JustSomeRandomGuy Online where do you get the audio books of the stories of the missing episodes?, I can't find them 😞
The Macra do not Exist.

Elana If they bring back the Macra i would like them to be more like how they were in the 60's, not just beasts like they are here
The Macra here have regressed from the intelligent form portrayed in the (Classic) Season 4 story, 'The Macra Terror'.
In fairness, since this is a time travel show they could (if they wanted) bring the Macra back at a much earlier point in the species' history - either before they enslaved humanity or some time after the Doctor and his companions defeated them. Shane: "I wonder if he (face of boe) had a body at one time"
Oh if you only knew...the sexiest body ever 🤣
“That women had kittens.”
In hindsight, this is one of the most important episodes in the entire series.
If you didn't notice, one of those kittens says mama.
Sebastian Emond there’s a great behind the scenes video for that scene
Wipeout325 I know! It was great!
Sebastian Emond that it is
I Z when they first show them one of the kittens that is furthest forward says mama

I think season 4 is less consistent.
Series 3 is my second favourite. Only series 4 beats it imo.
Loved how instead of cutting out your failed intro, you sped it way up. I think that's a cool and original touch.

The quote doesn't spoil anything. As long as they don't say who's saying it.
Once they got to season 3 I looked up the episode list, I forgot how many good episodes there are this season.
Has one of the best consecutive runs of episodes. Human nature family of blood blink utopia and then the master 2 part finale.
