  • On the bridge the divers found three bodies during the investigation in december 1994. They were never identified but in this video I discuss who they most likely were.

    Excellent video, I always look out for your English videos, I do try to watch the others too but I can only understand the photographs! Your dedication to talking about the facts of the tragedy is admirable.

    It would have been totally disorientating when the ship capsized. Not only has the ship rotated, any influx of water will move victims - so the door that was to your left 2 metres away is now above you 4 metres away. Add in blind panic and cold water (which will cause the 'gulp reflex' and the inhalation of water) you'll have victims. It's one of the reasons crews for oilrigs train for helicopter ditching (helicopters being top heavy will capsize) as the familiar becomes less so.

    6:20 It seems to me that he don’t know how to count the location. He mentions the blackout which is not true because they have a working VHF. Even if they had a blackout professionals should be able to tell their location without plotters or electronic devices. What do you think?

      You have to take into consideration the list and the fact that they were in a life threatening situation.

    Perhaps speculate on which officers were the body at the chartroom, starboard side bridge wing and the entrance from the open deck, I believe it is likely it was the Captain at the starboard side bridge wing though

    • @Estoniaveckan

      That is impossible to know and also speculate about. We know that there are three bodies and I leave it with that

      @@Estoniaveckan That is true, RIP to them, are you aware of the rank insignia of the captain to fourth officer by any chance? how many stripes each would have, I'm aware the captain has 4, not sure of the rest

      @@Estoniaveckan From research with pictures of the crew 4 stripes is captain, 3 is chief mate, 2 stripes being second mate and 1 stripe representing 3rd and 4th officers.

    An interesting question that we'll never know the answer to is whether Arvo Andresson was even aware of what was happening during the sinking. Either scenario is plausible: that he was there and refusing to allow a distress call, or he was unconscious/dead and the other officers didn't want to make the call without his explicit permission.

    • @Estoniaveckan
      @Estoniaveckan  8 місяців тому +1

      Im not following you. A distress call was made as you heard in the video.

    • @TheThirdFall
      @TheThirdFall 8 місяців тому +1

      @@Estoniaveckan It was, but it was made far too late. At the very least, I'd expect them to make a Pan-Pan call once it was obvious that the ship had problems, rather than waiting another 15-20 minutes. Although really, Mayday would have made more sense as soon as they decided to turn the ship.

      @@TheThirdFallyou underestimate the human factor. Going from normal to kaos/death in minutes is not an easy thing to handle correctly.

    • @Estoniaveckan
      @Estoniaveckan  7 місяців тому +1

      Well, you have to consider the circumstances. The only thing the officers seems to have known was that the ship had a list. Perhaps they turned the ship around because they heard some of the bangs when the visor seperated, but they probably did not know that the ship had lost the visor. However the list was stabilized during some time. During that time it seems that they tried to correct it, assess the situation. Linde got orders to investigate where the water came from. Treu in the ECR got orders to try to pump water into the ballast tanks or overboard.
      When the list increased they sent the distress call, probably they realised that the situation was worse than they first had tought. Thats what probably happend based on testimonies from Linde and Treu. Maybe the officers thought that the ship would stay in that position and the situation could been sorted out.
      You can compare it to the US Airways flight that landed in the Hudson river. They tried to start the engines and sort the situation rather than directly turn around and land.

    • @Estoniaveckan
      @Estoniaveckan  7 місяців тому

      Agree! The first thing you probably do is try to correct the situation.

    I thought the wreck had been covered with a dome or something. Are people still diving to check the conditions of Estonia underwater?

    • @Estoniaveckan
      @Estoniaveckan  8 місяців тому +1

      The wreck is not covered with concrete. The pre work was started in the 1995 but was abandoned in 1996 and canceled in late in 1998 och 1999. Don't remeber exactly right now.
      Right now there is an investigation going on so there has been some divings to the wreck in 2021 and 2022. All the pictures and videos can be found on www.estonia1994.ee

    The construction on this ferry with a very large open deck for cars and trucks is very bad if water gets inside the ship, makes it very unstable.
    I think people couldn’t believe this ferry could sink so fast, so the easy explanation with the bow fell of is to simple, it had to be more complicated like a explosion….
    The bow fell of that’s it!
    When a aircraft crashed because metal fatigue nobody questioned that, but on Estonia that couldn’t happen for some reason.
    This is what I think until proven wrong!

      No, you are wrong. The ramp was completely opened during some time during the accident. The damages to the under side of the ramp proves that. The hydraulic actuators are also broken as are the pockets on the ramp where the locking pins goes in.

    In one of the videos of the bridge the diver pulled a badly decomposed torso out of a window by it’s hair
    There is also another video of the divers searching the cabins, right at the end of the video when the diver returns to the galley outside the cabin, you can see a decomposed foot, you can see the person was wearing blue jeans/trousers and no socks.

    • @Estoniaveckan
      @Estoniaveckan  3 місяці тому

      There was no body pulled out by the diver, it was some kind of insulation. However it seems to have been a part of a body in the corridor as you said
