      I think that part of the problem rests in how the bodies which investigated and then tried Trump in our impeachment process have been shown to be politically skewed so that actual justice is not possible. Because it is not a legal proceeding, but, rather a political proceeding the standards of law were not applied. The Republican Party was able to simply refuse to consider evidence, documents and witness testimony they didn't like. In a jury in an actual trial such jurors would have been excused from participation.

      Treason? Trump has committed actual treason so many times we've stopped counting. Inciting a crowd to riot and take over Congress, with the deliberate reason being to stop the constitutionally mandated vote, is ABSOLUTELY treasonous. The funny part is that none of those idiots, after he said, "I'll be there with you" realized that he immediately got into a bullet-proof car with his protection unit and went back to the comfort of the Whitehouse- while his goons went looking for Pence with a noose. Don't talk to me about Milley and treason. Milley was courageous and acting for the country. Trump, as always, was chickenshit and acting for himself.

I keep replaying the very empassioned speech that Attorney General Garland gave during his confirmation hearings about all this country has meant to his family and I think....what a complete load of crap! He is guaranteeing that things will never improve, that next time there will be better plans and less mistakes. The simple facts are that both sides LOVE what happened. It keeps people from focusing on the erosion of freedom, the creation of a police state and the loss of any power in the process...they've turned us into unnecessary hassle that keeps them from having to own the failings or fix things.

    • @franklin9400
      @franklin9400 2 роки тому +11

      The problem is the system is set up to protect its own. This happens on both sides not just one. It's the reason they also don't go after each other literally, just in words to feed a culture war. To go after the other side, opens your side as well. We all know both sides are corrupt and have loads of shady dealings with different power interest. They won't gain anything, by having all their dirty secrets aired. You won't get change from voting for "The establishment of either side", and if you vote someone new in they find out how it works real quick and fall in line. Becoming "The establishment".

      As sad as it is, I think you’re confusing politics and crime. Obviously crime has a very high standard on purpose, and since Trump was not present you would have to prove intent. But the larger consideration is the optics and ethics of locking up ones political rival. That shouldn’t happen in a democracy. It would appear as a subversion of democracy. Yes, irony. I know that with parliamentary systems, anything that is said on the floor of the house is shielded from legal action it is deemed a greater risk to censor the representatives of the people. That’s why to truly defeat him, it has to be through a popular rejection. I believe the courts have established the correct space for resolving political conflict is in the political sphere. Our presidential election system is so strange! I voted in 2016, on the ballot, for Gary Johnson. But, since the entire state's votes (usually) go to the majority (plurality) winner, then your real vote goes to whomever your Electors vote for. So I guess my vote in Washington state actually counted for Hillary Clinton - oh, and Colin Powell and Faith Spotted Eagle!
      But then again, I was living outside of the US in 2010, so I was not counted in the census (which determines number of Congressional seats, and hence, number of presidential Electors and relative influence of the state's vote). So maybe my vote for Gary Johnson/Hillary Clinton/Colin Powell/Faith Spotted Eagle didn't really have any weight after all.

    As political commentator and former Republican presidential advisor Mark McKinnon so aptly put it recently, "The Republican party is at dysfunction junction." May disagree with conservative ideology and with their stances on many issues, but do value and respect LOYAL opposition--a duty that the GOP has for too long forgotten and abdicated, putting personal and party interests before country. That is not only harmful to their party, it is harmful to our democracy and institutions. And it has come to represent a clear a present danger to our nation, a serious threat to our very security.
    All of this is mentioned because it is firmly believed that this is not a time for diplomatic, soft-spoken words. This is not a time to be timid or Pollyannaish about our current political landscape, but a time for frankness, a time for acknowledgment of defects, a time for courageously confronting stark unpleasant realities. Our democracy is a fragile construct, only as sturdy, vibrant, and enduring as we maintain it, requiring constant vigilance and due diligence. Just as we don't forget Pearl Harbor, or 9/11, even more so the attack against our nation's Capitol on January 6, 2021 by fascist Reich-wing domestic terrorists incited to insurrection by a deranged President against his own government must never be forgotten or forgiven.
    Thus, we MUST condemn both cowardly, corrupt Republican so-called "leaders" defying truth, justice, duty, democracy, and Constitution--and their dysfunctional political party that behaves as a cult--in the strongest possible terms, using the most muscular language that can be mustered. For it is necessary; the very fate of our nation depends upon it. Disaster was narrowly averted with the defeat of Trump, with Democratic control of the House and Senate, but the battle for the soul of this nation is far from over, and we must never again allow ourselves to become complacent. And so it is vitally imperative that we remind each other of this, that we impress these things upon our children and fellow citizens of this nation.
    "Call this civic barbarism. Instead of promoting the values of responsible citizenship, Trump, Republican leadership, and their media enablers have elevated and blessed the very worst among us. They are making many Americans less suited for self-government and more dangerous to their neighbors. And they are doing so for the reason some of the Founders most feared: To lead the mob against true democracy."
    ~ Michael Gerson, from _'Trumpism is American Fascism'_

      "why did he have lawyers in there telling him things that just disappeared when you investigate"... Sounds familiar, "russia collusion" was a massive fraud concocted by the DNC/Clinton, legitimized by the FBI/CIA and the FISA courts - all in an attempt to unseat a lawfully elected president. Tell me more about 'was going in the wrong direction' - we're back to a massive crisis at the border, bombing civilians and killing kids with drones, destabilizing the middle east, segregating the country by 'vaccination' status, demonizing whites (civil unrest) - on and on. The swamp is back in control and your fraudulent ass is going to spout "my country was going in the wrong direction"?!? You're disgraceful...
