I don't understand the lack of personal space. When my daughter was younger, people (usually men) would stand very close to her in lines. I would have to insert myself in between her and the person behind her all the time. When she was a teenager I taught her to step back on the person's foot "accidentally". She had long hair too so I taught her to whip her hair around and then say "I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were so close to me" with a nice smile. Just give people their space. It's not hard.

Another jerky thing is people who pull into a campsite late at night and then make lots of noise while they are hollering directions to each other and setting up camp. I get that maybe they had some kind of trouble that caused them to arrive late, but they could at least have the courtesy to try to be quiet, especially if they pull in close to other campers, who have their lights out and are obviously in bed.

My pet peeve is with what I assume are jerky LOCALS. They come in to a dispersed campsite with their rv/trailer set it up on let’s say a Monday and don’t come back until Friday evening and spend the weekend in what they call their rightful campsite that has been occupied by their family for generations and then leave the occupied site for the week. This goes on all summer. In the meantime I’m trying to find a site to camp and all the dispersed sites are “occupied” in this manner. So frustrating and if you talk to the local land management agency, they just nod their head to placate you and do nothing. Grrr….!!!

These people should just leave a key so others can enjoy a free spot.
I was at a spot for 14 days and the next campsite wasn't occupied the whole time. It was a trailer with 2 chairs outside and a rug.

TOTALLY agree. I've only been full time on the road since February 26th and I have seen ALL the things you mentioned in spades! The camp previous to this one was in Mesa Verde. As I walked my dog every day, I saw "poop" covered with some sticks, covered with toilet paper, as well as toilet paper, women's personal items, bottles, cans, junk of every possible kind throughout the campground AND YOU'RE RIGHT...why would they allow people in these various forests and campgrounds if we aren't responsible enough to take care of the spaces???? Well, the answer is, they won't and now with many of the Florida campgrounds closed, the west will probably be inundated with those campers as well. Let's ALL not be JERKS and follow the advice Carolyn just provided us!!! Thanks Carolyn, I, for one, will not be a JERK! 😇

I'll feel safer to NOT have anyone close by. Especially if I was there first, and if I wasn't there first, I wouldn't stay as you stated. Another thing is loud music. I love my music....MY MUSIC. Even if they're camped where I can't see them, I can sometimes still hear them and that's just rude. I've camped all of my life and had a special secluded place where we had privacy and the only noise was us. It was so beautiful, right on the river with clear water and a gorgeous cliff on the other side. The entire area got washed away one year in a flood. I still miss it! We went several times a year and when we weren't there, we were talking about being there. We dug a deep hole and had this make-shift 3-part seat that we could do our business in and then we would haul buckets of sand and rock to cover the business hole. We were pretty proud of that seat!

  • @Fred-Ash
    @Fred-Ash 2 роки тому +5

That's hilarious because it needs to be said as well as disgusting!
    It's so true, folks.
And it not exclusively happens in the woods.
I saw a truckdriver parked in a dock door at a large warehouse, in broad daylight, take a dump under his trailer while it was being unloaded.
There was a porta potty 20 yards away.
    But there's one worse.
Some trucker teams would drill a large hole in the sleeper floor to the outside and relieve themselves down it.
Naturally their "stuff" would be blown everywhere.
Another reason not to tailgate trucks.
Then they would pull over a pit to have engine oil changed and get refused service.
Or over a pit like the California Highway Patrol has at weigh stations for inspections.
The cops would, by my understanding, take the perpetrators to jail and impound the truck until a haz-mat team could decontaminate the vehicle.
Then send the truckers the massive bill, a bill equal to one as if they spilled a caustic or radioactive substance.
Ha, Ha. Real funny. To go dump in the woods. Nobody will know. Obviously, Carolyn found it while not even looking. Individual DNA can be tracked in a person's stool, destructive deficators.
Not to mention, I'm just a big enough sonofabitch to video them in the act and forward the video to authorities.
Would the big brother government investigate?
    Identify deficators by DNA?
    Yeah, maybe.
And I and many others would help them.
I'd help because I despise lazy people.
People too lazy to line a 5 gallon bucket with a plastic bag and dispose of it properly.
Anyone can bitch about their precious rights being taken away.
But why is it always the same people who complain about infringement of their precious rights the first ones to destroy the rights of others?
    Carolyn is right on!
And if someone wants to prove their bravado by camping in the woods they can't do that by being afraid to be alone with themselves.
I don't park in truck stops because I don't want to listen to someone else's TV all night, I don't want to get my vehicle hit by some half asleep half wit, and I'm only there to.rest not to socialize.
    Great vid, Carolyn.

I can't tell you the number of times I have found Human poop on the surface at dispersed camp sites. You are absolutely correct in listing that as the number "1" most disgusting thing to find in a boondocking site. Here is a short video showing one of the sites I found. When my son and I boondock we take along a post-hole digger and dig a hole about 3 feet deep far out away from camp. That is our Latrine for the stay. When we get ready to leave, we fill in the hole part way with dirt and then add a few large rocks on top of that to prevent someone from digging there again. We also put several large rocks on the surface over the hole to mark the site. Only Human waste goes in the hole. We always pack out all of about other garbage that won't burn in the last campfire.
I once found a site up Golar Gulch on the Mojave Desert where some stupid-ass person left many piles of poop and toilet paper on the ground. You could tell from the "Freshness" that they had left the night before. But that wasn't all. In the fire pit they left 2 dozen eggs, several unopened packages of snacks, and 16 cans of beer. In the fire pit no less! I must admit that I scattered the eggs on a hill side for the critters, and I properly disposed of the beer. But not before I ran it through my Kidneys first. I very much enjoy your videos.

What gets me is seeing those little doggie bags full of dogshit lying right on the trail. The forest doesn't need that plastic! I don't get too uptight about the occasional dog turd in the woods, really don't think it's gonna hasten ecological collapse. But plastic is gross! Oh and once I had a campsite where I had to clean up the previous occupants' garbage, well, it still smelled like food so it won't surpise you to know that night, big widely spaced eyes shone in my flashlight beam when I checked out why the dogs were going apeshit.

I agree with all your jerk list. I'll add dog poop too. It's fine, way out in the woods and off trail, but everywhere I camp in the desert, I see people letting their dogs poo right in the middle of everything. Pick it up people. I'm constantly picking up trash, but I refuse to pick up the toilet paper drops. One campsite I was at I cleaned up transmissiion parts, fenders, car seats, etc. Worst of all is broken glass and nails from burning pallets. I've also had to ask people not to park up my ass. If I can hear them farting at night it's rudely close. But, it's not just out boondocking you see this, today as I walked thru a parking lot, there was a small dog's pile of poo, right in a handicap spot. People have been messy A#%holes since the beginning of time. ☮

As this planet/nature/ our forests, our wildlife/our waterways, etc... decay.... all due to the delusional, ignorant actions of stupid, nasty humans...we’re spending millions and billions of dollars to launch spaceships, drones and other weird technology to space....to check out other planets and the moon. Wtf?
Doesn’t make sense to me. Humans screwed up this planet...not non humans. We’ve got poverty, homelessness, hunger, wildfires, Hurricanes, flooding, tsunamis, tornadoes, hail storms (the actual size of the hail is huge...bigger than golf balls). Can’t afford our medicines or even a one day hospital stay.
Humans are obsessed with greed, the need to feel powerful, status, and they want more and more and more. Yet when the humans spend a day at the beach or at a park...no one picks up behind themselves... it’s disgusting.
I’m old...live alone (kinda like that but can’t do so many things I used to do anymore...I’m almost 75 yrs old)...I’m barely eking by..because I keep rescuing stray critters...and I don’t get why people and spaceships are going out into space. We can’t seem to fix our own planet’s issues...and yet....we’re gonna go destroy more planets?
Makes me super angry. I prefer hanging with my non human pals. Never lonely...and much more content. And..my outside critters (14 tnrd cats, 3 raccoons, 4 opossums, squirrels...and a few bunnies) ... they all seem to get along just fine. The cats just lay around my deck at night and watch the other critters come and go...they’re eating leftover cat kibble ...but raccoons will kind of eat just about anything. My home is tiny. Set up cozy for me and the 2 sickly strays I took in. This is who I am now. I do what I can...but I make sure the critters and cats all get fresh food and fresh water...in clean bowls.
Most humans just annoy the hell out of me. 🤦‍♀️😏. For real. I don’t know how you put up with some of the horrible idiots you must come across..😏🙄. Hugs and love to you and your sweet fur baby. ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍💫💫💫

I agree with all your Jerk List !
I recently had been boondocking in a Crackerbarrel because I’m in a city trying to finish my build and this guy at the Crackerbarrel started being jerk.
Asked for my cell number and I said no twice and got manipulation then anger.
He followed me to another location near park and Rec Center and blocked me in and started harassing me. I asked him to leave me alone and he left. The two nights later the next morning I wake up and find him parked 60 ft away in a Walmart parking lot 8 miles in other direction. Many other Walmarts in between both locations. So I thought maybe this guy was following me. I would watch all around as I drove and take different routes to where I needed to be. Found a new place to park last night and when I woke up he was not there. I don’t understand why people feel the need to interrupt your space. I try to be Friendly but mostly stick to myself in my van. I’ve boondocked in forests recently and most people seemed to mind their own business unless people acted like they wanted to chat.

Late afternoon a couple pulled up in a mini van and backed in right up next to our camper hitch (we had our truck parked by the side of our camper) We were parked in a spot that had only room for one camper. We had to go talk to them and tell them we were leaving at 5 am. and had to hook up the camper to the truck. They were mad about it but did leave. We felt bad asking them to leave but what could we have done? there was plenty of empty camping spots for them to pull into. I think there’s a problem with loose dogs. It’s nice to let your dog be able to be free, but not all dogs like strange dogs running up to their face. This is specially true of little dogs who are frightened of large dogs. So just because your dog is loose doesn’t mean that you don’t have any responsibility for your dog. I’m a dog trainer so I know how dangerous it can be when people are careless about their loose dogs.

    • @birdlady2725
      @birdlady2725 2 роки тому

Little dogs tend to be more of a problem, as owners dont think they need training. They can instigate a fight with a large dog, and sadly get hurt or killed. The big dog gets blamed, even though on a leash and didnt start the fight.
Little dogs need training and leashes too, for their own safety.
All pet owners need to be responsible fir their pets. Sad when they have food and ciggarettes for themselves, yet no food or fresh water for the animals 😑
Breaks my heart. I had to give a great dane water as owner didnt have any *she had gone to relatives for a party, yet didnt think to fill empty jugs with water?!? I didnt have any dog food amd the poor thing's ribs were showing. Give an animal up if you cannot afford to feed it, please.

We have a beautiful rainforest campground with a beach alonside it and pit toilets everywhere on our Canadian Island and still I saw people go use the forest instead of the amenities so close because parts of the forest are closer to the parking lot than the pit toilets. Toilet paper everywhere too. There are wild animals whose home is that forest. People can be so lazy and gross because they don't have to clean it up. There is summer help and they are very good at picking up most garbage. People even throw garbage and cans in the pit toilets when there's bear proof garbage cans everywhere. So lazy even some of them leave their garbage halfway in the garbage can so as not to open it. I pick up plastic off the beach all summer. So glad the people have gone home finally. Its clean and quiet now and the animals are free to roam

My biggest pet peeve is people's lack of respect for wild life safety. For example, we saw parents allowing their children to run to a bull elk during rutting season. It was only when I told the parents that the elk could kill them that they called the children back. This was in the Cascade mountains where the Pacific Crest Trail ends in Canada Another example, was when a friend entered Jasper National Park on the Alberta side of the Rockies at night and set up his site. This is grizzly territory, so he was shocked when the next morning behind a tree on his site someone had left a pail of fish heads and guts. That kind of stupidity can not only endanger other people but also endangers the lives of the animal if they were to attack. Sneaking in firewood from outside the region that could be infected with something (pine beetle) can destroy the other area. Not putting out your fire properly can cause a major forest fire. agree with everything you said. Know the friggin' rules or stay away.

#Jerky - people who give their kids hatchets (or do it themselves - 'Common Sense' is no longer common, it seems.) and let them go assault the trees - like that is what REAL campers and backpackers do. (If you're going to a campsite with a fire ring, bring your own seasoned wood. If you need to collect wood while you're out, there is usually plenty of deadfall.) But, at the very least, letting your kids randomly whack at living trees with a hatchet is just effing stupid. Teach them to care for the forest, not assault it.
