Please watch the Marvel movies in order of release. They make a story that won't make sense if you don't. You can't watch Captain America 1, then 2, and 3. You need to watch this, iron man 1 which you already have, the Hulk, Thor, iron man 2 that you've seen and then Avengers 1. They're all part of the same universe.

If you did notice Peggy was also heading for the grenade but Steve beat her to it. Truthfully she would have made just as great as a super soldier for the program just as kind as steve while being better suited with all of her skills to be a super soldier but she wasn't chosen due to the fact that she is woman. If you don't believe that you should check out the agent Carter TV series. There are two seasons which are really good and it shows what kind of Captain she could have been if she was chosen but keep in mind I'm not sure if the series is Canon to the MCU or not. There is a marvel one shot short film which is called agent Carter which is definitely Canon to the MCU you should check out on your own time.

A different actor plays an older Howard in Iron Man 2 and Avengers Endgame. The glowing blue Cube is called the Tesseract. The scientist who created the Super Soldier liquid was the only one who knew how to make it. However, different people made up their own formula to varying success.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do these in the order they were released, that’s SO important!!! The next one after Captain America was “The Avengers” but you skipped over “The Incredible Hulk” which was after the 1st Ironman (Dr. Bruce Banner experiments with the super soldier serum using Gamma radiation and it goes wrong and he becomes the Hulk), then Ironman 2 (which introduces Natasha Romanoff aka The Black Widow) and then “THOR” (which introduces Hawkeye). Otherwise if you watch Avengers you’ll be SO LOST and asking “Who’s the Russian spy lady?” “Who’s the guy with the bow and arrows?” “Why are Thor and Loki on earth?” etc.

A good movie choice for the 4th! You appear to have skipped over "Thor," though, so you'll want to catch that before you proceed to "The Avengers."
Howard Stark is Tony's father, and in his 20s in this film. He had Tony about 25 years later - in the early 1970s - I think, so Tony is in his early 40s as Iron Man. Don't think about it too much, as they're trying to push it together to make it work. Iron Man in the comics appeared in the 60s, so in the comics it made perfect sense for his father to have lived in the WW2 era.

One thing I cannot unsee now I know is Peggy's reaction to Steve when he comes out of the chamber. That little reach of her hand to briefly touch Steve's peck was not in the script, as by her own admission Hayley Atwell admitted she simply couldn't restrain herself in the moment. :D
Two treats for Dr Who fans in this movie. The older gent who tried to protect the Tesseract from Red Skull was played by David Bradley, who would go on to play both William Hartnell and the First Doctor. Also seen briefly is one Jenna Coleman, aka Clara "The Impossible Girl" Oswald, as one of the two dates Bucky finds for the technology fair. Of course, Bradley was also Argus Filch in the Harry Potter movies.

The rifle caliber weapons they did have often had some pretty low magazine capacities, and when it came to the m1, a clip was 8 rounds, and you could really only PRACTICALLY carry like 10 at most…

The montage of Captain America kicking Hydra's butt was taken directly from classic comic book covers from the 40's, which I though was a nice touch. The guy who directed this also directed The Rocketeer, which is also a period superhero film based on a comic book - a more modern one, though.

Here are some MCU facts you should know going forward. The Super soldier program they put Steve was called weapons Plus which is a precursor to weapon x or the wolverine. Weapons plus was also the name of the serum given to Emil Blonsky aka the abomination who was the villain in the incredible hulk film and in fact the hulk is a failed attempt at the super soldier serum which Bruce did not know that's why he tested it on himself. The new element Tony recreated for his new arc reactor in the iron Man 2 movie was a synthetic version of the tesseract element without the cosmic property. MCU Steve Rogers is different from the comic book version because the MC Rodger must maintain a workout regimen or he will lose his super strength to entropy. Which means Steve gets stronger with every appearance within the MCU. For example Captain America strength in the comic book that is Max was around 2 to 3 tons. With the MCU Captain America first appearance his strength level was at 4 tons.

Love this movie, second favourite Marvel movie closely behind Ironman, Howard Stark is Tony Stark's Father, the scene where he is crashing the plane and talking to Agent Carter always gets to me. Watch The Incredible Hulk and Thor before you watch The Avengers. BTW The Tesseract aka the Blue Cube is explained in The Avengers.

Namor, Prince of Atlantis, was the First "Marvel" Superhero, he was half human, half Atlantean, not a mutant. He was in comic books before Marvel existed (or Superman or Batman). Captain America was one of the late '30's Marvel super heroes until WW2 when hero comic books faded out of popularity to be replaced by romance stories for girls and Western and Horror comic books for boys. DC still put out hero comics, Marvel comics started in the late 50's. Most of the Marvel heroes we know today were created in the 60's by Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and Jack Kirby. Stan Lee was the head writer and editor and got a lot of the credit, but Ditko and Kirby designed the looks and created a lot of the characters on their own or after given a rough description by Lee. Ditko died a short time after Stan Lee, still drawing comics freelance. Jack Kirby getting the shaft in a lawsuit with DC and Marvel, who both claimed they "owned" the characters Kirby and Ditko created because they were on contract with them, spurred the creation of the independently owned comic movement that created characters like Spawn and other comics like The Walking Dead and The Boys.
In real life, the Germans designed a lot of stuff that was stylized in the movie, like the heavy tanks, primitive ICBM's (Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles like the V-1 and V-2 they launched from Germany and France into Britain.) They also designed the Flying Wing aircraft which was the basis for the B-1 and B-2 bombers, and they designed vertical take off aircraft with propellers in a spinning ring like the ones launched from the giant Flying Wing at the end of the movie. They tried to make a nuclear bomb, but couldn't figure it out because most of the best physicists left Germany or were snuck out before they could be forced to help and ended up helping our scientists instead (see Oppenheimer).
Just like in the comic book, Captain America's frozen body was discovered and revived to start the Avengers in the Marvel Comics as well as his own title. When they rebooted Marvel Comics to create the Ultimate Marvels series, they drew Nick Fury as Samuel L. Jackson without asking him. Samuel L. Jackson is a huge comics nerd, he bought one of the comics and was reading it and saw they used his likeness. When he called his agents, before he could say, "Motherfletcher" Marvel contacted him and asked if he wanted to play Nick Fury in the new movies they were about to make. The original Nick Fury was a white guy who received a version of the super soldier formula along with a crack team of soldiers called The Howling Commandos. The Howling Commandos were actually rescued by Captain America and running around with Captain America during the movie. Bucky Barnes was actually Captain America's teenage sidekick (it was a comic book thing, all heroes had some kid as a sidekick. Someone please call Child Protection Services before another Robin gets killed). Dum Dum Dugan was Nick Fury's right hand man, he was the Irish guy with the mustache, bowler hat, and shotgun in the movie. They retconned the comics a bit and said that Samuel L. Jackson's version of Nick Fury was Nick Fury, Jr, one of the few kids Nick Fury had since WW2. The original Nick Fury and the other commandos aren't as strong or fast as Steve Rogers, they were injected with a watered down version of the formula, but they don't age as fast as a regular person, but they age faster than Steve Rogers. Nick Fury, Jr. has a little bit of the super soldier formula, but not full strength.

You both were lost about some things that you'd understand if you watched it in release order. That's the way it needs to be for the best first time viewing experience.
You seemed to have missed The Incredible Hulk (which came right after Iron Man), and Thor (right before Captain America).

Howard Stark was Tony Stark's dad. They had two different actors play Howard Stark in the MCU, Dominic Cooper played the young WW2 version of Howard Stark in this movie and the Sharon Carter TV show and John Slattery played the older version of Howard Stark in other MCU movies and shows. Howard Stark almost completed the ARC reactor, but couldn't quite get there. The flying car technology at the beginning of the movie was actually used a lot by SHIELD in the comics. The original Nick Fury had a Corvette that could fly him around, back and forth from the SHIELD helicarrier HQ (first shown in Avengers?). Lucille, the flying Vette, was featured heavily in the SHIELD TV show.

    Harry stark. 🤣🤣 Howard stark.
The blue cube is the tesseract. You’ll learn more about that in the first avengers movie.
If you plan on doing the full MCU saga, you’ll need to set a schedule for it. The continuation and overlaps in these movies means you need to have the previous movies fresh in your mind going in to the next movie. There was months and years between all these movies being released, but we all (mostly) rewatched the movies over and over in the times in between.

When Marvel started making movies, they didn’t have access to all their characters because they had already been licensed to other studios. So Spider-Man, the X-Men and Fantastic Four movies were made by other companies.
However, Marvel Studios did eventually get those characters back, and does assume that the audience has seen the other films.
Due to this, watching in release order doesn’t quite work either.
I have come up with a way of integrating the other films in what I call “Deck Order,” and would recommend the following order for Phase 1:
    Iron Man
    Captain America
    Spider-Man ( Tobey McGuire version)
    Hulk (2003 version)
    Iron Man 2
    Spiderman2
    X-men Origins: Wolverine
    Incredible Hulk (2008)
    Thor
    Daredevil (Ben Affleck version)
    Spider-Man 3
    Avengers.
This is a more complete and thorough list than is typical, but these are likely ones you will do eventually anyway, so may as well plug them in now.
If you wanted to go even further, there are a few Marvel short films, as well as an Agent Carter Tv series, but you’d have to look up the best order to insert them online, as I haven’t seen all of them.
