- ALLRIGHTY listen up, anyone who has Sony Vegas MOVIE STUDIO cannot do masking as it is only a feature in the pro versions. Now I will not answer any more comments about this. Good day c:
Okay I was working on a project and I was about to mask Alois and then suddenly I got the idea to make a masking tutorial so I did XDD I hope this helps you and if you have any questions then please feel free to ask me in the comments! :33

Good tutorial!
but:
you're clip = you are clip
your clip = your clip
I wanted to thank you for this tutorial, I have done some masking, but it never seemed to be quite right, even today I was working on some, and I just gave up, now I can go back and not feel so frustrated that it won't do what I wanted it to do, thank you!
Thanks so much I was basically searching through the whole editor to find it thanks a lot! ❤️
I saw alois trancy in the thumbnail and squealed cx
This was fantastic! Thanks for the tutorial!
2:27 you have no ideea how much i searched for that part thanks bro
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL!!!! This is the best masking tutorial for amv and such!! TAHNK YOU SO SOOOO MUCH!!!
Thank you so much! I was looking for this for over two hours now!
This was super useful, thanks : 3Takes a lot of time to do, and I've gained so much more respect for people who make those mep's and multicrossovers haha.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I always had a problem with the part where there is still some of the background in the picture/clip but you showed how to fix it! FINALLY! I'm so happy now, thank you once again! *rushes off to edit*
your video was the most helpful, I have seen a lot but yours is the best by far, thx so much
thank you! I was mostly watching these videos to figure out why when I dragged it, it didn't work. but thank you eevee for the video it was very helpful :D
finnaly a video that shows me what i want, well done
I know it can be very annoying but once it's finished it looks awesome :33
You made masking look a ton easier than what it is, lol. Kudos and thank you for the tips! :D
Thankyou so much! I never understood yet... I watched so many tutorials.. But ths is so easy >.
If you look at the side where the anchor tool and stuff is you'll see a tool that looks like and arrow with a little blue thing next to it (it's underneath the zoom tool), click that and it'll either disable snapping or enable it.
Thank you for posting this! Ive been struggling to mask mine.
Thanks this was easy to understand :)
An Alois Trancy edit. Nice choice 😂
Very very good tutorial. I am semi-new to Vegas and this helped.
Thanks for sharing your masking tutorial @ShadowEevee - it's a great help to other users! Are you planning on uploading any other tuts?
What's your favourite Pro feature?
Keep creating!
Thank yo~! it was really helpful since i'm a Beginner in Editing stuff ^ _ ^
That's amazing I never knew Sony vagas can do all that I have to try some time soon
That sounds great! @ShadowEevee - be sure to let us know when you upload your next tutorial!
Keep creating!
*british accent* ALOIS TRANCYY!!!!
Ahhh I have never seen editing as a 'competition' and I don't think anyone else should either. Editing is about having fun, if you aren't having fun doing it then there is no point in doing it.
thanks for this, it helped me a lot ^^
now i just need to get the patience to sit down and do it...xD
Very good tutorial! Thanks for making this :)
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU SAVED MY LIFE.
Well a keyframe is kinda like the start/end of something, like say if you're making an animation, the first keyframe would be the start of the animation and obviously the last would be the end and any other keyframes inside the start and end are parts where it moves (Don't know if that makes sense but it's hard to explain xD;;)
But to place a keyframe all I do is move the draggy thing to where the clip moves and just simply move the picture.
thank you so much. this was really helpful XD
Thanks for uploading this~this will help me very much!
Thank you! Nice and simple. :)
Hmm I think it's because you're not moving the actual anchor but you are moving the line that connects the anchors..if that happens just right click and go to 'hide Tangents' and either do All or All selected.
HOMIES UNITE! And love the video it helped me a lot :D
Good video. Also good to see a fellow homie!!
Is that Sly singing? Well I guess the band is called Stuck in Your Radio, but still, a nice surprise :3
Lol, also, nice video!
aww ur mask helped me alot thank u so much ur awasome
OMG I just spent over an hour trying to mask ONE small clip, but instead of clicking "delete anchor" I clicked "delete path" and POOF! All the anchors are gone...... I don't think I'm gonna do this very often..... It takes immense ammouts of time and patience LOL XD
Sorry this is a really basic question, but how did you add a keyframe on the masking timeline? :0
ShadowWhisper You could either double click on the timeline where you want the key frame or what I do is when you have found where you want the key frame just select the mouse tool which is above the anchor tool and move the image you're masking :3
NeRo SqWiZzLe You need to enable mask mode in bottom panel (that with keyframes). If there's no mask mode, then you probably have Movie Studio, not pro version.
No problem :)
Hey, I like your mask tutorial, I think it explain the mask tool very good, cause u show all the things u can do with it. For beginners the best tutorial!! - sry, for my bad english, i hope u understand what i mean :)
wow! you mask so perfect!!
Thank you very much for this tutorial!
Before I watched it I tried to do masking but whenever I saved it, there were lags.. But thanks to your video I now can make normal masking )))
Definitely subbing you ^___^
ALOUIS!!!!!!!!! OMG I LOVE BLACK BUTLER
Nicely done. Thanks. :)
THANK YOU!!! This really helped me! :)
Very helpful video tutorial, thank you Shadow tech wiz :)
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS!!! I have this strong urge to fall at your feet now...
OMG I LOVE SLYFOXHOUND!
thanks this help for some reason i was masking wrong i knew how to mask the 1st frame but when i mask the next frames i didnt mask correctly
Really great tutorial!! :)
How do you move the masked picture around?
Wow this will help a lot with my amv's!
Thank you Sweetie ~
Now I know how to mask :D
how do you get it so when you move the anchors they move in increments of 1? mine move at increments of like 40 and it is really inconvenient.
turn of snapping, the symbol is a cursor with a blue thing ^-^
Hi! I was wondering if you could tell me how to use a premade mask? There are many on UA-cam but I can't figure out how to work with them. I thought it would be a good stepping stone in learning how to mask.
Or you can do what I just found, after u finish one frame and go to the next (make sure u got the frame before saved) and delete all anchors and begin anew and do that for wach frame. It's what I did, and personally I think its better, cause I won't be screwing up too much trying to resize it.
A keyframe is basically when an effect will start, move and/or end if you need more help on keyframes I suggest looking up some tutorials on it :3
don't worry about it ^^
and by pop up window do you mean the menu at the side that had the different options like Path, position etc or something else??? O.O
I don't know if you take requests or if you have already done that, but can you do the masking thing but with videos? Like how to put two different clips together and make it seem like it's from the same clip
Thank you so much for this tutorial c: It helped me out a lot ~
OMG ALOIS!!
Really well made video, thankyou =)
Thank you so much!! :333
this will help me very much! *w* thanks
sorry one question im completely new to sony vegas and this helped immensely but how do you place a key frame and what is a keyframe?
so masking is basically like cutting out something in a video to put it somewhere else? but animated?
I find it funny that I found this video while trying to make a Black Butler video... XD
Ahhhh! This is really helpful! And you male this right as I'm thinking I may stop making videos for sometime ^^;... (Thanks! ^_^)
lease help!!! I did EVERYTHING in the video and it highlighted the points and everything but it wouldn't mask! nothing happened just points showed up on the pan and crop! pleaeeeeeeeeeeeee someone help!!
it works now!! thank you !! : D
I was always wondering with what kind of magic you achieve this xD
But.. does that mean you have to change the mask with every little movement? D: That a hell lot of time....
When I clicked "Negative" to get rid of what I masked it doesn't go away. An ugly outline just appears on the preview screen and nothing else happens..
Omg I'm really dumb.I forgot I had the same clip on top of the one I masked. I figured it out. Great tutorial.
Thank you for this so so much!! :)
Go to the Pan/Crop tool and check if "Mode" under "Path" is switched to "Positive".
Yes but how do you make the mask so that when it moves like say Kirito is falling he moves slightly to left than some of Kirito is missing in the screen and is replaced by the background black. How do I make it so that only Kirito's image is present and moving within the clip from which I wish to mask him?
I have a question. Whenever I switch tools to move the clip up so I can keep masking, it won't let me reconnect to the path. Is there some kind of setting you use?
That does seem like an awfully long time to take T_T but I don't care, I'm doing this *DETERMINATION!* thank you for this! ^_^
Waw dis is a lot of work in every timeline :O But good tutorial nonetheless :D
The finished mask doesn't show up in the screen and I can't go to the next frame because, the mask does not highlight in yellow. Suggestions?
Yes, bow down to me! >:3c
DO I SEE ALIOS TRANCY??
I love this!!:)
Thank you! I try download this program!
Thanks for this, very helpful. :)
Oh no It's completly safe :3
at the last anchor i cant. there are 2 anchors and need to connect them and i cant i can only add 1 new and cant do a a circle for example at the last anchor block...
When I'm making the anchors, and then zoom out to to move around the frame so I can see it better, once I click an anchor again it's not connected to the others?
Im trying to do a very complicated mask and the 2nd frame of it is very different from the first. So instead of moving all the anchor points I made a new keyframe, then reset the mask and made a new one for that frame. Unfortunately now the mask wont apply to the new frame, the first mask is applying to the entire clip. Is there a way I can make this work, and if so how? moving all the anchors from the first frame to the second simple wont work, or at least will be insanely complicated because the are so different.
I finished the anchors and everything, but the background still shows...? Do you know why this is happening?
Hmmm do have 'snapping' enabled?? that might be why, if not then i'm not sure why sorry :
Thank You ! :)
no, thank youuuu. T~T i just downloaded this today, i'm such a noob.
but now the pop up window won't open...sorry about all the questions, but is there anyway to fix that?
I don't quite understand how you did the second part of the mask (the part where you took the first mask then moved the anchors to fit the second mask) Is it just a sony vegas pro 11 effect or can you do it on sony vegas pro 10 too? Because it doesn't seem to work for me T_T
aaaa so much work but thanks for the vid it really helped
daamm too pro. :( I've had vegas pro for bout a month and still not nearly as good at editing. Question: how did u get so good? watching utube tutorials or from experience/fooling round?!? editing is so frustrating and annoying....
Whenever I finish a mask and render a video everything appears slightly to the left or right, what am I doing wrong?
Hmm did you do what I did at the beginning where I disabled the resampling? If that's not it then i'm not sure, maybe it's the clip you're masking since I have had that happen to me aswell :/
ShadowEevee300 I think that may be the issue tbh, when I made my first lightsaber video I guess the camera I used was the exact same FPS as the project file so i got no lag
Awesome... ~ thank you :D
Any idea how I can disable snapping in the pan and crop and perhaps disable the grid. Also I can't move the anchor points the just bend.
