The reason you lose a lot of hair when you take your locs out is because it's all of the hair you would naturally shed that couldn't fall because they were in locs. It only looks like a lot because you see it all at once instead of a little each day like it does for everybody. You're body is meant to shed around 100 strands per day. It's how our bodies are meant to work.
EXACTLY! Everyone's hair sheds daily. If you have locks, your hair is shedding in your locks so you can't see it!
I just unloc'd my hair too after 2 years. it took me 4 days and my fingers were soggy, pale, and numb by the end. But it was worth having these long healthy curls as a result!
Yess! I felt it all in my fingers and hands 😭 I’m happy you were able to get done quickly
Not true! Shampoo makes natural hair extremely dry for a lot of people. You must use conditioner after. I have had my locks for 19 years all I use is conditioner now. My hair and scalp use to be soooo dry. So I dropped using shampoo and only use Dr. Miracles conditioner. If you use a lot of products on your hair you probably feel the need to shampoo. If you use light products like oils a few days a week or so conditioner is all you need. The natural hair salon I use to go to told me no conditioner on my locks. I listened for years. My hair became drier than it was and thinning. The stylist began linking my dreads. I found a new stylist she informed me of the damage the shampoo alone was doing. Please, Please do what works for you. We all have different textures if if we have the same style! Yes, lots of conditioner to remove locks.
@@terradouglas1262 this is so true… we have to get away from taking a persons advice as the ultimate end all and be all, half the time their advise is based upon their personal experience with their hair or professional opinion based upon “other people’s hair”, other people have nothing to do with you… some tips are extremely valuable and help you maintain hair health as well as length, but not all hair or circumstances are created equal… without knowing a persons personal situation there’s no way you can give credible advice about what the best regimen is for their hair. When you’re on UA-cam read the comments, for every loc “experts” advice or warnings, there’s always one person that says “that actually doesn’t apply to me”… some people’s hair will grow like weeds no matter what they do to it and it will be healthy and dense, others have to be extremely careful as to what they do or their hair will fall out, then there’s those of us that are in between… It’s good to listen to the advice but test things out to see if they work for you, dont just stick to a routine ( and you see your hair is not reacting well) just because “someone else” with a gorgeous healthy crown recommended it… there’s no silver bullet to hair care, especially when it comes to locks… I did the complete opposite of most of the advice I see from experts and my hair is thriving, when I see something happening that I don’t like, and it happens no matter how well you maintain your hair, I switch gears…✌🏾
You’re locs we’re so long! But you can tell you took care of them based on how your hair looks once it was combed out ! ✨
Thank you I tried!
I'm combing mine out after six years! I never thought I'd do it. I love them but ready for something different. Thanks for the video❤
whew 11 years!! they were cute on you!!!
Thank you!
This is an inspiration.
Doing a little research...
Thinking about getting locs for length retention and then combing them out after a few years.
You look fabulous!!!
Thank you!! I definitely recommend locing your hair for length retention & then combing them out after a couple years, your hair will grow sooo much! Good luck on your loc journey 💞
Thinking of doing the same and I plan on using interlock method
I’m currently taking out my microlocs after 4 years. When I installed them my hair could barely reach my eyebrows because I had cut it. Now it’s past my face on some areas and the only reason some are really short is because I didn’t start with conditioner on them. Only oil and water 😬 learned my lesson real quick. But locs taught me 1 main thing about my hair: the less manipulation and minimal product, the more it’ll thrive
Yess a moisturizing rich conditioner is key to removing locs! & very very true the less product you use, the better your results will be.💞
Your hair is so beautiful 😍 I honestly didn’t know taking locs down was a thing lol
Yes another video please! This was nice to watch
I’ve been loose natural for many years (loose relaxed before that) and I just started my starter locs. I’ve been watching loc comb out vids out of curiosity. I cannot believe you girls are combing out your beautiful locs to deal with unruly loose natural hair 😭 but I understand that curiosity is there bc you’ve never had to really deal with your natural hair…..girl….loose natural hair is no joke lol my hair is so much work and it felt like a constant balancing act. I got mechanical damage from detangling. But I had to detangle or my hair would loc up 🤷🏾♀️ I got tired of forcing my hair into forms it didn’t want to be in. We’ll see how the starter locs go for me. Good luck on your loose natural journey!
Thank you for sharing with me & Good luck to you as well💕
Some of us had dealt with our loose hair longer than our locs and want to go back because we miss it. Scalp wasn’t as tender, miss the shrinkage and shorter look. Once your locs get to a certain length , it can get a bit annoying and boring in my opinion. And for me , I never had a dry scalp until I loced my hair and even though I know what to do to help the issue it’s still annoying.
You had me in the living room cuttin up with this music! 😂
Congrats on your loc take down! I just commented on another vloggers video that this is the second time that I have combed out my locks, the first time took me 3 months and this time it's probably going to take me about four and a half because I don't have as much time to dedicate. It is definitely a labor of love and a Netflix and chill activity. My tools are a rat tail comb, conditioner, water and Shea butter.
Good luck! That was the best decision I’ve ever made when it came to my locs❤️
Your hair is sooo beautiful!!
I genuinely found this so educational and interesting
Most people cut them! I’ll wanna save my hair so combing out is a good choice !!! That’s like a new transition in your life 🥰🙌🏽
Yess lol it was hard but I’m happy i did it
your locs were so pretty!!!
Yes, show them your fierceness!! Do you darling🔥🔥👌🏽
Combing them out seem so tedious, but love the new look😍✨
Wow your hair is so beautiful what a queen
Thank you Beautiful 🥰❤️
Wow I love the locs and I’m excited to see how you’ll style your hair now should be a bit easier now that we’ve hacked natural hair care here in youtube 💕💕
Yess ma’am🤞🏽
I'm thinking about getting locs. I'm so tired of dealing with my natural hair but I don't wanna cut it off
I loved mine when i had them. You should go for it 💜
Girl, do it
@@Abmarp i knnoowwww. I'm ready but I'm not ready yet lol
@@angelhamilton8446 do it babe. I do t even know why I cut off my first set. If I didnt they would be down my back. I’m on my second set and two months in. I got tired of the wigs braids and etc I wanted to wear my natural hair but grow it fast by leaving it alone. What better way than locs ? You can do soooooo much with locs !!! Look up yannie the locologist on here . She gives great tips .. oh and loccrush
And my mom over here telling me u can’t take down locks 😐 I really wanna lock my hair in and possibly take it out in the future and you just proved her wrong lmao
wowwwww your hair is so gorgeous 😍
you have really pretty hair girl 💕
Yasss I love your intro new subscriber ❤️✨😌
Can you do a video of how you took care of your locs and the method you used to love it ?
THE LENGTH 😭💗
Thanks sis 🥺💓💓
10+ years and counting. thinking heavily about this! there's so much buildup and I'm ready for a different look. Deff gonna get them back though. Hair always comes back
Your locks was soooooo beautiful!!! 🥰😍
Omg your hair is long and beautiful 🤩
Thank you ❤️❤️
I just took out my Locs after two years and my hair is so thick and beautiful I’m super excited
Look at that hair boo 😘❤️
Awww I've always wanted to have locks but I would always want to have braids and different hairstyles and stuff, btw you look beautiful either way!!
Thank you!❤️ and that’s why i wanted to take them out so i could be more versatile
Omg your hair look so good
Girl , i have my locs for 14 years. And i'm going to comb them out and cutting them next week. When i tell you that i'm scared as hell 😩😩😩😩
I know exactly how you feel! Don’t be scared tho, at the end of the day it’s just hair and your hair will be in much better condition than you think. Trust me💕 lots of water, conditioner, & patience.
How did it go?
@@melzittadavis5096 I had to be very patient. the hairdressers were closed because of corona so I cut my hair with a family member. it took me a total of 18 hours without sleep😩 and a 10 minute break. i was extremely tired afterwards but it was worth it! I miss the locs every now and then, mainly because they were so long. but i have zero regrets. I am very happy with the end result and i can do so much more with my hair now.
Thanks for the video! Also I peep the Towson sticker in the back! I went there for undergrad😊
Wait I played volleyball there too! Lol I’m commenting as I watch. But the length is crazy. Congrats on making the big step
Yess lol i go there now! I didn’t okay volleyball there tho, I attended the camp when I was a junior in HS and got the shirt then. Thank youu💞😊
11 years loc'd, I thought about this but I don't have the patience sis. So I thickened n trimmed it, got too long and cumbersome, no longer fun more of a chore so it had to change. Strange having chin length locs but excited for the next chapter. From micro to thicker locs🤞🏿
Soo cute!! 😍❤️
Wow after 11 years that’s growth keep inspiring
I love this style on you!
Thanks girl 🥰
XO ZOEZO 💓🥰
One thing I learned from the lock process is most people have no idea what they’re talking about… even some “locticians are clueless”… what I did realize is the more product you use overall the harder the take down process will be… if you’ve been on top of cleaning your locks thoroughly, the take down process isn’t “as hard”… detoxing before you take them down is a good way to get a lot of the product buildup out of your hair before the take down… all I did was saturate the locks (one by one) as I took them out, using nothing but castor oil & a fine tooth comb…
100000% agree with this! And i remember saturating one by one was key to combing mine out as well!
Your hair is beautiful! I’m thinking of getting dreads to grow my hair out.
Yess! You definitely should do it if you wanna grow your hair out! ❤️
Wow you got to have patience to take your own dreads off!! My hats off to you
So beautiful!!!
This is exactly how I’m feeling currently so I wanted to come out my locks since last year chickened out give them a little trim but I’m still having that urge just to have something different I am 11 years at this point and it’s become painful for me to do my hair including myself there’s three people with locks my daughters a loose natural my wrist fingers just can’t do it as it did once before and I do everybody’s here I did the same exact thing combed out one lakh thought about it for a year now and I’m just like look at I just want something different so definitely put me at ease to see this because you know I have something like yeah yeah go ahead do it and then I have like my husband loves my hair but it’s hair and we should be able to change it.
I feel like I’m the only one who sees how much my hair is thinning in the front/crown. Dec 30th my 2nd set of locs will be 11. I want to attempt combing them out and possibly starting a new journey next spring
I definitely think you should! You just have to go for it love ❤️
you are so pretty!
Thank you !❤️🥰
Hey, loved this video! Your locs were beautiful. I'm thinking of having locs but not sure what type as there's so many. What type of locs did you have done? :)
Hey! So when I started my locs I started with the 2 strand twists and just kept getting them retwisted from there
@@Xozoezo Thanks hun :)
This gave me hope
🥰🥰
Always thought when iget tired of mines ima just cut it all off, never considered combining it out 🤔
I always knew i was going to comb mine out it was just a matter of when bc i have so much hair. But nothing is wrong with cutting it either!
I’m starting to comb mine out Friday!!! I’m super excited
What did you do about your edges?
How did retain length ??
Liked & subscribed first 10 secs. Lol. I like you already. Lmfao!
Thank you 🥺🥰
Your locs were long my Grammy has locs ✨✨
wonderful reveal
This is dope💕 I'm just going to cut mine though.
To make this easier try using flaxseed gel. Don't let it be too thick, it has to be liquid gel. You will thank me later.
I'm taking mine out as I watch this video. Such an inspiration. It's hard as hell tho.😅
It was but it is sooo worth it lol you got this.!
Hey new sub here I love dreads once they have been kept up and are pretty like yours they are beautiful
Thank you!
11 years!!!!! Damn that’s a long time 😯😂
Rs 🥴
Go off!
Heey guurl!😍🔥💯how long should I leave the conditioner to settle in?
The key is to keep the loc your combing out soaking wet while your combing through it. I DO NOT suggest putting conditioner all over your entire head first because you’ll waste a lot of it. Only condition the loc your working on, i wouldn’t suggest waiting after you put conditioner on the loc bc it will dry up. Soon as you add a lot of conditioner start combing it out right away.
😭😭 im ready to get mines combed out.. 6yrs im tired 😩 I've been ready for 9months now.. Pray for me!
You are in my prayers love! 😩 you got this Sis ❤️
I’m doing a second takedown LMAO I said I would never do it again during my first take down but I think I’ll do this again in about a year 🤣🤣🤣 I can’t see myself staying unlocked for life. Locs are just TOO convenient. I just got tired of having so much hair! After 6 years, I miss my afro!
I definitely agree they are superrr convenient but i missed my hair so much i couldn’t wait any longer 💗
This is exactly how I feel.
i have had my locs for 8 years but they are interlocked do you think I can still comb them out
I’m not sure exactly what the results are for people that combed out their interlocked locs.. I’m sure you still can comb them out tho! I would just watch some UA-cam videos loc takedowns with interlocked locs 💕💕
Did you interlock your hair to tighten it when it was locked?
No , i just retwisted it the regular way
I cut mine after 3 years and I felt the change wasn’t easy. That’s real ❤
I’m coming my locs right now had them for fours years I’m tired so I’m combing them out
The patience you have wow
You haven't had any reason to use a comb through your hair in YEARS ... Do combs even know you? 😅 So you'd be MORE tender headed
Yess very true lol & i sure was 😅
I’ve been wanting to do this for some years now but my locs are so long now 😩.
I'm currently combing out my locs of 3 years! Just wondering how often did you wash the conditioner out as you combed through? Out of 87, 9 are combed out and wondered if I should wash that part. This is no easy task!!!🤦🏾♀️
Hey girl, after I’d finish a section like a couple rows in the back i would undo the twists and wash that section. After I did that, I’d leave the conditioner in my hair to keep it moisturized. When I got to the middle/ top I didn’t really wash it anymore bc I was over it🥴 I just waited till the end at that point. I hope this helps!
@@Xozoezo thank you so much for responding!! I just didn't want it to damage my hair or anything but it's just conditioner I guess! Appreciate it!
I used a leave in conditioner after i washed it out, instead of regular conditioner for the same reasons being that I didn’t wanna damage my hair in the process of combing them out & ofc💕
Love the length 🖤🖤🥰🥰
Thank you❤️❤️
I have about 150 locs and I just wanna take 2 out just to be able to feel it. I miss my afro but also not ready to take all my locs out.😭
That’s how I was at first honestly I didn’t jump right into taking them out I took out one out & I left the one out for like a week and then I went back and combed the rest out
How long did it take you to comb out 1 loc?
At first, it was 30 minutes to an hour… But then by the end, I was taking them out within like 10 or 15 minutes
What type is your hair
4b/4C
My locs will be 3 years in November !! Omg I almost feel like a hypocrite bc I wanted to wait atleast 5 years before I made a decision to comb out… I’m so confused about what I want to do lol. But my loose hair natural
Was so beautiful and I miss the diversity of wearing it curly , silk press and jet black color. My locs are currently honey blonde
I definitely understand!!
My mom took down her locks like twice already.
😍😍❤️❤️
11 years? That’s a long time
I wanted locs but this seems stressful 😂
It would have been easier if she had cut the hair buy comparing to the open locks because it's no use wasting conditioner on the broken hair n it would safe her time too
Wow. Our hair is amazing. What is your hair type ?
4b/4c between the two 👈🏽
Your locks are nice
Thank you!
did you start your locs with the two strand twists or coils?
Two strands.
I really want to unloc my hair after 16 years, but I don't think I have the patience 😩
Patience is definitely key if you decide to comb them out ! You just have to pick a day and start & it’ll get easier as you go!
Started combing mine out 3/19/22...and to this day 8/16/22 I still have 33 left....Smh...between work and 4 children it's taking longer than expected.
Yes it’s definitely a process. Do what you can each day! I would definitely suggest to keep taking your time bc when you start rushing your going to get lazy and you don’t want to start pulling at them and breaking off your hair! I did that for a few locs and wished I hadn’t.
Skincare routine?☹️😍
Most definitely!
I’m 3yrs in about to 4 I think I’m wait for like 6 of 7 more years
You should document your hair journey for others to see!🥰
Oh wow
I’m scared I’m thinking about taking mines down
Don’t be afraid to! I definitely was at first but at the end of the day it’s hair and you can throw on a wig or wear box braids or might love your natural hair ❤️❤️ embrace it beautiful!
I also got locs for length retention best decision ever 😂
i wanna start locs 🥺
You should, i loved mine but i was just ready for something new 😭
I am about to do the same and I am so scared!
You will LOVE it ❤️❤️ Don’t forget to share your results! 🥰
Looks great New here great video let's stay connected. 😊
Just subbed to you!❤️
this is actually long time
I combed mine out & it was the worst, I got so anxious & irritated 🤣 & I only had 52🤦🏽♀️
omg 😮
I had mines for 2 years and some
Months : took mines out took me 3 days
i think i might get dreads
