I once went almost every week to confession for 6 months to overcome my addiction. I wanted to model the parable of persistent widow and annoy god enough that he will show me a way out of my addiction and it worked. I am pretty sure I annoyed the priest too.
I don’t have time to listen to this, but I just recently learned a fabulous secret about frequent Confessions. It also pains me MUCH that this secret WAS KEPT SECRET, causing much unnecessary suffering for Catholics. The secret is…. THE MORE THE SAME HABITUAL SINIS ARE SINCERELY CONFESSED….. If only priests received you in the confessional as Christ does. No scolding. No rebukes. Calm listening and understanding that the person confessing is not there thoughtlessly but has examined their conscience and feels the burden of their sins. I have more than once been put off by priests who mock a straightforward listing of my sins. Really, it was humiliating.
I feel like I'm teaching ccd again. It's not humiliating because of the priest's reaction. It's humiliating because we as Catholics confess to a human being who acts as conduit to Jesus Christ. It's the first sacrament he gave the apostles after the ressurection... the power to forgive sin. If you are looking for sunshine and rainbows in the confessional, I'm sorry. Either find another priest or go to the Latin Mass like I do. Best confession because the FSSP priest interrogates you. They actually pry the sins out of you. PS: Padre Pio was like this, and he had a line of 50 yards to get to him in the confession box. He was not Mr. Nice when it came to sins not confessed, so I have read.
@@raymondciarlegliojr3046there's a difference between "humbling" and "humiliating" that you don't seem to be very aware of. That's very dangerous. Don't ever become a priest.
I feel ya; me too in the past. They're looking for a sense of contrition in you. They want a sense that you do feel sorry. Just like if someone offended you; a confession will do good with remorse and sorrow. It wouldn't go well with anyone if someone confessed an ill doing with no remorse. So the priest just wants you to grow in that area of sorrow and contrition. What I did was incorporate some scripture and catholic teachings in my expression to the priest: * I have offended my God and all His kingdom and I am heartily sorry. *I have failed to keep my temple in order that is pleasing to Our Lady, Our Lord, the Saints and Angels. * I have faltered but I'm eager to do penance and amend my life. *I have failed to be a worthy vessel for the Holy Ghost. Stuff like that will back the priest off ya. But be sincere about it. Learn to be sincere by the stations of the cross and the Novena to Our Lady of Seven Sorrows. It's a battle indeed. Take care brother in Christ.
@ramuelingibraltar802 "I have offended God" and "I have faltered" are too vague for a confessional. Just say the sins you committed! No need to be poetic.
Frequent confession leads to holiness, but so does frequent Communion. Jansenism says not to go to Communion unless you go to confession first. Catholicism says dont go to Communuon if you have unconfessed MORTAL sin on your consciensce.
Wait a minute, isn't it true that we generally confess our venial sins in the penitential rite of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and then receive absolution _for_ those sins upon receiving the Holy Eucharist? I go to confession once each month. And I already know that my venial sins were forgiven that morning when I received the Holy Eucharist. Still, I crave the sacrament of Reconciliation, because it is truly grace from God. And even if I am extraordinarily careful in my life, since the year 2019, when I reconciled with the Holy Mother Church, to avoid mortal sin, I confess my sins as if I _had_ committed a mortal sin. It has to be that way. Especially for sins that are deeply ingrained in our lives because of habituation. They are not mortal sins, but they are unworthy of God. For example, I like to watch "Vampire Diaries". I am fallen, compromised, imperfect, weak and subject to the world, the flesh and the devil. Broken. It is by the grace of God through Jesus Christ hearing me and speaking through the Priest, that my venial sins that I sin over and over again are forgiven if I confess with humble and contrite heart. And again, it is God that makes that call whether I am humble and contrite, not me. And yes, I am familiar with the term "Obstinacy in sin". It probably does rightly also apply to venial sins. Something I must always keep in mind when entering the confessional. Of course, mortal sins are a whole different ballgame. In the case of a mortal sin, you must firmly resolve to the best of your ability--as determined by God--to never, ever commit such a sin again. That is what the sacrament of Reconciliation is truly for. To re-establish your gravely severed relationship with God. With confession of a mortal sin, what could be eternity in hell, now becomes a period of time in purgatory and then joining the company of saints in heaven. Because Purgatory=Heaven. To see God face to face--and _live_ . Confession saves us, through Jesus Christ from the fires of hell when it comes to confessing mortal sins. And in the case of venial sins, grants us the grace to resist the near occasion of sin, keeping in mind what I said about being fallen and weak.
Don’t be scruples. Trust in God: Veinal sins are easily forgiven through many other means, outside of the Eucharist Mortal sins require Grave matter, with full knowledge and deliberate consent to be met together. @@generalyousif3640I'm not being scrupulous and I _do_ trust in Jesus. Venial sins are just that, venial. They act to weaken our relationship with God and make it more likely to commit a mortal sin. That isn't scrupulosity. It's more like Catholic "common sense". At the end of the day, it is, as I stated above, what God sees in your heart. "watching wild shows isn’t sinful in itself, it’s more about what u can handle" I would require that statement to be vetted by the Church. Also, what exactly do you mean by "more about what u can handle"?

There is a brutal mechanism to the sacraments. My mother used to tell me stories of her priests in South Dakota in the 1930s grilling her in the confessional, then, if he saw her around town, asking if she had maintained the focus of her confession. This was the true nature of the Latin Rite. This affect must return, fear is not a bad thing...
Do you people know there is no one confessing their sins to any Roman Catholic priests in all of scripture? In fact, there is no mention of a Catholic “church” in all of scripture.
Catholic confession has its roots in John 21:21-23. Additionally the Church predates the compilation of Scripture by 400 years, and the compilation of the 66-book Bible by over 1500 years. Doctrines therefore don't need Scriptural precedent to be valid.
Nowhere in the Bible does it say to get everything from the Bible. The word Bible isn’t in the Bible. The Bible was compiled by the early Catholic Church, which also has the authority to teach us. Protestants removed books and have bad translations of it. Jesus said he wanted a universal church. He also wants The Church united. He also said to confess your sins to one another. No Protestant sect is united. No Protestant sect has the True Presence of Christ’s Body and Blood. No Protestant church has apostolic succession. No Protestant pastor, who is self appointed, has the authority that He gave to the Apostles. Jesus gave His authority to The Apostles, who have passed it down to the priests and bishops today. The Bible mentions priests, bishops, and deacons as well and how they are to conduct themselves. Jesus told The Apostles that whatever they bind on earth is bound in Heaven, and whatever is loosed on earth is loosed in Heaven. We confess directly to Jesus through the priest and when we have confessed, and are truly contrite, Jesus, through the priest, absolves us of our sins. It is so utterly freeing. Many people have mental health issues because of their sins. When you confess and work to no longer sin, it’s truly freeing. The Catholic Church has the sacraments, which is our armor to fight temptations and stay out of grave sin. Also, the earliest the word Catholic was used was in 106, I think. Catholic, in Greek is Katolico, and means universal. Catholics were the first Christian’s. The Catholic Church is the fullness of the faith. Protestantism is a shallow rendering of what the faith should be. Look at the St. Pius X catechism. What the Church teaches is transparent. The more we read the Bible, the more we see how it aligns with the Catholic Church.
