For those of us unfamiliar with this story… they attacked the monument like savages because it referred to people that lived centuries ago as savages? Does that about cover it?
Yes, you attitude covers exactly why people would want to tear down such a statue. American “Indians“ were called savages by Europeans because it’s easier to murder people you’ve demonized. They had a whole civilization over here before the Europeans came. And if the Europeans didn’t bring plague to the US. Then there would’ve been 10 times as many here to repel the European invasion.
If the descendants of "indigenous peoples" want to establish a monument in Santa Fe that extols their ancestors' blameless way of life and innumerable contributions to the welfare of their fellow Americans, no one is stopping them from doing so. Such a monument, if done honestly and proportionately to those contributions, would necessarily be quite small, so I'm sure the funds and a suitable site could be found easily. But no, they prefer to destroy the monuments of others whose view of the world differs from theirs. Theirs is the path of mob rule and tyranny. We all suffered through that in 2020; let this decision be a sign that we won't stand for any attempt to repeat it in 2024, or ever again.
Mob rule is also the rule that says "might makes right' which is what the state does. The monument was put up by those who outgunned the competition and its restoration is being mandated by those who inherited that power without out a thought of whether the monument has merit other than by being.
The statue has been pulled down. How much is going to be spent putting it back up and how long will it take to repair it. I don’t agree with vandalism but calling the people you were at war with while invading their land savages was asking for it. Should have changed the plaque years ago. Either replace the plaque with something that does not insult a race of Americans and move the old one to be displayed in the town hall with an explantation. Alternatively put a second plaque explaining the era and the insulting terminology on the old plaque. Seems a shame the everyone in Santa Fe will now be punished via their taxes to put up an old statue. Probably better to move to whole thing to a museum and put something better remembering both sides that died in the conflict.
Then why couldn't they have destroyed just the offending plaque? Pretty obviously, it was because the thrill of vandalism was more important to the mob than an effective and specific rebuke to what they claimed to dislike. Or are geometric forms oppressive now; can we expect the systematic destruction of spheres and rhomboids? There weren't a dozen "Native Americans" aka: Indians, in the STATE of New Mexico that fought in the Civil War. OKLAHOMA had nearly one hundred thousand Creek, Chickasaw and Cherokee that fought for the Confederate States of America, on the promise of CITIZENSHIP, which us Injuns didn't get until 1925. New Mexico was the next to the last Territory (in the lower US) to gain statehood, as it was understood it would become part of TEJAS, as Texico (Tee-Hexi-co). Read a history book! The people that tore down the obelisk PROVED they are SAVAGES!!!
Remember these folks lived in caves 1000 years ago. 1000 years after we had perfected concrete. They had more to fear from each other than from us liberators.
I can see both sides of that argument but I think restoring it is a right path. It doesn't mean you agree with everything the monument stands for. But I wonder if that work can be done in 180 days. With the design work, constructing the new obelisk, and erecting it that's a lot to pack into 6 months. I'd rather see it done right than done fast. And you know the city is going to want it done as cheap as possible. Having to do it in a rush would give them a great excuse to cut corners.
The native american tribes in the south were fighting FOR black slavery in the American Civil War. The last Confederate general with an army to hold out in the American Civil War and fight to the bitter end was general Stand Wattie with an all native american army. It may be an uncomfortable fact of history (for the awokened) but it was white Union soldiers that fought and died to put an end to slavery and it was the southern native americans that fought to keep it. Mexico also supported the Confederacy. Native americans with their awokened carrier of the message allies demonizing white Union soldiers who sacrificed their lives to end slavery is shamefully racist. If the people of the Union were not betrayed by Abraham Lincoln and the rich land owners after the war then all Confederates (white and native) should have been expelled and marched to Mexico. Instead the Confederates really won and to this day America suffers for it.
Stealing native children and raising them to be soldiers was a common thing. Impersonating natives was also common so that’s silly. The Mexican government held slavery as a high crime. So the Alamo happened lol. The Confederates got stomped out twice here in New Mexico. The Mescalero were brilliant in this arena. The LIBRARY has BOOKS about this, journals from the soldiers were preserved too. This was the Viceroy of Spain history was here before the US and before that there was even more! There’s a lot of real history in this state, but you’re gonna have to read a book or take a class to understand it

Not that far behind en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallurgy_in_pre-Columbian_America
No wheel either and used dogs or people to move stuff before Europeans brought horses
🎉❤ native to Santa Fe!
A judge can't order this.
Monuments can be taken down. That doesn't mean history is being erased. You can still learn from history without a shitty monument.
Just like the Biden library will be built even though he called 77 MILLION Americans “Garbage”
What did it stand for ???? TO divided, or to unite ????
Perspective... you can ask 1000 people that question and there would be no wrong answer. What your perspective is, and someone elses is are different DO NOT ENFORCE your porspectives on others.
It was a piece of history, 160years old and ruined by idiots
It's a memorial to the men. Their honor and bravery stands above any cause.
Meh. It can be pulled down again.
History ignorant. Ancestors owned slaves and included them in wills while maintaining nuclear families. One of the descendants of the slave family showed up at family historical reunion. Said the records gave her her family history that many don't have. Never sought reparations!
Good!
What a joke
Oh brother
Good. NEVER compromise with these people...
Animals!
From planet of the apes? When he saw the Statue of Liberty
Payback time
Ahhhhh......the tolerant left😅😅😅😅
The Taliban liked to destroy monuments too.
US troops pulled down a statue of Saddam Hussein. Should the US restore it for the sake of preserving Iraqi history?
Are you saying Siri? I should also restore the statues that they just recently pulled down.
@@NuncNuncNuncNuncI was in the military for 20 yrs. And the reason they pulled it down was because they didn’t want the locals hurting themselves. In my opinion we should have never touched it…
@@NuncNuncNuncNuncthe US military helps more people then anyone else on earth… the US military helps you by maintaining all US satellites, maintaining 700 dams, developing vaccines… make sure to say thank you
@@robertberatheon4213 I feel no need to lick anyone's boots for any reason, but glad to see you feel the need to and to bring up a point totally unrelated to the current issue.
Totally proud of family members who served, are serving, and are Academy graduates. They don't go begging for thanks.
Make the democrats that tore it down pay for it.
bs
The reference to indigenous people as "Savages" can also be found in the US Constitution. Lincoln's derogatory term.
so
Have you ever read accounts of how those "indigenous peoples" treated each other? They were brutally cruel at times. So the term fits.
@@sinjin6219why don’t they call the soldiers who killed entire villages of Natives savages then?
@@sinjin6219 You probably believe Saddam gassed "his own people" back in the day, too.

It's like a CIA job when you boss leaves it the time to get the fuck out of town, that's how joined MK Ultra.
Tell us you can't use Google without saying you cannot use Google.
There’s a lot of real history in this state, but you’re gonna have to read a book or take a class to understand it
@@chachavus Everything you wrote here isn't true and denies the real history.
Why are the street fighter people here, I haven't talked to the kids the real ryu and Ken in years, we used to hangout at the only convenience store in Japan that had rental movies.
