Similar to not copying down moms and grandmas recipes. It is a true tragedy when we loose these culinary masterpieces for ever. Now that he has passed would it be possible to resurrect the business? It would make a lot of people happy at a time when 50% of the country could use up lifting.
I must admit, it was a heartwarming story… But he decided to close upon his retirement. Couldn’t one of the actual sandwich makers take over the business?
@ Very soon the most vile thing in history will be President of the USA. I have talked to so many people that are nauseous when they even think about it, including myself. Trump will shit all over the working class.
Sucks that I just discovered this and now won’t be able to go and try. But at least the Coffee Pot, it’s history, food, and people, will be immortalized with the broadcast.

His children didn't take over but the shop is still in business under different owners. They even deliver sandwiches to people that live in other states.
RIP, sir. I appreciate the attention to cleanliness & detail that Mr Rist had, a quality now also largely gone in the US. I'm an old retired man whose greatgrandparents ran a bakery in Cohocton NY in the 1910's. The one surviving wax paper bread wrapper framed in my kitchen says it all about what exceptionalism in American business once was: "MADE CLEAN-BAKED CLEAN-SOLD CLEAN'.
it is amazing that there is enough food to feed everybody lol , nothing beats a good home made sandwich from little mom and pop places our country is losing all that it was made so great for ,. RIP Francis
Never even heard of this place before, but i always feel like its important to acknowledge people when they pass. Even if its as something as simple as making someone's lunch. A simple, honest life well lived. Rest in peace, Skip.
From a time passed when the owner was a character of sorts, and that unique presence was as much of a draw as the quality of the product sold. R.I.P Mr. Skip.
Next to Bangor Savings Bank . They started off there as the "Coffee Pot Cafe" , but soon reverted to the original "Coffee Pot Sandwich Shop" . Modern decor and seating. The traditional fillings are still there , but a wider range of fillings now and priced from 6.25 to 9.95 ( versus 1.90 to 3.20 in 2009 ) . 10% off for military & first responders.
Actually I wouldn’t go there. Try Legacy Sandwich shop on Main St. in Bangor. They actually make a lot of what Skip made. I never knew that this place existed! However it looks like it was an amazing spot that locals couldn’t get enough of for 60 years!
😂 Assuming half the country needs uplifting. 😂
@ Very soon the most vile thing in history will be President of the USA. I have talked to so many people that are nauseous when they even think about it, including myself. Trump will shit all over the working class.
The shop still exists and continues to be popular. It has different owners now
It's a sandwich. It's not that complicated to figure out
Sucks that I just discovered this and now won’t be able to go and try. But at least the Coffee Pot, it’s history, food, and people, will be immortalized with the broadcast.
It's sad places like this is going away. It's a one of a kind place that won't ever be seen again.
The sándwich shop is still in business but now has different owners
I love this story!! And one could open up this idea again!! Greetings from Ireland. Rest well Skip.
Can you keep a secret? They soaked the onions in sugar overnight.
The nice lady summed it up well "love that man" she said. Wow I can tell Skip was the real deal. I'm going to try and make a CoffeePot as a tribute. God Bless to my Down East friends, from Colorado
♡ RIP Kind Sir ♡
I only nase it there once. It was an experience I shall never forget. Heaven just got the best sandwiches ever!
The shop is still open under different owners
Love and respect from
*Nova Scotia, CANADA* ~ Bless you Sir. RIP. 🪦
my step dad is from Bangor when he gets up I have to ask him about that.
Rest in peace king. It's really important to have local legends archived online by news companies.
making sandwiches in heaven for all Gods disciples , R.I.P.
When I travel, THESE are the types of places I seek out. Ask a local where they eat to find places like this.
Those sandwiches are so simple but they still look so good
It’s amazing that they didn’t sell coffee.
The opposite of the Soup Na(z)i.
Coffee pots for all!
I thought of the Soup Nazi too 😂.
My condolences 💐 . Rest In Peace sir, you made a lot of people very happy!! That’s an awesome 👏🏻 Legacy!! 💛
Im in a small town in Pennsylvania and dont know much about main but i now know about this great man. If only he had a son he could have left the bussiness too since it was so sucessful. Its a shame he closed it in '09, great places that where hometown diners are all closing and big corperations are taking over.
His children didn't take over but the shop is still in business under different owners. They even deliver sandwiches to people that live in other states.
I like these stories. Thank you. Very respectful
Rest in peace sir...
It would be fantstic to read about more stories around the country just like this one.
He should have sold the business to his staff.
Respects from Sydney, Australia. What a fine gentleman.
Im sorry the town lost coffee pot and skip.
Skip is similar to the NYC candy store man.
The shop still exists, now it has different owners
@Pamela_Lopezs Skip said he was closing the business. Did he sell instead? Glad you still have your famous sandwich.
Feels like I missed out on something and someone special.. God bless him and his family.
Does anybody know why he called it the coffee pot?
Sad he wasn't willing to find someone with his type of dedication he could have turned it over to in all those years of business. RIP.
The shop still exists and continues to be popular. It has different owners now
From a time passed when the owner was a character of sorts, and that unique presence was as much of a draw as the quality of the product sold.
R.I.P Mr. Skip.
What a special place.😃
My condolences God be with the family ✝️ Rest in peace Skip ✝️All Gods angels are in Heaven ✝️🕊️🇺🇸
Had a place like this in Gainesville FL, louise lunch
...best burgers ive ever had in my life, truly the best burgers.....and one day just gone.
652 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401 is the new location..... Why do you post incomplete stories that can easily be finished by looking at Google maps....
You are right, just looked it up.. thank you. All they had to do was make a phone call😢😢
I worked here for a little bit and Skip used to stop in with snacks from the Friars bakehouse after he closed his shop and just chat for a bit. I remember Skip to be such a wonderful guy.
Yeah they lied by saying he shut it down after he retired. No, he just sold it
What a genuine place. We need more of these. God bless.
RIP Francis Skip Rist 🙏🥪 !
He was a real one, a real hardworking man, and a man who knew what quality and value was. I never knew him and never will, but this is a slice of American history right here 🇺🇸
Wow sad
