*_"Why can't I just use my phone"_*
It's all about being "hip and cool!"
but if you wear it in your wrist, wouldn't it be wrist and cool?
I am so sorry
One word to describe this reply: BAD
nah nah nah
It's about," Hipcool"
to cool for grammer
No, it's about convenience. Sometimes It is easier to just look at your wrist than to take out your phone.
There is still the cost. Simplicity in not all situations doesn't beat me giving up my precious $$$ which I'm quite few on.
It is true that if you didn't pull a Barry and check the time on your phone instead of your watch and other situations came up, it would be kind of neat.
If the watches were so smart wouldn't they tell me if they're worth it?
Mark Collins a smart microwave
Because that's L'Oréal's thing.
Oh a sentient microwave what’s next a sentient toaster?
infinite33 !! Idk, my dad is an oven and mother is a washing machine, not sure about a toaster though
Microwave Do you know toaster from Fallout NV: old world blues?
Can it tell the time?
Dont like your own comment
Dr. plague it's a very bad habit I have. I'm sorry.
It's like reddit
Dr. plague how did u know
Yes, but it can only tell time at 1 minute per second.
You plebeians, I just tape my phone to my wrist
haha right!
Dont forget to cut it in circle form first
Obviously, just make sure you use kiddie scissors to be safe
You plebeian! I swallow my phone to gain its knowledge!
Pascal Wiery And then download more ram because the physical ram it had has been cut.
Smart rings, smart plants, smart oxygen, smart conpanies
Oh wait, there’s no such thing as a smart company
Smart water
smart blood
MrEagle Love the subtle 'Con'
Konstantin Demenko They may indeed be smart, but they just want your money in the end anyway. Might as well pick the most comsumer friendly :D
Sweet Roll holy fuck it’s a joke
This is a good question, Barry. I always wondered if these watches were...worth my time.
404_____ Ha!
404_____ haha
Fuck
you arent linus, you cant make bad puns

Phones: Anything you can do I can do better.
Watch: Anything you can do I can do too.
can you have a 5+ inch display?
watch: no
Besides that and that and that and that and that and that and that and that
Amaar Haque You could have a watch that takes up your whole forearm.... but then it wouldn't be a watch anymore...
Have a great experience playing phones games on a watch
Is Austin Evans worth it?
Is commenting that worth it?
Aiman Dhai Was* and Yes the fuck it was worth it
Just A Goat hi 🐐
Why does Austin Evans exist in 2018?
Hey Austin it's guys
Got a fitness smartwatch for my birthday. It was useful during summer when I went hiking and biking. Minor inconvience was the battery life, not bad in itself but going from a normal watch to a smart one where i didnt need charging was weird. Then university exams came where smartwatches are forbidden.
00:31 THAT BULLET IS A SPY
(dead ringer)
THAT HEAVY IS SPY
*Loud ass sound behind you*
**hears pyros laughing in the background**
Shpee
Some weird dude on the internet it’s not funny
4:07 DEMONITIZED
I have one and think they are completely unnecessary but once you have one you can't look back. I wouldn't recommend spending more than 150-200 usd on one though. I have a Moto 360 gen 1 since 2016 and still runs like a champ. 2 day battery and all. I use it mostly to control audio playback and check notifications (not much interacting with them)
I bought a smart watch because the vibration motor or whatever the term is on my phone is terrible you can't feel it so with the watch I can and it's nice to prioritize things like calls or texts instead of something like a video posted on UA-cam that I can only watch at home
that makes sense
It's really good to wear it on your dong and put it on vibrate mode.
I also got mine for that reason and it's good as long an it isn't very expensive. I got the Dz09 for 13$ of gearbest and it's still working after 2 months
Miguel Martins I spent a bit more on mine I got the pebble 2 hr (about 100 Canadian)
Thats a bit too expensive for me but yeah its an amazing watch
I wear an actual watch, because it tells the time.
Barry u don't wear... condoms? Boi barry is a playa
Boi might be my dad
Boi is my dad
Boi I want this list to keep going
Boi is transgender
*B O I*
Desktops were made so we could use computing technology at home.
Laptops were made so we didnt have to wait to get home to use the family pc.
Tablets were made so we didnt have to find a desk or surface just to use the device.
Smartphones were made so we didnt have to bring a backpack or case where ever we went.
Smartwatches were made because we're too lazy to take our phones out of our pocket.
1 like = 1 prayer that humanity will stop being so lazy
TheRetroKid 101 Being lazy is what makes great inventions
Yeah except tablets were invented after smartphones
The drive to do less drives us to innovate processes
I'm waiting for us to invent smart contacts that you wear 24/7 so I don't have to bring my wrist all they way up to my face
I mean.... weren’t watches on your pocket first then after they had a strap for your wrist? Not lazy just another way to get things done
Exactly. Smart watches that are useful would be full replacements as a minimalist phone, maybe have a Bluetooth headset as well. I believe the home assistants are about the same.
The real question is if we have the tech to make a thiccwatch
Hjalmar Jönsson Rantala Scandinavia
So how thicc should this watch be
Good meme
That's in production for hippos
We've heard enough.
"Condoms" LOL
:D
What is this, the 90s? Condoms don't matter anymore!
Yeah, "Not having children" haha dirty peasants.
-I have a smartphone
-I have a watch
-I dont need a smartwatch
Yes, they look nice, and have some nice features.
The Cracked episode on Smart Watches is pretty funny. Best line from that episode is, "we are trying to sell you the smartwatch because we can't sell you another phone". Hahahahaha!!!!
NO DAVID YOU’RE HUGE!
imaduck2017 What is this, the 90s? That meme doesn't matter anymore!
Lol
The 90s: A True Service
Oh my god not that
4:12 You smiled from ear to ear.
Barry are you the secret fourth Joker?
0:45 My High school, Penn Manor - ALSO called themsevles "Comets" and the logo looks nearly IDENTICAL to what is on your ring! If I had not seen what appears to say "Crate High" I would be seriously wondering if you lived in some part of Lancaster Pennsylvania!
i thought this was an austin evans video
Conciseautumn 20 LMAO
Conciseautumn 20 Hey guys, this is Austin!
This may be the most likes I have ever had (how sad)
I guess a smartwatch is not made for doing something more than your phone, but avoiding you to struggle to check things from your phone, for example when you have a grocery list, when you're in a store you don't want to check your phone every second while your hands are maybe busy, so when you have a note written just on your wrist you are not checking your phone anymore, and so it helps you.
Other example, if you're in car driving and you just receive a call, you can check who's calling by just looking at your wrist without stressing yourself out, looking for your phone, making your driving dangerous.
In your perspective you're saying right.
No new features, just making easier the old ones.
I wear a watch 24/7 have since I was 7 and I love the idea of a smartwatch but i'm far too used to never taking mine off so charging and if the watch is not waterproof any thing to do with my arm getting wet is an issue for me. I think I will wait for more advanced watches... that cost less.
Would never buy one myself but I was given an Apple Watch for Christmas. I normally where a watch so it was an easy transition. I mainly just use it to fuck around at work since I’m not suppose to use my phone. I also use Apple Pay and to ping my phone when I can’t find it. It is mainly useless but is more useful than the 10 Dollar Walmart watch I was wearing and is rather sleek looking. Also it apparently has “clout”
all worth it for the clout
When bicycling, it's pain in the ass to stop and get your phone out to check, if someone called, because you cannot hear it while riding. I think it would be much easier too to make call with it. Although I've not used watch while riding. It may be very uncomfortable to wear while riding.
I'll buy a smartwatch for two reasons: First: I jog a lot and bringing my phone to track my workout is not an easy thing to do specially if it's raining (yes, running when it's raining is actually fun), a smartwatch would be great with them having a variety of water and shock proofing you can choose from; Second: to show it off.. LOL!!!
So for those that don't have the first reason (or something similar), smart watches are just regular watches that are overpriced with a lot shorter lifespan. So unless you have a lot of money to spare, i recommend just using your phone.
I use my phone and a regular watch. I was given a citizen eco-drive that is radio controlled to stay on the atomic clock time. Never need to change the battery, or change the time for daylight savings. Really useful.
I never wear rings, watches, hats, scarves, jewelry, earrings, condoms oh wait forget that last one
Sammu678 you don't wear hats?
no i dont
I have a fitbit, for me That’s all i need in a watch, i keep it on unless I get skin irritations, and I will just take it of for a day or 2. It helps me keep track of my training and my sleep (yes you’re supposed to sleep with it) to charge the watch i do it when i take showers, i can’t have the watch on in the shower (duh) the app they have lets u access all the info and it even has a weight diary and eating/drinking diary
My dad has an apple watch. (how to buy overpriced tech 101). He doesn't really use it that much except to tell time. And like you said, we're all just used to taking the phone out of our pockets anyway. Also, if you're only going to use it to tell time, just buy a regular watch or don't buy one at all. You're never in a situation where someone pulls a gun on you [in your bedroom] and forces you to tell them the time [so you have to call emergency services]. At any rate, I'll hold off on the smart watch. I like having my wrists unadorned. Makes it easier to cut th-- I mean, what?
Dude, these watches are the best thing that happened to me after PC gaming and Discord, I have the Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 and it has a proprietary store that has a pretty good 3rd party web browser and a 1st party calculator which didnt get preloaded for some reason. as a Junior-High kiddo, it's way easier for me to check something on the Internet or calculate something infront of my half-blind teachers, im a good enough student not to abuse it, but I do use it to send SMSs in classes sometimes.
i own a smart watch gear s3 frontier, i got it for christmas and i was not super excited but now it seem i cant go without it i use watches daily even when i did not had the smart watch
i use my smart watch for utility reasons when i get called when i drive my car i can look at my watch and see who calls and pick up hands free, its the simple stuff for me :D
no hate tho
I have an amazfit pace and yes they are worth imo only if they have the following features: at least 3 days battery life, gps, voice assistant, and changeable watch faces, and calling. I love them mainly because they can show time in numbers and analog. I often change the faces.
I really want a smart watch, but There just seem to be a lack of interest in them. The industry just said "Oh, that's cool, what's next?" I like the idea that I don't need to pull out my phone, and type on my pin to switch song, and I wear a watch already.
My ideal smart watch would be the Gear S3 LTE. It doesn't need to connect to a phone, and it looks really cool. Also the ring spins reminding me of Ben 10 which was one of my favorite shows as a kid.
Wasn't that interested in this over other smartwatches until I saw that setting for The Division. Sold!
Just gonna say something about that intro, the steam controller is actually really nice if you have bigger hands like me. I really like it.
I and my friend own a Pebble, now old smart watch. He uses it during school to pass time (his iq is around 145ish so clearly school is child's play for him). I don't have his iq but I use my Pebble around the same amount of time : checking the weather or texting and calling. You make the point that those action s can be done on a phone and better, but unlocking my phone and finding a new text is slower that looking at ones' wrist. Not only is it faster to flick your wrist into your line of sight, it demands less focus - that you could be using to do your hw or classwork. But I do prefer nothing on my fingers and arms when I am not occupied with something.
The apple watch has a GPS and timer without a phone needed to be on you. This is useful to people like me who run (I run Xc and indoor track). Although I don't have one so maybe I'm not the best person to tell you this.
3:06 OMFG AN A7X VIDEO YASSSS
If you’re prone to losing your phone, it can be useful. If you have the right watch, it can make your phone play a sound and will help you find it without needing another phone. That doesn’t really justify the price of these things though.
2:57 I'm wearing an A7X shirt right now lol.
Zemzy Oseris I'm disappointed you're the only person I've seen mention that part
Luis Spencer I just commented on it holy shit I'm freaking out rn
Way more respect for this guy
The only accessories I wear are my hats. That's more a force of habit from my Army days. Been considering getting a ring. Ideally one that doesn't say "hi, i'm filthy rich!" ... because I'm not.
The advantages to me of a smartwatch are:
* checking time.
* checking messages to see if they warrant a reply now.
* making calls without having to pull out my phone.
* controlling music on the move, such as whilst cycling.
You can change its watch faces instead of buying new watches like myself. Also, you can handsfree drive which is neat. Watches with gps are great for workout without my phone and recording my vitals.
I use a smartwatch at work because for some reason if I'm doing stuff on my phone at work, people get upset, but if I do it on MY COOL NEW SMARTWATCH they're interested or just leave me alone.
2:58 oh hell yea hail to the king
It depends on the person. For me, I've had the Moto 360 (2nd gen) for a year. I love the thing. The convenience is very nice. That's the thing. If you don't mind paying a bit more for the convenience, it's great. You don't NEED it, but it's nice.
I pretty much have the same thoughts about it. It's cool, but I really don't want to be connected so the time and getting notifications for stuff that isn't really important. It's should be tailored more towards business environments
Yes I know this is probably a really obvious and stupid question but I have seen a lot of people have different backgrounds on different monitors. I just got a second monitor for Christmas and I don't know how to change a background on just one of the monitors. Thanks to whoever answers this in advance!
0:33, please forget the last one... :'(
Reading notifications from your watch is much faster, easier, and less obvious. What is faster, glancing at my watch or taking out my phone, unlocking it and then opening whatever app it is to read and respond to the text or message. For it being more discreet here is my example, right now I'm trying to stay up to date with the paladins world championship but I can't exactly watch a match in class on my phone. I can however see live update notifications on my watch. Also, something I've found my self doing alot is reading an article on my smartwatch. I can just be sitting in class or somewhere bored out of my mind then I can just open an app on my watch and read some article on Flipboard or cnn or ESPN straight from my gear s2. This is why I wear a smartwatch and this is why I love them, although Android wear is better than Samsung's tizen
Hey man that makes total sense!
BulletBarry thanks are you doing anything with that watch
0:33 Barry you stud!
I personally like the idea, but the only watch that really made me excited for it was the company Pebble. I work out a lot and it's nice to keep my phone in my pocket and just change songs or whatever straight from my wrist. Great opinion and video as always.
It’s about time I watch something like this
oh ha ha!
I am having the same dilemma here. However, I have decided to purchase it again because I like constant reminders, timer, and sleep measurement. I wouldn't spend that much to buy one though.
I think I watched all barry's videos at least 2 times.Barry you are awesome
barry have you had the problem on windows 10 where none of the built-in apps have an internet connection but downloaded apps work.
wait, you didnt see the benefits of having more then 1 monitor before?
I kind of like them. I wear them because I like how they look, and I really like the things that the watch can do independently.
I agree.I mean,I like all tech, and smartwatches are really cool...but I just prefer to use my phone for most things...
you should try the pebble time it works realy well and it is cheep and water proof.
Hey guys this is Austin.
Hey Austin this is guys.
This hey guys austin is
Well, I haven't worn any watch at all before i've got my hands on first Sony Smartwatch. At first, it was amazing. All notifications are there as well as time. But something was off... Texts are unreadable on small screen when i were walking, and time display wasn't bright enough to counter sunlight. Moreover, i have to charge that darn thing every day. So i have to use my phone in any case. I've just got rid of it, buuuut i've got used to convince of vibro notifications and time on demand. Long story short, now i have mi band just for notifications and mechanical self-winding Seiko watch for time and date. As both of these things are waterproof, i never took them off, even when taking shower or sleeping. The End.

After the chaos of meltdown and spectre:
*BulletBarry posts "Raspberry Pi: Is it worth it?"*
haha I don't cling to drama XD life goes on
BulletBarry yeah, but it's true liliputing.com/2018/01/know-whats-not-affected-meltdown-spectre-raspberry-pi.html
1:35 Galaxy Note4 in 2018? *Oh no!* Those things aren't updated anymore! My mom uses a Note8!
Is the S Pen a compensation for the broken D?
yes.... :/
Ya Barry by the way AMD also said they have hack able bugs too also Qualcomm and most other companies like IBM cpus too
I love my tech but I just can’t be bothered with smart watches. I keep active and workout 4 days a week. I have never felt the need to use it. Normal watches look so much better
To everyone missing Android Wear on a Ticwatch, the new Ticwatch S & E are powered by Android Wear.
Thanks for the honest review here, it was helpful. I'm going to stick with my regular watches. I've been wearing regular Fossil watches since 2002. They are stylish and tell the time. I get compliments on my watches all the time. I don't need a watch to be smart; just tell time and look classy/cool. :-)
Is it possible to select what types of notifications go to your watch? For example, if your phone buzzes, but your watch does nothing, you know it isn’t a text, and just a UA-cam comment notification.
Are you hiding something from us? 0:34
You should do a video of you eating tide pods
yes
yes
Whats this thing all about, i have seen alot if tide pods memes lately (dont eat it barry, it can kill you)
lol
you should have said HELL NO
Yo barry, I'm also rocking the note 4 lol. I am a tech reviewer, kinda like u but i do reviews for a newspaper, so i get tech all the time (that i can keep). I have a note 8 and an iPhone 8+ in my home but i never use them. I always go for the note 4, and the note 12.2 tablet that was made before the note 4. Old tech is much more functional than newer tech, weird.
Saalar Ahmad yeah I've started noticing the same! Nice to meet a fellow reviewer!
I want a smartwatch cause it has more features than a regular branded watch like CASIO or Rolex or Tissot
The question is: can you get the binding of isaac on it?
As a high school student, I would totally use a smart watch to cheat on tests if I had one
These is usefull for people who have headsets with amps who don't want to reach into there pocket to pick the song or change the volume
3D printer? The Tevo Tornado? or Tarantula?
Smartwatches could be useful for me when they can be used independently from the phone, for situation like if you're out running and wanna be able to at least listen to music and maybe recieve messages and calls. And other situations where bringing a phone would be slightly impractical
i like my smart watch because my gear s2 even though connected by bluetooth its much more easier to use to look at the weather on my watch then opening up my phone also i like being able to reply to messages quickly from my watch .its actually awesome at tracking my heart rate for alarms its great at tracking fitness. the more i use the watch less the need to keep pulling out my phone which makes for better social situations and i dont want to be that guy that pulls out his phone to tell the time. all in an i liked your take and your opinion and i find my gear s2 just makes my life easier.
I use a smart watch to check the time during classes and stuff when I pull out my phone.
For a guy that have a schedule and a lot of alarms for example an airline pilot or a businessman then I would see a point for smart watches
Other then that you probably won’t want to game with it or use Twitter with it and even if you are into workouts and sports and stuff there are great cheaper options that will do the job :)
smart watches are cool, but they don't do much at the moments, but it might in the future (maybe).
The Fitbit charge HR is good.
I like getting important notifications like texts reliably. I always miss them on my phone
Barry if you don't use the "smart" functions it is indeed just a watch my friend
I got a gear s3 classic for 75 bucks off. I love it, the differemt watch faces are good for any ocasion and the custom os it uses is leagues better than android wear. The softwear works and i find it comfortable. Plus seince i have a galaxy phone it works flawlessly. Plus being able to answer texts and getting notifications without causing a scene is nice. And pipboy watchface
I was using an Asus zenwatch 2 for about a year but I just got a nice automatic watch and haven't looked back (although smart watches are good for checking stuff at school)
5:17 I love that scene haha
I have the Asus Zenwatch 2 and I used to love that thing so much! I'd wear it all the time and use it for a bunch of stuff. "used to" being the operative word there. After the android wear 2.0 update it's been running slower, the battery life is cut in half, and the removed/made it harder to use the features I used the most. I don't see a stability improvement (it was perfectly stable before and after), the interface is both harder to navigate and (imo) uglier. I literally do not see any improvement in any way shape or form. It only makes the watch worse. At this point I think I'm going to get an MVMT watch and just use that.
I’ve gotten a first gen Apple Watch about two years ago for about 300 bucks and still wear it today. I wouldn’t say it’s worth 300 dollars by any means, but it is definitely convenient.
Then again. I really love watches and couldn’t live without one so. I guess whether it works for someone or not is up to whether they actually use watches constantly or not. They aren’t worth their price tag, but as I said. They are convenient.
very nice!
We're going to find some Barrylicious Wonderrod Jrs around soon.
I think a watch in general is important and honestly a smart watch just adds in more features so it’s a win win
