All the gel plates in the video are by Gel Press amzn.to/35oK7Ln (this is an affiliate link but I only link to products that I love and use) They have the most wonderful squish factor! After all, that is the big factor that lets a plate do its magic.

Thanks for sharing these storage pros and cons Carolyn. Even the manufacturers websites have conflicting advice. Gelli Arts actually recommends storing the plate between sheets of copy paper! GelPress says you can store the GP between sheets of paper for up to 2 days as a way to get rid of indentations from air bubbles. Both say not to store them in the Mylar sheets which is what I’ve always done.

I made my own gel plate. Hubs got me some Ferrero rocher chocolates in a heavy plastic container. It's flat and holds 8"x8" size plate. Has a lid that doesn't touch. Have had my plate for a long time. My storage space is small but my plate is good size and I can work with it. Great to transport easily.

Thank you so much for this information. I believe I have heard that the gel plate must be stored in all the ways you describe with the addition of placing it BETWEEN two pieces of paper. Your explanations are clear and always include the WHY! Thanks.

I like the Ranger tins - you can stack them, but I wish I could find one that fits the large 12 X 14 Gelli plate.

I'm one of those people whose been looking for a definitive answer to how to clean and store the gel plate. UGH! Gelli Arts tells you to store it between copy paper! Your video makes a lot more sense. Thank you. I see people using oil to clean the plate. However, some wash it before the application and some after. Is sanitizer considered a wash? How often should you apply oil? Is it necessary for the plate to do it's job well? Do you have any sage advice? I was having fun, but now I feel kinda frustrated. Thank you.

I feel so validated not cleaning them perfectly because of you, and I also store them stacked between the plastic sheets after seeing you do that as well. Thank you!!!

I store mine in its original clamshell with both plastic covers, making sure nothing’s on top. So far so good. I have a set of smaller shaped ones, still with their plastic backings, but I transferred those to an unused colored pencil tin case. I didn’t know that the mineral oil could leach out, thankfully I’ve never stored the plates on paper, but thanks for the info!

  • @danag812
    @danag812 3 роки тому +1

Thanks Carolyn! Yikes! After storing them between the plastic sheets they came in I got air bubble indents which bugged me.😪 So then I did some research and found you can store between 2 sheets of paper and that worked well...but now you say thats no good either because of the leaching oil 😂 SOOOO....what about if, for people like me who want a "perfect plate", one could paint 2 sheets of copy paper with a layer of acrylic paint...then lay that onto the plate. Technically, the acrylic should create a barrier and make the paper non-absorbent but still thin enought to smooth out onto the gel plate. Thoughts? 😁

Great video! Lots of good information and hints. I may have missed it but is it possible to remove a dent in my gell plate? I have the 8x10 size and there’s a dent/crease in it. I store mine in the clam shell, flat on a shelf with nothing on top of it.

Carolyn…can I ask you a quick question? Sometimes when I’m putting paint on the plate, straight from the bottle…you know you might pour it out going back and forth, or however….sometimes how the paint hits the plate, shows up on my print. What causes that? It doesn’t matter if I’m using cheaper craft paint or if it’s the more expensive Golden paint. Metallic or regular. It’s frustrating that the brayer doesn’t “erase” the shape of how the paint landed on the plate. Any pointers? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. ❤️ from 🇨🇦

Thank you Carolyn😊 just a couple of questions, can fabric paint be used on a gell plate? Is gell plate cleaner/conditioner worth buying, or is there an alternative? Lastly, I love your shirt? May I ask where you purchased it. I always enjoy your shares, tips and tricks 😊

You can use any water clean up fabric paints on the gel plate! I don't buy the conditioner but that's me-some love it so I say do what you're comfortable with.

I have what's probably a stupid question,.. what if you saturate the paper with mineral oil, and THEN use it on the gell plate in the clamshell?? (I really hate those air bubbles, LOL)

I guess I messed up. I've had my plate for one day and I stored it with a piece of copy paper on top. Today I took the paper off and it was all full of oil I hope I didn't damage it should I apply mineral oil before using it?

I'm upset. My original gel plate got bubbles on it. I read that I should have stored it between copy paper sheets. I did that, and now the bubbles are gone. But the plate is clouded. So are my other different plates. 😦 I bought a new 8x10 plate and stored it the same way. Thank goodnesss it hasn't been too long, so it has not clouded. Why does the manufacturer say to store it that way when it does harm?

because these gel plats are "oily", would cleaning them with soap/water, or wet wipes slowly deplete that oiliness?

For some reason my large round plate has turned completely white and rough feeling. All my other plates are fine, is this normal? It seems to still hold paint and pull up paint but it's texture feels different now.

I haven't had that happen to me so I can only guess here. Try adding some baby oil onto it and see if that moistens it back up Diana

I have been storing mine on and under paper, wasn't too worried about the oil because I clean the stains from it using baby oil a couple times a month.
I'm only doing it to keep dust off until I can find a storage case to replace the cracked clamshell.
