  • Replacing your watch battery is easy. Super cheap to do and saves you money. It's getting the cover back on the watch that can be a little difficult but I've found a way that makes it easy to put it back on using a simple tool you can get at the dollar store.

I tried every other UA-cam instruction on how to press back a pesky back that refused to pop back in.
Brute force, press with a plank of wood, press down full body weight with handle of spanner, hammer, pliers , bice grip... nothing worked, I had resigned to taking it to a shop untill I searched one last time and found your method. No need for one dollar store as I already had everything.
I lined everything up and turned till I heard that pop... was either going to be cracked watch face 😅, or the back popping in.
No cracked glass, kudos to your instructions, gentle and steadily increasing pressure is the trick, thank you! 🙏

My sister went to a jeweler who charged her $90 American for a battery and replacement. Rip off time at the jewelry store. Her husband has since learned how to replace the battery which saves her a bunch of $$$. There are jewelry stores who will rip off people, and say they are giving them a good deal saying that they won't find the battery any cheaper anywhere else. Hmmm. Try the $ store or Walmart.

The c-clamp idea is genius! It worked perfectly. BTW I reduced the number of moving parts to juggle, by removing the cover on the sticky side of the circular pad. I stuck the coin right to it. Fewer things to adjust in the clamp. I use a hobby/craft magnifier on a stand for the close work. Thanks for all the useful info!

A few problems here. The movement of the watch can be ruined if you touch the new battery with your bare hands, if a static charge hits the movement (ground yourself), or if you short the battery with a conductive (metal) tool. Also, the gasket should be cleaned/lubed (at a minimum) or replaced to maintain water resistance. If the watch will be subjected to submersion, a pressure test will indicate a leak, which could also kill your watch.

Found a replacement battery a tiny 6mm one, code number 377 which is the new number for SR626SW (handy to know if anyone needs one) Au $3 and put it in.. put the back on the watch but it won't click down... I think its still not locked down.. I didn't buy the C clamp etc that you use.. as I only found the battery late Friday night.. I did sandwich it between 2 soft things and stood on it, still didn't click down..

Hi Chris, I'm an above average DIY'r and blame the availability of UA-cam for the laziness of my problem solving abilities. That said, your video regarding replacing the back of a watch with c-clamp & coin (for people reading this, please watch the video because I am not mentioning all BASIC things needed) was ABSOLUTE GENIUS!! Took me more time to pull & replace tools from my tool box to finish the job! Thanks!

Great video. I have a lot of watches that stopped ticking. Excellent method of getting the back plate secured. Cheers
