    I used to be, until I saw this video, totally against the 1235 pattern for so long. didn't even think about the inversions of them!! This is *huge*

    alternative ways I want to share: 1: Fmaj7 F IE C A A IAb7 G# E C(I think A meldoic minor, that's why I write G#) ) C IDbmaj7 Db F -- F>(E7) -E -C -G# A I(Amaj7 G# E C# etc so maj7 & minor maj7 shapes combined 2nd idea much more out(from Hybrid hexatonic scales) but I think it works: Fmaj7: F# B-C F Ab7: Ab Eb -DA(N.B. the tritone dissonant with the dominant is reversed) Dbmaj7 DG Ab Db E7: EB- Bb F 3rd this one I learned from my teacher:4ths & 5ths together Fmaj7: EA- F C Ab7 : G# C# A E(I write this on porpose so the A maj7 is visable) Dbmaj7 C F- DbAb E7: EA- F C I remeber my Teacher always warning for going ou over Cotrane changes, I do understand what he means, I gues certain paterns the ear want to hear because the chords have also systematics! I liked your solo that much that I try to seek it out...

    Maybe an odd question but do you feel that studying jazz hampers your ability to play coherently in a straight ahead blues or rock gig? I find myself being outplayed by guys who only know the pentatonic box. I seem to hide behind weird scales or patterns which I never used to do.

      Try using blues when you're playing jazz

    • @Mikkokosmos
      @Mikkokosmos  4 роки тому

      hmm Not sure I understand the question. Of course we can always be outplayed by better musicians, regardless of genre. I have a colleague who plays flamenco and when I try to jam flamenco with him I look like a fool. And Jazz concepts doesn't help at all obviously. If you wan't to play Rock or Blues you should practice that in my opinion. But some musicians are able to do switch between genres. I don't think for example Robben Fords Jazz playing hurts his Blues playing. On the contrary. Not sure if that helps?
