ANZAC Australia & New Zealand Army Corps. This was the contingent of the army from both Antipodean countries who first landed at Gallipoli in Turkey, part of the Ottoman Empire which was allied with the German Empire in World War I, on 25 April 1915 and departed in December 1915/January 1916.
It was a defeat of the allies (Anzacs & British) by the Turks defending their coast.
It was badly planned by the British and the allied leadership. The Anzacs felt they were not being led by competent British commanders. This made the Australian and New Zealand soldiers more reliant on each other, creating the ANZAC spirit. Less willing to trust the Brits who may have treated ANZACS as more dispensable than English soldiers.
But ANZAC Day is a Remembrance Day for all wars that involved Australians, from the Boer War in South Africa from 1899 to 1902.
It also covers other conflicts including the World War II, Korean conflict, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq-Kuwait, etc.
And the former military veterans from the enemy sides like Germany, Italy, Türkiye, Japan, etc, also March in the ANZAC Day March in remembrance of their fallen military colleagues.
It is not a pro-war remembrance but a pro-peace. RIP. Lest We Forget.

As an Australian from a long line of Australians, the one thing people from other cultures find hard to understand is that we are self deprecating. We like to have fun by insulting but not just others but ourselves as well. We do it so people do not get a big head or become arrogant or think they are better than others. We do not mean it as some universal truth, it is intended as a joke it is intended to break down your defences and barriers and see your true self. We like it when you fire back an insult as well with the same subtle intention of fun. It is a bit tricky as it can be easily misunderstood and people take offence easily. It requires a certain amount of tact and time and place and is a bit of a skill but once learnt it is enjoyable. For example we may make fun of certain characteristics of your race but it is not racism because you can do the same about me being Australian. It is intended to seperate you from your race and to see you as just another person without race. We still respect your culture but not to take it so seriously. We are all the same and we are trying to break down the things that seperate us and just be relaxed and comfortable with each other. It has become a lot harder in the last 10 to 20 years and i think the practise is going to die out as people have become very easily offended and very sensitive and see everything as very personal. People are more aggressive and life is far more dangerous. I tend to insult myself quickly so as others immediately see i am not serious and just taking the piss. It is kinda like just because you come from America or Australia or China or your a doctor or lawyer or a cleaner or unemployed or perhaps your Jewish or Islamic or Christian or whatever, you are no better or worse than anyone else we are all dickheads from time to time and we do not know everything and we are all stupid now and then. So lets acknowledge that and find some common ground.

You are so right people are looking for things to get offended about, my life in Australia would have been a misery if I got upset every time someone called me Pommy (add expletive here) or said "dryer than a Pommy bath towel " "f...king pom wouldn't shout if a shark bit him" etc. Plus there is so much more aggression in people, in Australia you'll get a nickname if you don't it's because you're probably not liked, mine was Pom of course because Aussies aren't very imaginative if you get offended by your nickname that's what you'll be called, when I came to Australia in the 70s there was one big black Fijian bloke his nickname was Caltex or Valvoline because oil is black doubtful you could say that now
      Cheers mate

ANZAC biscuits can either be hard or chewy, it's a personal preference when baking

What I loved about Australia in the mid 60s to the mid 70s was the move away from the 'traditional' British diet of meat and 3 veg, to a more accepting Mediterranean fare. I worked in a factory during these years amongst a workforce of Italians, Greeks and Lebanese. All 3 nationalities invited me into their homes, and introduced me to their individual and fabulous cuisines. I'm glad to say that the 'meat and 3 veg' meals have largely disappeared from the Aussie dining table. Replaced with dishes from all over the world. If nothing else Aussies are well fed with an emphasis on fresh produce, every spice imaginable, and shared across the diaspora of Australian migrants.

You're right Dave, he's picking up heaps and all in a reasonably short time. If he comes over here I know that there would be people all over the country ready to show some Aussie hospitality. BBQ's, Beers, Burnouts, and apart from all that there's gig venues, tourist drives, fishing, whatever the man likes there's bound to be people ready to take him. Like most visitors he could go home with good memories and a bad hangover. Cheers from Melbourne.

We can easily pull off an American accent, especially after a couple of weeks in the USA we can pick it up easy. Look at Margo Robbie, Hugh Jackman , Chris Hemsworth and many other actors. Most Americans think they are American.

Aussies are pretty relaxed and don't take themselves too seriously they love to give someone they like a hard time I'm originally from the UK and found this confusing at first but if you give as good as you get you'll be liked even more, I've been hearing the same Pommy jokes for years now. Australia is extremely multicultural so unless you're Aboriginal you or your ancestors have come from another country so you have no right to be racist but sadly not all Aussies are decent good people

Over all people are laid back and easy going in Aussie.... However First Nations culture is not given a lot of thought or consideration by main stream Aussie culture... There are many issues which still need to be dealt with. 💖💖💖
