He represents the ideals of an ideal society, unfortunately America does not even come close to matching those expectations. I admire Cap because he's not afraid to go against his own government/country if they are wrong.
... ALEX ... I really LOVE how you use your " Old School " influences in your Art .. I can recognize the .. Kirby .. Romita .. Heck .. JR JR .. etc ..etc ..
Captain America in his pursuit form represents the American who sacrifices all the the good and betterment of the world the American boy scout just like superman in his pursuit.
I still think 'Captain America - 1st Avenger' is one of the best Marvel movies. I think it answered, more than most superhero movies, "What is a hero?" Steve Rogers had a hero's heart to begin with.
I agree, I always wished that Cap’s co-creator Joe Simon could have had a cameo in that film along with Stan Lee before he died. He was really impressed with that film and even went out of his way to endorse it in his autobiography.
Love your videos Alex. Espercially the love you have for these iconic characters in their original looks/eras. Love to see you do more on the Bronze Age heroes/stories. And with Nova Richard Rider, the Human Fly, Torpedo, the Micronauts, Godzilla, the Shogun Warriors, Red Ronin, Skrull the Slayer, and Rom Spaceknight. And the era of the New X-Men, the Invaders by Roy Tomas, and short lived titles.
The price of freedom is high, always has been. And it's the price he's willing to pay for. And if he's the only one then so be it... but he's not the only one. There are others out there Cap who are with you till the end of the line.
Hey Alex, I was rewatching Spider-man 2 recently and was struck by the fact that both images of Mary jane are not your art instead stylized, manipulated photography. I was wondering ....why? Did you create pieces and they simply were not approved by Raimi or maybe even Dunst herself? Alos I would love a video about your 90s X-men redesigns .. maybe even your idea of what the story was for them. Thank you sir. You are the G.O.A.T.
Captain America and Optimus Prime: two of the best modern representations of the archetypal Hero. Cap even bears the aegis - the shield - a symbol of protection bestowed by a benevolent being, significantly a mortal here rather than a god. There’s a whole lot more mythos involved, but it’s a long lecture so I’ll leave it there.
SUPERMAN was NEVER meant to be a patriotic hero nor was he ever supposed to be associated with the U.S. -- and was used as such, only for U.S. propaganda purposes, during the 2nd World War and as an agent of America's 2nd RED SCARE in the 1950s (the first happening in the 20s and 30s -- see Palmer Raids). Captain America, as a patriotic hero, is not overtly supposed to represent America, but is in fact supposed to represent the idea of what America could be... He is a beacon for the American state, a tool of war propaganda. Not a direct representation of a nation, but an abstract idea for YOU, the viewer, to attach your own ideas of what "America" is, to him. The same could be said for The Shield and all other patriotic superhero characters.
Captain America should be America on its brightest day. That's something Steve just hasn't been in a long while as he's always needing to get written as depressed or some writer needs to find a new way to take a stab at his legacy
It's crazy these videos don't get millions of views, this displays more talent than 99% of youtubers.
So who are the other 1% that show more talent? I'd love to see them.
Why does the amount of views matter
@@Brickbrickbrickinthewall Because it shows people are seeing and enjoying good art, which is always a good thing for the people and the artist
He is basically what America needs to be
And deserve to be like him...
*Freedom, Justice, Peace, Respect and Truth, that's what Captain America stands for. The Big Ideals.*

Alex Ross was "The" comic book cinematic universe before they were even a thing.
That wraparound cover of #1 is by far one of my favorite covers of all time. The covers on that entire run are beautiful

He’s one of my fav superheroes!
Scale armor with leather'ish cloth mask / cowl. Why couldn't the MCU do that?? Looks cool as heck ^_^

The greatest comic book artist of all time. HANDS DOWN!! This Man needs more recognition.
Cap is the epitome of what a hero is. I love all of Alex's works of him.

The great defender of America! He fights for what's right so this artwork gets two thumbs up!
Love the chain mail classic look.

This almost brought tears to my eyes. Better luck next time.... Amazing art speaks so loud.
Absolutely amazing 👏
I hope your work is remembered for centuries to come

He symbolizes good trumping over evil and democracy trumping over tyranny
That costume of his is awesome!

Captain America is patriotic, his shield suggests he is the great defender.

He's a blend of the classical and modern world. Much like America.
Cause he's a Good Person.....

Silly question. Bc Steve Rogers was already a hero, despite a fragile body.
🤪
Is he???? Prior to the movies he was a B lister at best tbh.
