They should make a big investment in a marketing campaing to capture the overflow of brand new fighting players that will inevitably follow the first months of SF6. "Keep your eyes open and expand yor skills! Try DNF Duel!" "Faster and Deadlier! Try DNF Duel" "Be the first among your friends!" Etc. I'm sure this game can be totally resurrected just by injecting enough money and taking advantage of the current bright state of the fighting market.
idk about totally but injecting money would certainly help and if there is one thing nexon has it is more money than sense. They don't seem to want to for whatever reason, they want to do as little as possible to keep the game alive
I think absence of single player content is what hurts FGs the most. Getting stomped online is not fun and usually game doesn't offer anything else. Where's my tekken volleyball, survival mode, time attacks, MoM and so on? With years there have to be more and more modes, but we're getting fewer and fewer
Honestly, that 1 character is gonna give the game 2 months at best. The gameplay loop doesnt make the playing anymore fun when its just another character to lab/do combos with. She'll either be bad and dnf will bleed out fast, or be amazing and buy the game enough retention time till the next dlc. But one things for sure, its really hard to recomend to people given the numerous better options out there.
I mean... It is dead. It always feels like a cope when FGC people try to use the "technically you only need one person" argument. Regions, timezones etc are a thing, and finding someone at your skill level AND at decent ping in a reasonable amount of time when the game has 20 active players just seems unrealistic. And no I'm not trying to hate on the game, quite the opposite in fact, I am literally hovering over the game on steam and was looking for someone to convince me it was worth picking up.
@@flowchartkenYT They just need to spend money on marketing. Issue so many fighting games have outside of the big 3 is nobody has heard of them. Fantastic games just die on the vine.

People focusing solely on steam charts are using the wrong numbers. There are other indicators that show signs of life within the community, and it baffles me any time someone tries to use steam chart numbers as evidence against that. They are effectively denying the experiences of the entire DNF community over the last year.
I think steam charts are a really good indicator of whether or not you'll be able to find matches. Most people don't want to hop into a discord server for the chance of playing against someone even close to their own skill level. The DNF community may be alive, but that doesn't mean the average person wants that experience.
@@JaxvexI think the point is people want to jump on and queue up for a match. A lot of people don't like needing to talk to randoms to find matches elsewhere regardless of if it's discord or somewhere else
@azumashinobi1559 that's not the fault of the community nor the game for that matter. The people playing dnf today do so out of passion and are willing to find games anywhere. They wouldn't need to rely on things like discord if more people actually gave the game a fair chance.
Tbh, the game was almost dead to me when I found out what they did to Troubleshooter... I know they were taking Dnf duel into a new direction, but still, it breaks my heart. I don't see much TS matches anymore, and when I found out one of my fav players just gave it up, I literally had second thoughts about dnf, until I decided that I should at least commit to being good if Iiked the character enough and... I'm still here, trying my best😅 hoping for better days ahead
I cannot tell you how destroyed I was when all the battlerite royale shit was going down, it was so clear it was going to kill the game. Completely stopping development on your thriving game to chase a shitty trend, and then to actually charge separately for that game was such an insane choice.
I saw that. Worth noting a chunk of this video is dedicated to why I don't think steam charts is the best metric for telling if a game is healthy or not, but I would guess that 500 will be the high for some time. Possibly until the next DLC
If the game has no mod support and can't host your own game, the steam charts is pretty much it's lifeline. Hosting your own game long after the server shutdown is the reason why other games are still alive. Steamcharts is only baseless if the game can be played offline and can host your own game.
@@flowchartkenYT Oh is that confirmed? then we have nothing to worry about then lol Being able to play and host a match is already 50% of the game IMO. Sry for the misunderstanding I gave up digging info after hearing it was a 50/60$ game.
@@MangaGamified no worries, and yeah I have been pretty candid I don't think the game is worth 50/60 and it never should've gotten a switch port before crossplay was built imo. The devs definitely need to slash the price and give people a reason to come back at this point
What they really need to do is reduce the base price to 40 bucks or less, and have it on a month long 50% off sale, 50 bucks with only a couple mediocre sales for a game with such little content is just not gonna do it; knowing Nexon, however, that is not gonna happen.
@@RealKorean I still think charging for them separately was a mistake. If they made it a free mode or if they at least pretended to work on both maybe. But charging more money for people like me who already paid for BR alpha so they could stop making content for BR and chase a trend was borderline insulting
Wouldn't say it's dead but the time it taking for updates and the way the game is presenting it's self with trailers is so tough for it's perception It sucks seeing a game go from loved to made fun of for everything it's doing
Facts. No it's not dead. It's still a unique 2.5D Fighter. Sometimes time is our best Friend. DNF Doesn't really have a bar set. It's just going with the flow. I honestly think they caught wind of all the other (SF6,MK1,Tekken) developments and chose a different path then what was presented at that time. Like you said Nexon aren't scrubs. They are heavyweights. Been eating good 💯
Nexon is way too stubborn to stop shoveling money into the game for at least another year, I believe they will not abandon the game if the cost is a tiny percentage of their gross from DFO
The game is dope. Don't care what some mouth breathers think. I just wish more people played. Rookies, med levels or top players like yourself. I just want games and more games after.
I truly believe that this game needs 4 things to bring it back from the brink of death 1: drop the price to at atleast $19.99 - $24.99 the game lacks not enough content to justify the cost of the game 2: Crossplay. This is an absolute most, crazy to think that cross-play isn't the standard for all games that have Multiplat releases in 2023, moving forward no matter what genre weather its a Fighter, FPS, RTS, Moba, Battle royal doesn't matter it absolutely NEEDS cross-play, it will help keep the game alive 300 players across all platforms is better than being stuck fighting the same 12 players on only one platform. People forget how GG Strive atleast on console was also a dead game before the cross-play with PC release cross-play save GG Strive. 3: A Xbox series X/S port. Seriously confused the hell out of me that the switch got the game before Xbox did with the lack of rollback and the fact that majority of switch owners don't have the oled model means no LAN connection like wtf where they thinking 4: Gamepass. If you include everything I mentioned before this makes sense low cost of entrie, it will bring in a consistent flow a new/ returning players, with cross-play enabled you'll never run out of fresh players willing to give the game a chance, best example I can give is BBtag got a GP/Xbox port back in may and now there's a brand new community of BBtag players the are constantly playing the game daily vs the game pretty much being dead atleast on PlayStation.
For me the game died when I hit legend and every beserker or crusader just infinite because you made one mistake, I loved the game but it’s just annoying sitting there waiting for your turn and not much defensive options
they dont have infinites but yeah you can die in 2 hits. Its something you have to play around and I enjoy it most of the time but its not for everyone

I mean no offense dude (I agree with you) but this topic is just a very bias standpoint from players of their respective fighters. Which makes sense, but still, the very origin of posting steam charts was for fans of a game to flex on other games. The fgc usually says that other games are dead but when it’s their game then it’s doing fine. The definition of death varies from different fandoms. The fgc is just a very competitive community sadly.
Can't fault anyone for not wanting to get into it, I wouldn't recommend buying unless it's on sale and there is new content coming. Just pointing out something isn't necessarily dead because it isn't thriving and fighting games in particular live on a small community for quite a long time
New dlc character with a massive balance patch drops on a rollback netcode game with a road map that stretches 12+ months into the future. Yep, that's the definition of a dead fighting game
Video was a whole nothing burger. Your argument is a technicality. If you can't fijnd matches in normal public queue, its dead. If you need to go outside the game to find matches, its dead. if the game no longer has official servers. its dead. Plain and simple. using your logic some random obscure anime fighting game from 30 years ago isn't "dead" if you and one other person link up to play it. Or O.G. Halo demo isn't "dead" b/c its p2p matching so you just need 2 people. The steam charts is an accurate example since that just shows how many people have LAUNCHED the game. that means there are 24 people in your example that are doing some private duels, playing story etc etc. you ignored the fact that steam charts don't just count multiplayer people. all steam charts does is ping how many people have the game launched at X time. i.e. there are 24 people who have bothered to launch and play the game. Another example would be dark souls. pvp isn't "dead" ijn the sense that there are still weekly tournaments hosted by the community, but it is dead in the sense that a normal player playing the game will never see a pvp invasion randomly like they would at launch, they would need to actively go out of there way to find it.
People in the fgc say a game is dead, because there is no competitive scene. Maybe people play it casually but it isn't considered a option for tournaments. Old heads bases their opinions on locals and tournament numbers
You are pretty wrong on this one my guy. Not getting into evo was a blow for sure but the game is drawing 100+ people for big events which is right on pace with any anime fighters. It's not street fighter or Tekken numbers but it's enough to say the game has a competitive scene
@@flowchartkenYT I'm not talking about Evo bro, I'm talking about the. I go down to my local with the homies and we put up tournaments for the game. We ask people to come out. If they don't show or they don't exist the game is dead and we won't bother with it anymore.
That’s not really a good indicator. You could argue Tekken has a bigger competitive scene than Mortal kombat but that doesn’t mean Tekken is more mainstream. It’s a good point to have a scene but esports don’t reflect general gaming at all.
Dead definitely varies from person to person. IMO a lot of mechnaics in other fighters have ruined fighters like this one. People are mad at big buttons and TOD's yet play DBFZ 😂. However the game definately needed just a little more in the defense category. Just a little, not burst (GGS), or Air tech, just something for the guard bar (which they are finally bringing). So i think DNF will be in a good place after, and then it'll slowly build back up in the scene (hopefully).
I feel like people bought into the mistake of buying this game not realizing what it actually. A basically 2 touch game with a lot block and no jumping. when everyone i guess thought it was something else. So idk the gameplsy doesnt seem to resonate people. Thats why nobody wants to play?
I do think some people take issue with the gameplay and I think your are correct, the anime visuals are definitely more reminiscint of an airdasher than something where you can't even block in the air. I'm sure that's why some people stopped playing, but I think a larger issue is the clown show the game became on social media and the complete void of developer communication or updates to balance that out
@@flowchartkenYT this isnt like dnfd exclusive problem though. Im sure a lot people bought sf6 played for a while and find out they dont actual like the changes. fighting games should have more online free demos so people can get a feel for what the real game is or if companies are that cheap they could make it a payed subscription.
The fact that DNF Duel was released only 1 year after Guilty Gear Strive, with the same engine and a copy-pasted graphic style, while GGST still had connexion and servers issues no fixed, paper thin content and a bad ranking system, made no sense at all... They should have put the resources wasted in DNF Duel into making Guilty Gear Strive feel like a complete game instead.
daily reminder that 8ing is the developer behind DNF, and that ASW only provided the artwork assets and some of the engine as far as anyone knows. They specifically sub contracted the game to 8ing because they could not take on a new title while strive was being made
Comparing DNF duel to Third Strike is the most stupid thing I have heard in my life. Do you think there is a small chance that 20 years in the future DNF Duel will be played anywhere in tje world? Third Strike is on Switch because it is a popular and iconic game.
If nexon cared they would have hired arcsys to fully develop the game and not 8ing, kusoge fighters are horrible! DNFD is and always will be a cash grab.
The only reason DNF even did as well as it did was because: 1. SF6, MK1 etc were not out yet 2. COVID. Weebs are great at keeping their niche games alive (when compared to western fighting games that do not have such a rabid fanatical base) but you guys might have to let this die.

With years there have to be more and more modes, but we're getting fewer and fewer
it was definitely a factor. DNF had/has a lot going against it, but more content is the first step
Very true, although we'll have to see if they can get consistent releases and news going to build the hype for the game back up
I mean... It is dead. It always feels like a cope when FGC people try to use the "technically you only need one person" argument.
Regions, timezones etc are a thing, and finding someone at your skill level AND at decent ping in a reasonable amount of time when the game has 20 active players just seems unrealistic.
And no I'm not trying to hate on the game, quite the opposite in fact, I am literally hovering over the game on steam and was looking for someone to convince me it was worth picking up.
its not dead but its not exactly thriving either
@@flowchartkenYT They just need to spend money on marketing. Issue so many fighting games have outside of the big 3 is nobody has heard of them.
Fantastic games just die on the vine.
The Fact the it never made it to an Evo is sating alot. The game is dead and everyone knows it.
Discord fighter ≠ dead imo but not making it to evo was definitely a huge blow
Also various levels of enjoyment of the game I don't play or practice at home, but whenever I sign up for a strive tournament I always also sign up for dnf and I have alot of fun doing so at a casual level.
very true as well - I think DNF has a huge skill ceiling but comparatively a lower floor. Its an easy game to pick up and have fun with in the same way I felt that UMVC3 and DBFZ were
People focusing solely on steam charts are using the wrong numbers. There are other indicators that show signs of life within the community, and it baffles me any time someone tries to use steam chart numbers as evidence against that. They are effectively denying the experiences of the entire DNF community over the last year.
someday ill make a video on the effect memes have on the death of games, the case study for MVCI and DNF are definitely there
I think steam charts are a really good indicator of whether or not you'll be able to find matches. Most people don't want to hop into a discord server for the chance of playing against someone even close to their own skill level. The DNF community may be alive, but that doesn't mean the average person wants that experience.
@unrighteous8745 it's not even a discord thing. I know multiple places outside of discord where people are still active.
I never got it, but I really liked that Ghostblade guy. Really wish the game wasn't dead just so I could watch that dude more.
the characters are very cool
No, we are so fucking back!!!!
spectre hype intensifies
Tbh, the game was almost dead to me when I found out what they did to Troubleshooter... I know they were taking Dnf duel into a new direction, but still, it breaks my heart. I don't see much TS matches anymore, and when I found out one of my fav players just gave it up, I literally had second thoughts about dnf, until I decided that I should at least commit to being good if Iiked the character enough and... I'm still here, trying my best😅 hoping for better days ahead
rip 🌮
I fukn love Battlerite dude.
I cannot tell you how destroyed I was when all the battlerite royale shit was going down, it was so clear it was going to kill the game. Completely stopping development on your thriving game to chase a shitty trend, and then to actually charge separately for that game was such an insane choice.
The patch brought it up to 500 daily players on steam. 200 above KoFXV
The game is played offline and anyone can host a lobby at any time lol
@@flowchartkenYT Oh is that confirmed? then we have nothing to worry about then lol
Being able to play and host a match is already 50% of the game IMO.
Sry for the misunderstanding I gave up digging info after hearing it was a 50/60$ game.
@@MangaGamified no worries, and yeah I have been pretty candid I don't think the game is worth 50/60 and it never should've gotten a switch port before crossplay was built imo.
The devs definitely need to slash the price and give people a reason to come back at this point
after 2 dlc characters and only 63 players on pc after 10 days of a new dlc characters, YES.
What they really need to do is reduce the base price to 40 bucks or less, and have it on a month long 50% off sale, 50 bucks with only a couple mediocre sales for a game with such little content is just not gonna do it; knowing Nexon, however, that is not gonna happen.
game is going on sale soon fortunately
Battlerite was such a good game. It had potential. The devs shouldve continued working on it instead of their battle royale game
BR Royale killed it completely. Very unfortunate
@@flowchartkenYT they could've kept both games alive had they worked on battlerite first then released the br
@@RealKorean I still think charging for them separately was a mistake. If they made it a free mode or if they at least pretended to work on both maybe. But charging more money for people like me who already paid for BR alpha so they could stop making content for BR and chase a trend was borderline insulting
@@flowchartkenYT agreed
Wouldn't say it's dead but the time it taking for updates and the way the game is presenting it's self with trailers is so tough for it's perception
It sucks seeing a game go from loved to made fun of for everything it's doing
It has definitely become a punching bag sadly
🙏🙏
DNF :D is going through its process. It might pick up with new characters and new mechanics. Just have to wait and see.
yup
I truly believe that this game needs 4 things to bring it back from the brink of death
1: drop the price to at atleast $19.99 - $24.99 the game lacks not enough content to justify the cost of the game
2: Crossplay.
Seriously confused the hell out of me that the switch got the game before Xbox did with the lack of rollback and the fact that majority of switch owners don't have the oled model means no LAN connection like wtf where they thinking
4: Gamepass.
Agree with all of this. I don't think theyll cut the price that much but they can and should put the game on sale 7/12
FGAO
Why did you have to bring up Battlerite man, those wounds will never close. I fucking LOVED that game.
gone but never forgotten 😢
39 players on steam bruh, my fking class back in secondary school had more people than that!
But what about your class in primary school
Ok can i get the sauce of the anime that was at the end? the animation looked nuts
ua-cam.com/video/6NZwT8aV-zU/v-deo.html&ab_channel=DungeonFighterOnline
DFO cinematics, they are actually very cool and well done
I hope, tbh in bronce 2 are too many smurfs and is annoying
is there an dicord server i can join? maybe for playstation cause like
discord.gg/HNgSGBsEKj
For me the game died when I hit legend and every beserker or crusader just infinite because you made one mistake, I loved the game but it’s just annoying sitting there waiting for your turn and not much defensive options
they dont have infinites but yeah you can die in 2 hits. Its something you have to play around and I enjoy it most of the time but its not for everyone
I love DNF duel but I'm tired of buying dead games lmao, i bought Samsho and can't find a single match. I just bought MvCI and can't find a single match either... I don't want the same thing to happen when i buy DNF
if you just bought MVCI you couldnt have expected much lol.
I feel you though, its frustrating
@@flowchartkenYT yeah, i bought it with 80% discount and the game feels awesome, but no one plays it anymore lmao. I'm looking right at power rangers battle for the grid now
@@Kakomss BFTG has a slightly more dedicated niche so you may have better luck there. If you do pick it up check out hollowshy on twitch/YT I know he loves that game and would probably be a good resource
@@flowchartkenYT nice, thanks for the advice. BFTG also has full crossplay and good rollback so the playerbase is all accesible for a match
🤷♂️
@@Kraftik611 well im with you there. My locals don't really have it either
That’s not really a good indicator. You could argue Tekken has a bigger competitive scene than Mortal kombat but that doesn’t mean Tekken is more mainstream. It’s a good point to have a scene but esports don’t reflect general gaming at all.
@@saintbutters3684 you can't play a fighting game alone. And games slowly die when locals don't have support.
Crossplay would be a great addition to dnf duel as like granblue fantasy versus
the game definitely needs crossplay - it shouldve been worked on long before a switch port
So i think DNF will be in a good place after, and then it'll slowly build back up in the scene (hopefully).
it will be interesting to see what effect the new changes have on the meta, it is definitely going to be harder to open people up with the IS changes
if you can´t find matches on ranked or casual, its dead for me. discord gaming is not for everyone. I hopeful the DLC will revive the game.
🫡
It not really dead but not exactly “alive”, I guess it more like on serious life support
Agreed
you have good edit good voice. you need time to grow your channel
Thank you 👍
I feel like people bought into the mistake of buying this game not realizing what it actually.
If you ask if a game is dead, that pretty much means it's dead.
i just wont tps blue archive game
huh never even heard of this
@@flowchartkenYT same dev nexon
The fact that DNF Duel was released only 1 year after Guilty Gear Strive, with the same engine and a copy-pasted graphic style, while GGST still had connexion and servers issues no fixed, paper thin content and a bad ranking system, made no sense at all... They should have put the resources wasted in DNF Duel into making Guilty Gear Strive feel like a complete game instead.
daily reminder that 8ing is the developer behind DNF, and that ASW only provided the artwork assets and some of the engine as far as anyone knows. They specifically sub contracted the game to 8ing because they could not take on a new title while strive was being made
The the super animations from dnf shudda went to making the instant kills in strive😮💨

Its a discord fighter so practically dead for casuals.
I would agree its not good for casuals. You kinda have to be already playing the game to enjoy it at this point and probably at a decently high level
I like the game 👍
Love this game

The only reason DNF even did as well as it did was because: 1. SF6, MK1 etc were not out yet 2. COVID. Weebs are great at keeping their niche games alive (when compared to western fighting games that do not have such a rabid fanatical base) but you guys might have to let this die.
