Another great review! Liked the opening showing the internals and how it was carefully designed. On the competition side, the Lenovo equivalent is the P15 rather than the P1. I wish for the day mobile workstations are updated to 16:10 screens and offer Ryzen options
Thanks and yes the Lenovo ThinkPad P15 is the equivalent. Looking at getting my hands on one for comparison. Can you imagine one day, they have an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H in a ZBook? 😍
Fury 15 G7 actually has 4 m.2 slots... the other two slots are in the same area as the s-ata bay, but you'll need a bracket or you can't screw the drives down.
Very interesting review, many thanks. The only one I found mentioning Premiere Pro. Many users on video forums complain that PP does not use Nvidia GPU at all. Can you please confirm that PP recognized the external GPU and actually used it instead of the integrated intel graphics? Which version of PP did you use? Thank you in advance.
Thanks. Loved it so much, got one myself. Perfect for my Adobe PS/PP workflow and heavy user office tasks. *Testing the HP ZBook Studio G8 as we speak, another great mobile workstation. 👍
Excellent review - I saw your previous HP z mobile workstation reviews and was waiting for the Fury. Glad I did, because it is the one I'll get. Could I ask - what is the screen to the left at 12:32 ? I have no experience with Thunderbolt - is it a single cable from the notebook to the screen (ie. does the screen need additional power?)
Thanks. The portable monitor is a Lenovo ThinkVision M14t with USB-C connection. (Review out soon!) It connects and powers the monitor using the one cable. USB-C can deliver up to 100 watts of power to devices, Thunderbolt 3 adds faster speeds and dual 4K monitor support. 👍
Thank you soooooo much for this review! I'm thinking about buying the HP ZBook Fury G8. I used to be a ThinkPad fan, but have been disappointed by ThinkPad offerings lately (especially with their decision to solder on RAM on many of their laptops now).
The Fury G8 is just a minor update to the Fury G7, tweaks like newer processors, Nvidia Ampere GPUs and 4K 120Hz display panel option. Making an awesome mobile workstation even better. Currently using the Fury G8 with i7-11850H, 32GB, 1TB, & RTX A2000 GPU. Love it! 😍
Price is crazy, I have a furry G7 17" rtx3000 for Solidworks, it heats up like crazy, fans work all the time, the battery does not last long, I don't think that 2hours are possible even if you are using only MS WORD. And my machine has all the time sound card problems when switching from HP dock to laptop and vice versa, problems are solved with hp assistant but it is taking a lot of time. My old Zbook G3 has way better wifi reception than G7, can not explain this at all.
Thanks great review, clear and informative. Ordered the HP Zbook Fury 17G7 with 64 GB and the RTX3000/6GB. Delivery time 10 weeks because off delay (covid situation they say)
I'm in doubt about buying my first workstation. What do you think if you had the choose between the HP zbook fury 15, Lenovo P15 or Dell 7550 with i7-10750, T1000 and 16GB RAM? These are all three top workstations but I can't choose between them. Can you tell in short what the cons and pros are and which one you would buy?
I would love to own this workstation. I love the Power G7, but as a film-maker, I could benefit from the Quadro RTX 5000 (& SD card slot). Great review!
Thanks for this video. very good review. Do you plan to do a special video which will be a direct comparrison between the G7 Power and the G 7 fury? That would be great. I think a lot of people, like me, try to decide between the two of them.
Thanks. It was in the pipeline, (e.g. B-roll footage recorded) but we had to abandon it due to other work commitments, covid, lockdowns, etc. Having said that, the G8 versions are due out soon, so watch this space for a comparison video! 👍
Not sure why this is praised so much, but there are so many disadvantages for this machine: - display quality is under any expectation - display bezels are huge for this price-range - fan noise is so high that you could consider this defective (I could only use it with a good headset with ANC) - the keyboard is mediocre - immediately switch to using an dedicated keyboard - the touch pad is small, non-responsive in some cases and not very good overall - chose the cheapest mouse that is better than this - the size and weight are under expectations (considering competition has slimmer variants , not even considering new Apple M laptops) - battery is almost non-existing when in building code and doing something else in parallel (really expected this to be better in a bulky workstation like this). There are some advantages(mostly the processor), but don't think they outweigh the disadvantages.
Great review - thank you! I cannot decide between the Fury i7-10850/RTX4000 and the Create i7-10850/RTX2070maxQ. Have looked at your Studio review as well. How is the temperature of the Fury compared to the Studio and especially the Create? From the other reviews I have read, the Create seems to have an issue with high temperature. Is this better for the Fury? For me this is an deciding issue.
Thanks. The Create + RTX2070 does have heat issues due to the smaller dimensions and extra heat generated from the 2070 GPU. The Studio G7 with T1000/T2000 has no heat issues. IMO, the Fury wins out with great thermal management thanks to the bigger chassis dimensions and quiet dual fans. I've had a Fury 15 G7 for two months, RTX 3000 model and not found any heat issues. Plus, the larger dimensions and weight doesn't bother me at all, carrying it in a rucksack. (Much better than the older ZBook 15 G6) Love the upgrade options, especially when you load up the memory up to 128GB (which in the Create G7 only goes up to 32GB max. soldered on) The Fury is a proper mobile workstation powerhouse! 👍
@@petterbuckholm4724 I would love to and its on the cards, (Especially interested in the RTX2070 thermals) but not enough hours in the day...and night to fit them all in. 😉
@@Dovecomputers Fantastic review enjoyed every bit about it. Can i ask what means quiet dual fans in terms of dB? Have you pushed the device to the limits and the fans while increase the RPM have not become rocket engines? I work 12h a day, and noise management is important for me. This is a deciding factor for me if I will take it or not.
What workstation would be your choice out of fury 17 vs p17 vs precision 7750 ? All relatively same spec Xeon 8 core processor 64gb ecc with rtx 5000. Question around what has better thermal management. Battery life, understandably limited given specs but an hour here or there makes a big difference on site and customer service for repair? Would really value your opinion Thanks in advance
IMO, the Fury G7 wins out. Using mine for 3+ months, great thermals for 4K video editing and CAD work. You will never get decent battery life from these power workstations as its all about max. performance. Excellent upgrade options, built like a tank (And weights like one) HP support is slightly better than Dell and Lenovo, again in my opinion. All of them have 3 year warranties for peace of mind. Hope that helps. 👍
Question: doesn't the 94 Wh battery prevent to use the available 2.5" slot? The battery part that covers the slot seems to be quite thick even according to the pictures on the web. I am thinking about buying this piece and I have an unused 2.5" WD Blue 1 TB SATA SSD but not sure if I will be able to mount it there because of this.
Great review! I'm strongly considering the ZBook Fury 15 G7 with the exact specs as your review model. My hesitation is with the NVIDIA Quadro T2000 GPU, I will be doing some Photoshop and Lightroom photo editing as well as some Davinci Resolve Video editing. How does the Quadro T2000 GPU do with Photo and Video editing? Thanks
I used it as my daily driver for two months, working on Adobe PS and PP all the time. Premium Pro 4K editing and encoding was smooth. No hesitation in getting this spec with the T2000 for this work + good price point without going crazy on the more expensive RTX 3000 upwards. Tip, always find more memory and secondary SSD for caching helps a lot when using Adobe CC. 👍
I use this MWS. Is there a docking station available for it? I am tired of connecting HDMI, VGA (via a dongle), Ethernet, USB receiver for KB & Mouse each time I go to office
I must say HP really ticks all the boxes here. I think the price is reasonable considering it has no real competition. The Dell lacks the engineering and care of the HP. The Lenovo lacks the refinement, and every other machine in this class is really made for gaming.
Totally agree. Been using the Fury 15 G7 for two months now and it's almost perfect for my requirements. Going to get hold of the Lenovo ThinkPad P15 if I can to compare. Just interested to see how they compare with the HP ZBook's. 😉
And parts replaceability along with the ease of access for everything besides the cpu and gpu. Currently have a G5 15 for enterprise software development with almost always on VMs and don't see myself going for another workstation-line as long as HP continues the trend aforementioned properties. What I want to know for the Fury 15 G7 is the thermals when it has the 8c/16t i9-10885H option. Wish they could have Zen 3 Ryzen 7/9 while holding onto thunderbolt for better thermals. Perhaps it will be an option for the g8 lineup?
Hi! Thanks for the review. This is very helpful. I'm about to buy mi first mobile working station. And select between Lenovo Thinkpad p15v with UHD display and HP Fury with FHD. The specs are pretty close. And I would really like to know if HP FHD is worth buying (as Lenovo's is trash for sure, it's been discussed a lot). But can't find the proper information. Most HP reviews have UHD 4K (that is considered to be mindblowing, as well as the price, lol). I'm not chasing 4k content, but good color range and true colors are essential to me as I do work with photos from time to time.
Thanks for the comments. The review model is 15.6" diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), IPS, anti-glare, 400 nits, 100% sRGB, so in other words perfect for Photoshop type work. If you are considering plugging in an external monitor, the FHD model will be fine. I found that quad resolution would be better on a 15.6" laptop but nobody is doing this on mobile workstations or business laptops. BTW, the Lenovo P15 is the direct comparison to the Fury G7. The Lenovo P15v is comparable to the HP ZBook Power G7 (Another great value workstation) 👍
hey nice video, just a quick one, can I upgrade, the NVIDIA® Quadro® T2000, to the NVIDIA® Quadro RTX™ 4000 (8 GBGDDR6 dedicated) after I have purchase the HP ZBook Fury 15 G7 15.6" FHD Mobile Workstation with i9 & NVIDIA® Quadro® T2000? just if need more power lol
Great review...I was reluctant to get another HP as with last one I experienced issues with the battery and charging point. Fury is holding battery for 8.5h on web browsing on other reviews, however on yours is just 5h and just 2.5h on extreme workload. Was it use of GPU that drains it so quickly? You almost convinced me to drop the Thinkpad P15, save for the battery.
Thanks. I think its to do with the 'Full Fat' CPU (running at a higher constant TDP) and GPU inside. Compared to Max-Q GPU versions that save battery life but performance is slightly down. With my workflow, I always have it on mains to get the best performance, so battery life is not so important. If it is, the HP ZBook Power G7 is the one to get, much better battery life, similar performance and great value. 👍
@@Dovecomputers Thanks to your review I've just bought an HP Fury - I am yet to run some extensive tests to confirm the performance, but the built quality as expected.
OK, first impressions, after installing the device and moving away from my old Zbook 15 G3 mobile workstation. I had some weared problems with the sound, but it went away. Might be something with the electronics, or some interference with the surroundings. Nevertheless the sound is worse, cause you lack the speakers in front of the body, so when you close the lid (which i have almost all the time) the sound is like from cave, cause the speakers are covered. Second, the camera is ABSOLUTELY horrid. I have literally worse picture than before on my 4.5 years old G3. The camera is not able to adapt to the light conditions good. very disappointed with this one. This should not be like this on a noteookb of this range. Next one, the bottom cover, although it is a nice idea to have it readily accessible is just a very very cheap thin piece of plastic and it is definitely worse then what I had before. on G3 that was a very solid build. Overall the finish of the chassis is OKish although there are bits, that are not matching the standard, there was on G3 machine. (e.g. on the monitor, on the top edge on like 10cm it is not smooth, but I would need to send a picture of it for you to see). The device also heats up more than my previous laptop. So very mixed feelings about this device overall so far. May be I will get used to it. One notice, beware: dock G2s have a vent. And that vent is louder than the notebook itself. I did not catch it before buying. Yeah and one more. I am using SC reader almost all the time. On all of the workstations so far, the card nicely went all the way in with about cca 1cm sticking out of the chassis. Not true anymore, it sticks out good 4cm and it is very annoying. I am thinking how to cut the card, so it is useable again. (added later, I cut the card, about 3cm, works, but they screwed the SC reader as well, you touch the card, it disconnects you) I was thinking about going to the different manufacturer this time. HP thumbs down for this so far. next time I will primarily focus on other vendors. Shame that I did not read and search more.
that freaking camera is...i am speechless...I feel like in 90ties, when it started. The camera on this notebook is so freaking bad. I am pixelated with LOT of noise even in good visual conditions. Forget about focus.
Totally agree with the webcam, not just on the Fury. Been crying out for a decent webcam on a laptop for years. Is this so difficult when cheap smartphones have excellent selfie cameras?
@@Dovecomputers Do you happen to know, how am I supposed to do shift insert on this thing please? (Another idiotic decision to place power button where insert should be)
I just bought my Zbook fury 15 g7 with the RTX 3000 and i9 but I don't know if it is normal for the battery to drain so fast in less than 45min it goes from 90% to 60% or less and the temp is constantly around 70°C max was 86°C even when there were no programs running and now I don't know if my laptop ain't working right or what (it is my first workstation )....
anyway ended up migrating to the apple ecosystem, for now. Macbook m1 has been flawless for 4k etc. battery time is crazy. Hope intel pull their finger out
@@Dovecomputers Versions with the best configuration (new, not used) can be bought (since December 2022) for a third of the (original) price. It's also a bit of luck, it takes a bit of searching (and sometimes waiting). Add: What I would emphasize is that Quadro RTX 5000 is also used in the Max-Q version, this one has less performance, the difference compared to the most powerful desktop version is about 30% down, I guess it is closer to RTX A4000... There are more reasons (including the size). My personal opinion is that it needs to be emphasized that there is CUDA, Ray Tracing, PhysX, it has professional drivers and VR support, etc.. Fyi: If someone will hesitate between Macbook Pro/Max - M1 and this one, (so if we take away from how solid the Fury is, how many security features it has, or what is the support and also what are the certifications, etc. ), so for example M1 doesn't support VR, (add: Mac will be without Intel chips very soon, by default) , and Macbook Pro Max with M2 chip in comparable configuration will be expensive as hell even in a year. + Detail: someone will appreciate the touchscreen that is available, depending on the specific application. Also, you need to consider if you need ECC, with Xeon it is then limited to 64GB RAM, but this is again outweighed by the benefits of using ECC. Much more could be written... ..It's good to know that a lot of things have to be done manually, scaling, some features, etc. (E.g. Ray Tracing, PhysX where needed, etc.) + one buys and the first thing is to update the BIOS and also the driver for NVIDIA RTX, including downloading their app, etc., or setting the fan when using AC adapter, etc... It makes a really big difference... Personally, I'm satisfied. A great workstation at a great price today. It's a beast, if you run it at max, don't expect the battery to last long, (so either AC adapter/power or a second [replacement] battery would be a solution).
DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP, I have been using it for work for over 7 months and it has display issues and as of today the display will not turn on. Also remember the people reviewing only use these laptops for a few days not for months on end.
"Also remember the people reviewing only use these laptops for a few days not for months on end." - Incorrect, we only review loan devices after 3+ weeks as our daily driver. The Fury 15 G7 we tested it for 2+ months before publishing the video. Unlike other UA-camrs wanting to get videos out quickly, we take 3 to 4 weeks to produce a video. Plus uniquely in our business we support a lot of the laptops we review.

Thanks, I think the short answer is no. From memory the GPU is soldered onto the motherboard. 👍
Are touchpad buttons soft(rubber buttons) ?
Plastic outer cover but soft springs internally.
Is the full HD screen touch?
Touchscreen is only available on the 4K panels.
Can you review g8 power 15.6 inches 32gb ram version
Sure. Just waiting for them to come in stock. *Currently reviewing the HP ZBook Studio G8 out in the next fortnight 👍
I have G6 and let me say: as software engineer is the best! I have a Xeon CPU and when I compile in C++ is amazing! So buy G7, will be better than G6!
It's definitely an improvement over the G6, love the slightly smaller dimensions (Now manageable) and better display options to name two.
is it touch screen?
No. I believe there is a 4K 600 nits model with touchscreen.
(added later, I cut the card, about 3cm, works, but they screwed the SC reader as well, you touch the card, it disconnects you)
I was thinking about going to the different manufacturer this time.
(Another idiotic decision to place power button where insert should be)
One can easily find with T2000 and same specs not more than 1000 dollars with other brands. HP keep price high without reason.
Wow, love to know what T2000 laptop you can get for that price?
I just bought my Zbook fury 15 g7 with the RTX 3000 and i9 but I don't know if it is normal for the battery to drain so fast in less than 45min it goes from 90% to 60% or less and the temp is constantly around 70°C max was 86°C even when there were no programs running and now I don't know if my laptop ain't working right or what (it is my first workstation )....
eeek about to go for the same setup. rtx 4000 though. is this a custom build? how long did it take to arrive?
anyway ended up migrating to the apple ecosystem, for now. Macbook m1 has been flawless for 4k etc. battery time is crazy. Hope intel pull their finger out
I'm gonna have to sell my left kidney to buy this...
...and the right one if you go for the RTX5000 model! 🤣🤣🤣
@@Dovecomputers Versions with the best configuration (new, not used) can be bought (since December 2022) for a third of the (original) price. It's also a bit of luck, it takes a bit of searching (and sometimes waiting).
Add:
What I would emphasize is that Quadro RTX 5000 is also used in the Max-Q version, this one has less performance, the difference compared to the most powerful desktop version is about 30% down, I guess it is closer to RTX A4000...
Please, is there a translation of Arabic language?
Just set your UA-cam app to auto translate to Arabic. 👍
