Thanks for the review! I'm a few days into testing of my 12950HX/RTX A4500 configuration and this thing flies! My first Zbook, usually a Dell guy but I'm sold on the HP. First thing I noticed is the included software works great for getting drivers and stuff up to date unlike Dell's lately. Stays pretty quiet under full load unlike a newer XPS I was using. Screen is sharp and vibrant. It's surprisingly lighter than I was expecting, the XPS is thinner but actually feels heavier to me. I like the move to a 16 inch screen, still slides in easily into my existing case and gives just a touch more viewability.
That was my initial impression with the Fury G8 and now the improved G9 version. Problem with the XPS (Otherwise great laptop) is due its thinner dimensions cooling is never going to be as good as the Fury which is fantastic. Plus, with the new curved edges and 16 inch displays, the Fury is still pretty portable to move around. My experience if want serious work doing, the Fury won't fail you.
I have the 12950HX/ A 3000 version. Do your fans also keep turning on and off, even when just using Outlook/Browser, lightweight programs etc. ? That's the only thing that bugs me, otherwise, as you say, great machine.
Thanks for this strongly awaited review! Did you notice any weird fan noises? Does using the laptop with the lid closed deteriorate proper cooling? Thanks!
No weird fan noises here either, just, the fans are running most of the time, even when the laptop is not under heavy load. Still gotta figure out though, how to fine-tune the fans with some external programs like Speedfan, etc.
@@fle2 Not always on, but most of the time, yes, but they're pretty quiet, when the laptop is not under heavy load. also, I have the 12950hx/RTX A3000 version, so maybe the 12800hx is a bit cooler still, so the fans will not turn on that often.
Thanks for this great review, I really appriciate it!!! I am considering buying a lower specced version of this bad boy, because I just need really great performance for coding and occasional 3D plan viewing. I would love a 16:10 display, and I really dig the 4 SSD ports which I would upgrade or extend yearly and I could just snap a new one whenever I find it fitting. As far as I know only the RTX A3000 GPU and higher specced GPU versions have the vapor chamber. Did you have any test units without the vapor chamber maybe? Could this workstation go well without the vapor chamber and lower specced GPU? I find the price pretty high, but a lower specced unit can be upgraded pretty easily in my honest opinion. Does this workstation really worth it over the precedessors like HP Zbook Fury 17 G8 and 15 G8? I had some unreliable HP business notebooks in the past, which constantly restarted, frozen and had problems after driver/bios/windows updates. Did you notice any issues, random shutdowns or freezes maybe? Thanks for your inputs and you have gotten a new subsciber for your channel of course!
The RTX A1000 and A2000 doesn't get too hot compared to the higher spec GPU's hence the lack of the vapour chamber. Don't think cooling will be a problem due to the larger chassis dimensions found in the Fury. Used the Fury G7/G8 and now the G9 for months at a time and they are ultra-reliable IMO. Love the upgrade options, performance and didn't really notice the extra weight when moving it from home to office and vice versa. Thanks for the sub!
Hello! Thank you for the review. I just got my model in, and there’s one area that confuses me. Does the trackpad itself not click? I’m aware of the three dedicated buttons below the trackpad, but does the trackpad itself not click? I don’t want to break mine by pressing too hard, so I assumed it didn’t have that functionality. But if it does and mine is just stuck, it’d be nice to know. Thanks for the great content!
Normally a double tap on the touchpad will act as the mouse button click. There is also the two integrated mouse buttons at the bottom of the touchpad.
Excellent review! Two questions, the HDD capacity was a bit confusing, the 4TB limit for PCIe 4.0 is for the entire machine (not per slot). Can a single 4TB drive be installed, or is it qty4 1TB drives? Also have you first hand been able to compare the 400nit oled touch against the 500nit dreamcolor lcd?
The storage limits are confusing! 1st SSD slot, 2TB PCIe4x4, 2nd slot 4TB, 3rd slot 2TB and 4th slot max. 4TB. Total 12TB PCIe4x4. The DreamColour panel has 120 Hz refresh rate, matte screen while the OLED panel is a touchscreen (glass). Both have 100% DCI-P3 colour accuracy.
@@Dovecomputers Thank you so much for the quick reply, your video at 2:21 is a little confusing/conflicting as it states 12TB ONLY with PCIe 3 SSD, it says ONLY 4TB with PCIe 4 SSD, but your reply above seems to indicate that 12TB of PCIe4 is possible with Qty2 4TB and Qty2 2TB drives (all PCIe4). I looked at the G9 quickspecs and it does not define on a per slot basis what is acceptable. Where did this come from? Also for display, I was trying to decide if color accuracy is NOT needed (ie excessive blue is ok), which display is brighter/better (does the attenuation of the touch digitizer exceed the gain from the better contrast of OLED display? versus the extra 100nits on the UHD "dreamcolor" LCD with better color accuracy and no digitizer attenuation)
At the time of testing (3 months ago) that was the limitation set by the HP spec guide. i.e. PCIe4x4 4TB drives were less common then. Information is found in the user guide and quick guide. What will you be using the Fury for, display wise?
Thank you so much for your commitment and excellent review of most waited laptop. I liked the excellent upgradability features, 4SODIMMs, 4 m.2 NVMe Slots upto 12TB, robust security features, alder lake HX series etc.. Your video really helped to decide whether I should buy Studio G9 / Fury G9, the comparison of Benchmarks, Thermal Systems etc. I have decided with regards to my Work, I finally went with Fury G9. I would be really grateful if you help me few question of the Display Technology - HP SureView Reflect - Integrated Privacy Screen with 1000nits (WUXGA 1920*1200). I have read through product datasheet and a sureview reflect video from you a longtime ago, I didn't got enough details. 1. Does the Screen can get 1000 nits or relatively low (~800) even if we don't turn on the privacy screen mode? 2. Is the Display quality and Brightness is good when compared to normal display with 400 nits WUXGA resolution? 3. What would be problems of having Privacy Screen display, does it impact any screen performance/ durability on long run? Thank you so much😇😊
Thanks for the review. Are you aware whether HP provides on site support? I am using mobile workstations for a while (previously p17s and precisions). They always required some hardware support, never worked correctly.
Reviews do not come any better than this...crammed with brilliantly presented info. So well done!
They certainly do. The number one and two issues of laptop use are heat & noise... not covered at all.
This workstation is soo beautiful I immediately fell in love with it
It's a great mobile workstation. 👍
Love your in-depth reviews
Is it gonna be an issue over long term that the hot air is blowing directly on the display hinge ?
Great review subbed

How is the temps to the touch? Is it generating lots of heat, or did they do a good job of dissipating heat?
Excellent cooling, due to the larger chassis dimensions and vapour chamber with the higher end GPU's.

No weird fan noises throughout the 6 weeks of testing. With an external monitor and the lid closed, the fan was working normally.

how many gigabytes of ram does it have? (sorry im not good at reading the specs, but just curious)
The review model has 32GB. Max. 128GB DDR5.
Is it Better than MacBook 16” for heavy graphic design?
IMO, yes. Plus you have the bonus of upgradable memory and storage SSDs. Cheaper to do so too than a MacBook Pro.
How will an Nividia RTX A2000 do in this machine?
Generally good for light to medium workflows.
Is it loud? Greetz from 🇨🇭
Not stupid loud when it is heavily used. With its large dimensions and vapour chamber cooling it does an excellent job of keeping things cool.

It stinks how the 17 inch versions are waaay overpriced
