I was aware, regarding the f and s everyone. But by me mentioning something like that it encourages people to write in the comments. This in turn helps promote the video. 😉
Pual would you fufill my suggestion by visiting the grave of english actor gene wilder please and you are the sweetest kindest most special guy on youtube ♥️♥️
Wickedly wise 👌 👏
You're too clever not to have known this lol 😂
Thank you Paul for this. Poor chap , a small beer. So different to what is consumed nowadays. The magnificent Winchester Cathedral. Look forward to you taking us round.
I have been sober 8 years thanks to Alcoholics Anonymous. The AA big book is one of the best selling books in the world. Thank you Paul. 🍺
Well done ❤
Well done ❤xx
❤ Well done to you. X
Well done and all the best to you
What a story Paul RIP young man, lovely cathedral also looks so peaceful walking round the grounds thx again Paul x
Finally...a grave I've been to. I was on a tour with a Men & Boys choir a number of years ago and sang at Winchester Cathedral for an entire week. Because I enjoyed english bitter at the pubs...maybe too much...people pointed out Thomas Thercher's grave several times. I did not realize at the time that his story had such an impact on AA. So some good has come from a sad story.
Hi Paul...A great and supportive post... hopefully YOU may have changed the mind of someone with this terrible addiction...Good luck geezer
Yet another very interesting video Paul, I had never heard of Mr Thetcher. From the outside, Winchester Cathedral is beautiful, and can't wait for your video of the inside. Thanks for uploading). X
Amazing story Paul. Many thanks. Would love to visit Winchester. 😊
Actually, Bill Wilson started AA through association with Dr Bob Smith. The "sound alike" name you were likely referencing was Ebby Thatcher..the member if a temperance group, the Oxford Group, a forerunner to Alcoholics Anonymous
Thanks for the video
Very intetesting video, Plus Winchester is a lovely City...Thanks yet again Paul
Im a recovering alcoholic through 12 step programme of alcoholics anonymous...have been to see that grave as a pilgrimage 😊😊😊😊
Well done. All the best to you

Stay strong and keep going 👊
@@UnusualThings1 Your Thomas Thetcher video reminded me of an interesting grave we have here in one of our cemetery’s. I only knew of this grave back in 95. Just google Here Be Pirates… Enjoying Norfolk. Cheers for your time and videos ;o)
Hope you are still doing ok
Another fantastic video, looking forward to seeing inside the cathedral.

RIP Thomas Thetcher 💐💐, thank you Paul. Xx
Looking forward to the video of inside the cathedral.
AA is an absolute godsend to my family.
Thank you for the information on this vlog, brilliant 👏
Thank you for sharing that. I didn’t know that lovely cathedral. It seem like the one in Liverpool where I live live not far lovely Cathedral till I moved to Liverpool. I never seen a cathedral and a Anglican church enjoyed watching you take care. Keep safe. Drive carefully. 😊👍
Ive been sober for 15 years now thanks to the Lord God almighty
Well done. All the best to you
Very interesting video thanks Paul
Loved the 1m 27 ''and he died in...erm...back again, 1764'' :D. I raise a glass to the memory of Thomas Thetcher, a cup of cocoa or a beer? I'd have fallen into the same trap. Paul, a brilliant vid bringing to life a fascinating story I had no idea about. Thank you.
The inscription is a true copy of the original the script is as it would have been if you look at seventeenth and eighteenth Century Headstones and monuments this isth spelling of the time. F's. = S. T's.=F many words are missing letters or have extra ones added most people had limited education at this time and few if any Dictionaries existed untill Doctor Johnon wrote one in the mid Eighteenth Century. Which became the book of reference for all.
😊👍 spelling the person might be like me dyslexic. 😱
Hi Paul, that was an interesting video about poor Thomas, I'd never heard the story before. I'm hoping on your visit inside the cathederal, that you've included the grave and monument of Izzak Walton who is interred there. If you don't know, Izzak Walton wrote a very famous book called the compleat angler, (spelling is correct) and Izzak himself is regarded as the "Father of modern angling". Thank you for an intersting video.
Very interesting story. Beautiful cathedral and grounds. Wonder why all the spelling mistakes 🤔. Thanks for sharing love from Holmfirth West Yorkshire 💜 🫰
Love when you should us around the cemeteries and churches for us, that are in a different country. Such beautiful scenery
A great video Paul & very informative.
Now we all know how Alcholics Anonymous was started.
Keep up the good work Paul.
Considering what could be the reason for someone meeting an untimely end way back in the day, I'd never imagine a cold beer to be the culprit...
Interesting story, though - and beautifully inscribed headstone, as well.
Looking forward to seeing the inside of the Cathedral...
Thank you, Paul!💕
Great episode as always. Read that story in AA book great to actually see full story. And fs used to be Ss like 3 caftles tobacco etc crazy ay
Hi Paul
Wow someone from a few centuries ago. I worked in drug and alcohol abuse but never heard of this guy at all. I have never been to Winchester so it’s a new venue for me . Old English is very difficult to read. We did some of that in literature. It’s no surprise I failed it then lol. Books I liked reading but not Shakespeare as that was in old English along with the plays and books. Alcoholics Anonymous is a good organisation and the failures came to us at rehab.
Many thanks for this video
Much love and respect from across the waters in South Wales x
I'm so sorry Paul, didn't sleep much last night and looked after grandbabby today and I fell asleep after, just watching it now xx
A very interesting video Paul. I didn’t know that the idea for the AA started from a connection of Will to seeing Thomas’s last resting place, very interesting to hear about. Winchester Cathedral is beautiful as is the city. Take care.
Thank you for bringing this story to us, really interesting x
Looking forward to seeing the next instalment on Wednesday x
Thank you Paul liked the video looking forward to the next one 👌👍🙂
I was reading about him last night it's weird how all the grass around his grave is green and where is grave is it's bald must have been worn off with all the people visiting him
Another interesting and brilliant video as always Paul 👍 be
Interesting story, beautiful cathedral, and hello from British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦
Wasn’t aware of the origins of AA. Ty Paul
Really good video Paul I really enjoyed it as always 😅
This was made even better by Paul, the consumate word strangler. Worrying about the spelling. Thank you Paul.

Wow. Thanks for telling about the story behind AA. x
Really Good as usual nice one mate are you going to do some late night paranormal activity 👍
Sad story very interesting thanks Paul 😊
I always wondered what a "bad pint" was
Nice Video Paul
Thank you Paul. Another great video.
A very interesting video so sad to lose his life at such a young age and after a small beer as well. At least his death was not in vain as he was the inspiration for alcoholics anonymous which has helped so many.
Looking so forwards to seeing your follow up of the cathedral.
What a sad end to a young man’s life .
Oh and it's brilliant that his headstone keeps getting renewed xx
Thanks Paul, don't like to be left in suspense 🤔🙀😹 roll on Wednesday 🤗 Xxx
Thank you Paul ,very fascinating really enjoyed that😊
What a great story, great video Paul 👍🏽😎👍🏽
thank you paul
How interesting to hear about a man's death that would inspire someone to write a book on AA and how it started AA to which we hear talked about all the time still and congratulations to all the meny people that it has helped 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Everything has been said already. However, this video will be right upthere with the very best.

Great video , love watching this type , keep up the good work
RIP Mr. Thetcher🌹
Just catching up now been glued to the TT as it on
Hi Paul, love your video and back stories, seem to get better. I am into lots of paranormal stuff, like you, just a thought, would you try doing some of these searches at night? Maybe one of your subscribers could join you? Just a thought, hope it’s not disrespectful. Thanks Mate for your work.
In my 2nd job aside from my main place of employment my bosses husband's brother had same thing happen to him I heard his son found him in the chair next day at home with the drink on the table unfinished and the TV still on.
Great video and love your video thank you
Old tombstones have f instead of an S , its very common on old stones
I hope you are okay save and happy
cant wait forh is story
Could the inscription written on the head stone as if they were drunk
Thank you Paul . An interesting tale of someone of whom I have never heard . Sad that he passed away at such a young age . The only thing that I recall about Winchester , is the statue of Alfred the great . Oh , and this song from my childhood ; ua-cam.com/video/E_EEC7Zn6gU/v-deo.html
Could the inscription on the head stone be written as if they were drunk
The spelling on the gravestone was correct. Old English would substitute f for s.
Hi Paul, the spelling is correct for the time (I won't get into it). This post is probably going on AA is some way, can't say why, but expect more subscribers, best wishes.
Yes cheers, I was aware, but by me mentioning something like that it encourages people to write in the comments. This in turn helps promote the video. 😉
@@UnusualThings1 Love to say more but can't.
Text on stone written in old English, bit confusing
Its the way the spelt in them days❤
💔🙏
HiPaul. They're not spelling mistakes on the headstone. Old English, used f, instead of s.
Yes - I’ve put a pinned message at the top.
It's an s just a variant of an s which looks like an f without the crossbar.
Yes cheers, I was aware, but by me mentioning something like that it encourages people to write in the comments. This in turn helps promote the video. 😉
❤
Have you ever done Hartley mauditt near Alton.
No. Will look into
@@UnusualThings1 its got a lot of history attached to it
Cheers
I won't be reading the book
The spellings on this gravestone was correct in the 1760s.
260 years ago to 2024, spellings were like the times.
They changed.
Many S's looked like F,s.
My mother has a housing deed that dates back to the mid 1550s. Only an expert can read it. But it is in near perfect condition. Hardly any recognisible spellings on it.
R.I.P THOMAS THETCHER.
Is it Thomas Thetcher not Thatcher like PM Margaret Thatcher?
Yes Thetcher is what I said
yep looks olde english
whos Thomas Thetcher? Whats that all about?
F is a s in modern spelling.
Yes cheers, I was aware, but by me mentioning something like that it encourages people to write in the comments. This in turn helps promote the video. 😉
Not spelling mistakes those f letters are the old ways of spelling an S.
Yes I’ve put a pinned message at the top.
The spelling is in old English. The f is pronounced as a s.
Yes cheers, I was aware, but by me mentioning something like that it encourages people to write in the comments. This in turn helps promote the video. 😉
@UnusualThings1 I Always enjoy your visits videos. I find them informative and interesting.
Are you having a laugh Paul ? It is old English spelling and I am sure you know that.
Yeh read the pinned comment I put.
Hi Paul...have you ever been up to Liverpool cemeteries....St James next to Liverpool Cathedral is very interesting place...I used to go there every time I went shopping in Liverpool.....but unfortunately iv moved to The Midlands and miss Liverpool so much😢......
Yes I’ve filmed a lot in Liverpool
It's written in old English, so back then it was correct it's just how the English language has evolved over the centuries.
That form of "s" was written according to its position in the word, it was to distinguish between a hard s, as in houses, and a soft s, as in kiss.
I live down the road in Southampton and go to Winchester fairly regularly. I found Thomas's grave years ago and always pop and say hello to him when I'm there. Thanks for the extra information. Also been into the Cathedral numerous times, so much to see, looking forward to the video. Lovely walk outside the Cathedral past the water meadows and river and back into town.
I think they are not spelling mistakes but how old English was written.
Shakespeares plays were written like this.
Paul,
I won’t mention old English as I think most of the comments below have covered it! 😂😂😂. This was a most unusual, no pun intended, episode! So different but as always very interesting. Absolutely amazing to learn how AA was founded. Thanks. Bob

Hi Paul 👋
So happy I made it here 😂
Looking forward to hearing about this soldier inspiring Alcoholics Anonymous 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Have a great Bank Holiday Monday ❤ I'm blown away god bless Thomas for writing and inspiring the AA 🙏🙏
Morning Paul, crazy to think that him passing the way he did made a guy 150 years later think of writing the book, Winchester is beautiful.
