Replacing a Rusted Out Floor Pan - Resurrecting a 1968 Plymouth Satellite Part 3
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 вер 2024
- As solid as the Satellite is, the floor pans need some serious attention. Fortunately a full floor pan was available and reasonably priced. I've never repaired a unibody car, so there was a learning curve. Grinding spot welds was very time consuming but made for a very professional repair. I ALWAYS start with the worst part of the car so everything else seems a little more fun in comparison.
Enjoy the suffer!

Your the hardest working man on UA-cam . Gonna be a nice ride when you get her done
Good job
Much respect, work all day come home and work all night. Great job Dan. 👍
Dan Dan the Floor install man!!!
You are absolutely correct. Tackle the worst first. The hardest part is getting started.
It's so cool that you take on Mopar projects too. Especially since the parts for them are quite expensive! You do quality work! Fun to watch you save so many cars so quickly!
Now I just wanna see him do a ford. Lots of chevys and a few mopars, now we need a blue oval in the mix
I’m happy you used the complete floor pan. Seems to me it’s stronger and closer to OEM. Great work as usual.😎
Replacing floors is some of the most satisfying work when it done, yet no one sees it....lol
I like it when you do the fast mode with the music. You will be known as the floor wizard from this day forward.
Your channel is never boring to me. Its fun to watch old stuff born again. Satisfying to watch and even more when done.
You sure get a lot done in that garage of yours! Major job and you're so casual. Cool and fun to watch. Thanks. Get r done.
No kidding! Some people do months of preparation and research before replacing floor pans, Dan does it after work once a month 😂
The satellite videos are my favorite!
Yeah a lot of work, but it's worth it in the long run. That floor looks awesome.
Nice work, Dan! With the floor and quarters you are going to have a good solid body. I hope you can find a good motor.
YOU Love What you do and it shows Best CHANNEL 😁😁😁😁
I love watching you do floor's and body work, your so good at it. nice job Dan.
Damn nice job Dan, glad you didn't 'short cut' install. Your talents shine thru again sir.
LOVE IT> MAN YOU HAVE NO IDEAL HOW MANY OF YOUR VIDS ARE GOING TO SAVE OLD CARS AND TRUCKS KEEP IT UP BROTHER.
liking this build , good job
The floor looks awesome!..I think once you get a big block in it you will be a Mopar guy!
I enjoy watching you young fellows do all the jobs I never got to do in my younger days. Very good looking finished product.
satellite is looking good Dan keep up the struggle!
Gr8 Job Dan the floor Man !!🇨🇦🇺🇸👍👍
It's good to be diversified with the different car manufacturers. That way your really happy when you get to work on the ones that you really like!
Hey Dan you should talk to Chris birdsong , at junkerup. He's in the Vegas area and has more Mopar stuff then you could figure out what to do with God bless brother
Ya Chris has a number of good ways to stiffen up the frame for the bigger torque situations [stroked 400 is his fave B-body motor to keep big power under the hood without any ugly fugly scoops lol]. Still rather see you build an old Pontiac to breath some fire :-) But the Satellite is a cool car in that angry boxy sort of looking way. :-)
That car is very solid for a northern car of its age. Very nice project
Even though you think it's tedious, I enjoyed the floor welding video. Dani: thanks for reminding him it's a PLYMOUTH! I grew up with late 50's Plymouths at home.
Very nice job yeah it takes a while but so much better job can't wait for quarters!👍
I like the Plymouth stuff..and love the floor pan install vids.
Trying to get myself psyched up to do my 55 Caddy floors.
You're an inspiration.
Thanks
Get after it man.
It's nice to have all the repro parts available now days. I remember having to put patches in the floor of my Dodge back in the day.
It's much more fun watching other people do the work now days. 😊
Nice DODGE bud!
pucker those lips...
You don't need to worry about the wiring catching fire!
Nice Plymouth bud!
@@4ndy530 Cuz there's none? :-P
@@AndrewKarpyszyn hahahahaha 👌
Finally called it a Plymouth! Thank you
Well done I admire you’re patience, as always. Nice change from tri 5s
Pretty darn solid. You did an amazing job!
Great job young man. Do it right the first time. Tough job, you got this.
awesome job love the dog dish caps
Good to see it done correctly, full floors are definitely the way to go. Had to replace floors on my 68 sport satellite also, only thing i did weld in some subframe connectors before cutting up the floors just to be sure the body doesnt flex. They are also plus if you want more torque too :)
Howdy Dan,, I smell an allegiance shift here,, your falling for this Plymouth-- ain't yah?!!.. my first B block was a 1961 361ci. With sonoramic long tube intake.. (look it up)😉.. big heavy big finned car..
3sp manual.. not to quick,, but an absolute tire shredder!! I thoroughly destroyed a new set of red line tiger paws in a weekend!!
Any old 383 will generate 350/360 horse with little or no mods.. headers, an Edelbrock torquer manifold and a good carb is all it needs.. up graded ign won't hurt..
And if you wanna step it up, investigate mopars purple camshafts and timing chain sets..
More bang for a lesser buck!!
You make this old man smile kid..
Thanks for going to the trouble to make that front floor/rear floor junction like it should be. Happy, happy.
Just refer to all Chrysler Dodge and Plymouth products as Mopar and everyone will be happy.
"Your probably getting tired of watching me complain about cutting floors right?" NO were not!!!
Yes I am
Want to thank you for the idea. Needed to get a non running car in the garage to get it running (eventually) and get the rear end out for rebuild. Went to Harbor Freight this morning and got a winch. Boy did that work great!!! Thank you so much, John
And the restoration begins! Thumbs up!
Really enjoy your hard work saving all those old American vehicles. Gordon. Aberdeen. Scotland.
looking good - your skills getting advanced
Yup she looking a lot better now with the new floor in it. Looking good.
Love your show
Good job!👍
as usual you are doing a fine job plymouth is looking good
Glad you opted for the full floor. Those can be very solid and very fast cars. You might want to gusset the K member and order some stout torsion bars that will match your power goal. Old torsion bars get noodley over time. Paint the car and keep it.
Good morning Dan, another great day to get started on the Plymouth. Time to go to work buddy. I'm learning a lot from you.
Great job. It’s looking solid, I even like the factree green. Make a great sleeper
Great job on it. Can't wait for the next video of it.
The floor turned out good 👍👍🇨🇱
Those dog dish hub caps go perfect with your love of steel wheels. (Remember big block Mopar trans only fit big blocks so if you go to a 318 get the trans too.)
nice work, keep going ! my favorite car so far
I just got done doing a 68 satellite convertible, took me two and a half years but I basically did the same thing he's doing oh, it's a passion it's a love of old cars
You are such an animal! You did the right thing with the floor. I always do the worst task first too. It looks great and should really top off the rest of the effort. Perseverance is character trait that is a blessing and a curse. You push beyond normal limits but you get results beyond the normal as well. I think its a great job done. Now the old boy deserves a nice motor, to be loud and fast. Take Care guys, Dennis in Virginia
It doesn't matter to me what it is. Ford Chevy Dodge doesnt matter. Thank you for bringing life back into these old farts..... Ps thanks for sneaking these vids back up to 30 mins. Always a big thumbs up from me buddy👊👍💯
Thanks for the support my friend
You sure make an aweful lot of work for yourself ...... there was some pretty good perfectly fine factory sheet metal you cut out when a small patch would have been perfectly fine. But I do admire your determination and dedication to doing an ENTIRE floor. I would not hesitate purchasing a car from a builder such as yourself ...love the channel watch all the time ❤
You done a good job. You should feel better now, that you did it this way and not just patch it up.. In the long run, you just raised the value of the car quite a bit. You should be proud of your self. Ronnie.
love the plymouth stuff...
Good job! Huge difference
I wish these panels were available in 1987-90 when I restored my 69 Super Bee.
When I retire or slow down I am going give the car the once over one more time and make it right.
I have had the car 35 years now it was my first car.
Enjoying the content, I know you hate body work but sure helps a amateur guy to tackle it himself.
That turned great nice job and Dan
Floor came out nice Dan
Self tappers work mint for that, that’s what I use too. Great job, I like the new Dan sound effects
Awesome! I do NOT have the guts to do that... But I'm gonna have to because I have a Jeep Wrangler to repair. Necessity is the mother of invention!
Great job on the floors.
Hey Dan
Not boring at all.
Kudos to you and your hard work.
Take care😁
i love watching you bring back to life old iron that i rode in in my youth, brings back memories of better times
Good job of doing the floor as far as I can see. Nice job of filming it too! Can see what would be involved if ever any of us wanting to try it ourselves. Shows too if you paid someone to do it, the amount of work it actually is! Answer: "Lots of work!"
Looks killer. Must feel good to have that HUGE job out of the way.
You really should invest in set of spot weld drill bits and air powered flanger hole puncher as well as some "Cleco's to hold panels temporarily in place. That said the work you have done on the floor pan of that old Plymouth los pretty damn good. PS if you get a few different chunks of copper and attach a wooden handle to them you can use them as "backers" when you welding up the holes you have made when you thru-drilled out the spot-welds. The weld will not stick to the copper [even so I very lightly coat mine in "tip-dip] when welding the hole shut and using a copper backer you get a nicer looking weld when it's all said and done. When welding up holes drill holes in floors I have a pice of wood that fits in the hole for my floor jack saddle that way I can gently hold the piece of copper against the floor pan and weld the hole(s) shut and then drop the jack down a bit and reposition it and weld some up. I also will just hold the piece of copper again the back of a hole with the wood handle when I can reach them easily and also weld at the same time. If you happen to find soldering irons like used for copper or tin panel soldering that you heat in a electric oven or fire they work pretty good as welding backers also.
Floors look great! I did them in my 71 Monte Carlo. It feels good to know what’s going on under that carpet.
Dan, you ain't kidding that was a pile of work. But getting the hardest jobs out of the way 1st, makes the easier jobs so much more enjoyable. You and your steel wheels and your grandma hub caps, kill me. Open up your mind, there are literally hundreds of beautiful wheels out there. Lmao. Jk you do what makes you happy. Thank you for entertaining us, looking forward to the next one
You did a very impressive job, Dan! It would have taken me months to do the same! You're very talented and it's a pleasure to see this Satellite beeing saved!
I can not wait for the next videos!
You got lucky that the torsion bar crossmember is good, very common for that to rot away.
I'm glad to see you doing the tuff stuff, the next owner will really appreciate it. I do the same thing, not as fast as you.
Good job man.👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
*Looks GREAT!!!*
*Always Fun Doing Floors!! But Well Worth it when done right!!*
Only thing i Would have done different is use weld through primer
good job!
Love this car. Post a for sale video when the body work is done! Let the fans buy it.
Belt sanders are my favorite tool for cutting spot welds
Damn Dan you actually said Plymouth instead of Dodge way to go bro i knew you could do it must be all that coac hing fromDani !
What it's not a Dodge?? I just call em a Mopar
I forgot about the torsion bar suspension.. but I like this car 🚗 pretty crazy your doing all this work on this Flintstone Car.. keep up the good work Dan
Man your getting good at them floors. 👍 looking good
Looks great Dan the Man!
Wow I freaking happy you decide to do what you’ve accomplished .. it looks really good .. I’m quite proud o how u stuck with it An going the extra mile .. it will be worth it in long run.. hopefully you find a good big block mopar an 727 trans for it ..I’m actually quite intrested in purchasing when ur finished .. I’m in Kingston Ontario an have hauled cars for a living up till I took I’ll An can’t commercial drive but I have lots of guys I can call on to pick it up from you an haul to me .. so I’m watching closely on this one bud .. this is one my favourite mopar body styles .. keep up the great work An maybe we can make a deal when ur done .. !!!!
You done a great job. I wish I could find employees with your work ethic and your QC standards. .
This is why I'm here.
Killing it, Dan!
Great stuff Dan !! Thank you for sharing !! You are doing a good job my friend !!!! Be careful and God bless you all !!!!!! Eddy
I did a 67 coronet. Put them same hubcaps with 15x8 inch rims. Looked awsome. Got rims from summit. Cheap
Looking good dan.
All my thumbs are up! My 67 coronet needs front rails behind steering box. I`ll keep watching.
Binge watching this build...Love it!
Thanks!
NICE job. Took the extra time and it turn out really nice!!!
Keep the seat braces on the floor as they're for bucket seats. Good to see ya getting into this one.
My personal favorite year for Mopar in general.
That ridge and valley you cut off the rear of the panel WAS an important part. It was put there as a stiffening support so te body would be more ridgid. Mopar spent a ton of money on research and engineering which was why it was designed it into it. As for an engine, as I mentioned before, look for a Mopar 400 which are easier to find and if you really wan to make it into a powerful beast, get a 440 crank and get the main turned down to fit the 400 mains and it may need the counterweights trimmed OR buy a stroker kit for it which will already have it done and it will be a 451 which is a great setup and isnt super expensive.
Screwing/pop riveting in a street sign to repair a hole in the floor is a crucial part the the learning experience. Things can only get better from there...well hopefully lol.
I'm tackling this on a 67 coronet currently. Great video it's very helpful.
