yes, you can use it with cotton. i have with my supercarder for years. you must prep you fiver perfectly s it is so much shorter than a wool, and make sure it's fed thinly into the carder. use the burnisher brush to get a good bat, and then it will pull slowly off as a roving. keep your pull short (like the fiber), slow and even. it then spins like a dream

How do you know when your batt is done?
When you say it is done. The more passes you make the more blended the colors or fiber will be.
