Is it legal to build up cheap speakers and sell it as a BOSE speaker because of few branded plastic sticked to them? I'm sure the price will go up a lot because he say its BOSE where it isn't. It's not hate, I just don't wanna be the person who buy this cheap shit thinking its BOSE one. And they will burn soon or sound quality won't let me to enjoy them as much as I expect and paid.
The second you remove the speaker coils you destroy the woofer, this is not a restoration buddy, this is simply repurposing an item, I have watched many of his videos, and I must say he is truly talented given the right parts he do a fine restoration 👌
As a professional sound installer I installed no end of these back in the day in restaurants, bars, kids clubs etc, and had no end of issues especially with the bass drivers burning out. After re-visiting a number of installations several times to replace the drivers with genuine Bose units we eventually opted for a cheaper generic driver and never had a moment's problem afterwards. I always thought they were overpriced and under-engineered, though they sounded sort of 'OK' when they worked. Venues only wanted to install them because of the badge on the front.
I don't agree with you, I believe you don't think about the durability time! I have a bose 3 acousmatic and they are no less than 27 years old, what equipment lasts all this time and costs little? You also didn't take into account the project costs to develop the product. Regarding the burning of the component, it was definitely a poorly applied volume!
@@sentrapeus "project costs to develop the product" Yeah must have been some serious engineering to design the crossover in those speakers. Sorry but Bose has a very bad reputation in professional audio (one of the worse).
@@sentrapeus ah yes, designing a tiny little cube that can handle power well, and then putting power through it to make it sound decent takes lots of R&D
Nice job! I have had a pair of Bose 301s since 1979 when I bought them at Macys on an American military base in the middle of the Pacific. Repaired them once when foam and diaphram started to decay, they are still my main speaker now!
I had a pair either from 78 or 79. They had the reflector that you can turn yourself. To this day I have no idea where they went. I currently have a pair of 601 which need replacement woofers. They used to be a store near me that sold them, They no longer carry them. I either need to find a recone kit or find someone to repair them for me
I'm sad for you.for this years😔 You used loud distorted music. I bet if you hear from another speaker you will fall in love again with music 😍 Try B&W😊 Bose are awful. They don't have crossover and depend on heavy e.q . That's why the unit between speakers and amp. It's an equaliser
It's a fast and cheap repair. He got two pot glue on the cone. He built very cheap enclosures, no double baffle. Then he slaps the old Bose plastic surrounds on and will sell them as Bose and not what they are - cheap standard enclosure with a cheap cone - not up to Bose standard (Bose used to be good...these days...not so much). This place is repairing and flipping broken electronics for a quick profit. There is absolutely no craftmanship in what he did.
I have nothing but Bose around my house........bought 901's and 501's during my Navy days overseas.......in the 70's. Now have added 301's (garage)..........201's surround in Lving.........and 101's I think ....indoor outdoor out on pool deck.....which rock by the way.....lol.................my 501's died and Bose said pay for shipping and they would replace them.......cost 84 bucks , but they are new!!!!
I'm impressed. Never thought about rebuilding the raw speakers. I've got in a lot of Bose stuff. Some I just save for later repair. I get free electronics from this place 3 times a week. Been thinking about building speaker cabinets of my own design and using some of the raw speakers.
You need to calibrate the coils, so nobody is able to do this any good. His way of repairing is the correct way, only you need to calibrate it with electronic tools, the green 1970 ish wave display machine electronic people uses in the old days.
Excelente trabalho, uma pena que aqui no Brasil é muito difícil encontrar pessoas competentes para fazer um trabalho deste. A Série 301 da Bose é uma obra prima em qualidade em reprodução.
This was a great restoration video. Bose are really great speakers-until you hear just about any other brand of speakers. (JBL and Energy, among others.)
Wow just wow! what a transformation, you know your stuff my friend! looking at those woofers I wouldn't think they could be fixed like that! Fantastic job!
Wow just amazing great job on the restoration. It's crazy how the old speakers used lightbulbs for over-current protection, such a simple yet smart way of doing it.
0:54 At this point, I'd toss the stamped steel speaker basket and the injection-molded ABS pieces into the respective recycling bins and sweep the particle-board crumbs into the garbage can. A pair of Bose 301 - IV sells for around $200, the value of your restoration is multiples of this amount.
Love this channel. Don’t be surprised if Bose sees this and you get a letter. Their technology is proprietary and they get pissed when people start fucking with it. Atleast that’s what I’ve found.
Never cross your left hand over when feeding a saw of this type. Also wouldn't be a bad touch to paint some orange around the danger zone of that blade.
Good video to learn about how these things were originally assembled. I picked up a pair of these used a few weeks back, in pristine shape. But today playing the Bob Ludwig-mastered first vinyl pressing of Led Zeppelin II revealed their biggest shortcoming--plastic in the build. I knew about the plastic, of course, but didn't know how this particular application of it would reveal its weakness. The record is "hot", with strong bass, and at moderate volume the plastic end pieces buzz with a nasty resonance. The tweeter and midrange speakers seem to be the only things that could buzz independently, as they're screwed/bolted into their plastic "carriers" or cages or whatever they're called. I may check that out and see if I can squelch the buzzing by wrenching them down, but I'm not optimistic. I know now why the three series of 301s prior to the series IV are viewed with more favor--much less plastic in the builds of those speakers, though I wouldn't say they're robustly engineered by any means. Even the subsequent series V model looks to have less plastic than the IV. At any rate, thanks for providing insight as to why these crappily-made speakers buzz the way they do.

Energy used is energy used and with so much cone it's going to be marvelous if you had 20 of these!

I loved my pair of 301 Series II. They were a very nice sounding set. Sadly they got destroyed by the sound of canon fire during one of the battles in the "Last of The Mohicans" film on my home theater when a buddy turned it up too loud after I went into my kitchen to prepare snacks.
Lovely work. Well done. They were not a great speaker, and when elevated, they were very bass-heavy (part of the Bose low-end colouration and lacking in mid-range).

those must be from the 70's - that huge Bose logo on the front looks awesome. I have 301's series III, IV and V and none of them have that - they all have the little plastic stick on Bose logo - awesome rebuild!
I would’ve thought there was no chance those speakers could be repaired. That was truly amazing.
Repaired is an understatement, rebuild. I wonder what remained from Bose, just the magnets and plastic cases.

sure. Bose, Sony, Shure, Seymour and Duncan etc, all famous brands are overpriced. You can get the Chinese knock-offs and they work well enough.

To restore is to make same again. The type of wood Bose use for those bookshelf is unique. This was something else. Good attempt!
They used particle board. Cheap garbage.
Now that was impressive! I forgot how good the Old Bose Logo and the 301 looked. Great job!
Aw that’s nothin that new boxes, cones, voice coils, dust caps, wires, capacitors, and grille cloth can’t fix good as new.
Think of the millions saved by re-using those little plastic end caps and the speaker baskets.
