    I had a chance to see this Grenadier in the flesh a few days ago and it is every bit as awesome as we imagined. The Recaros are manually adjusted (thank god) and despite not having any adjustable lumbar support are perfectly supportive. There is plenty of knee room in the back. The double weather sealing on the doors is a thoughtful and functional touch. The sun roof panels are mechanical and can also be removed completely for an open air-ish experience.
    The interior while spacious (more so than a an old Defender or Jeep JL) isnt as spacious as a LC200. It feels like the new G-Wagon in terms of interior space. Modern needs like airbags and crumple zones have eaten a bit into the space but that’s a good thing. It still a very spacious feeling car and yet doesn’t feel too wide or cumbersome from the exterior.
    What I came away feeling is that it feels like a 461 series G-Wagon with some modern accommodations. The one that Mercedes never got to import to the US. The under pinnings, the interior space the under body layout everything reflects Magna Steyrs mindset to an off road build.

    Finally an SUV with vertical sides and live axles on both ends. I'm so tired of every new SUV looking like an egg....give me a square body any day!

      They’re built that way for a reason. Aerodynamics. Of course I love the box look, but it’s just not good for a vehicle in 99.9% of situations. It is good for a dedicated off road vehicle, however.

      Aero dynamics goes goes out the window as soon as any vehicle is 12-18" higher than a standard sedan, regardless of exterior shape....Mileage is mainly a weight issue and getting 5800 lbs SUV's moving from a stop. My 2012 Range Rover Supercharged (very boxy) gets the same mileage as our previous ML550 (the original egg) and has substantially more hp. The egg shape is merely a styling thing that the OEM's did over 20 years ago to mimic the first Mercedes ML shape. Although a lot of people don't like square bodies because of the utilitarian shape, I love them for their style and especially functionality of inside storage and great visibility. Funny to think that the most desirable and hardest to get vehicles right now are the new Ford Bronco and Mercedes G wagon.

    Wow!.. So far, only having seen prototype builds, I hated the interior (for the record I still hate that BMW gear shifter lol).. However, now I love this!.. It has wonderful functional form!.... I hope this is sold in North America!
    Great video!

    This is the first vehicle since my Land Rover LR3 that I feel has captured the special feel of occasion when you get behind the wheel.

      LOL, I felt that way about my LR3 and was one of the first to buy one, still driving it 17.5 years later and now this car has captured my interest in the same fashion.

    It would be wonderful if Ineos came up with a properly engineered system to allow two people to sleep in the back of the Grenadier. After a long day driving you might not want to pitch camp. How delightful it would be to pull a few levers and have a comfortable bedding arrangement with temperature and sound insulation and privacy. Much better than the current approach that people have of fiddling around with bits of plywood and crappy foam mattresses. There is clearly a need for it. Let ineos be the first who delivers it.

    This vehicle is being marketed in a really sophisticated way. It certainly looks great inside (fantastic switchgear, horrible main gear lever) and outside (functional slab sided symmetrical) and by all accounts it can also scale tall buildings with aplomb! The BMW engines appear deeply impressive. Let's hope they aren't surrounded by too much plasticised ancillaries which can fail due to heat cycling. Finally I believe these vehicles will be supplied with volume controls so that you can turn down the rather overbearing soundtrack.

    With Toyota only giving us the outrageously expensive LX600, I’ll cut my losses and take one of these.

    Can a person say 5 ft 10 in lay down in back of cargo area, if so be good for camping trips, I know the 4runner has long enough cargo area with rear seats out for car camping.

    How do we tear off the roof and put poptop campers on this with all the electronics buttons up there?

      Could be but this is not a production vehicle Type B. A lot of the interior parts are 3d printed.

    • @ebeightol
      @ebeightol 2 роки тому +2

      I think it has to do with orientation. When we are used to seeing locker switches in the front/lower dash or center console the top botton is facing the front of the vehicle. When the switch are postioned above your eyeline so the bottom switch is facing the front. But no matter what its a more analog accessible switches and panel so it would be easily swappable to what ever makes sense to the owner.

      @@ebeightol I think that makes perf ct sense.👍

      @@ebeightol the switch buttons have depictions of a wheels at an angle (depicting the steered axle) and those are what's mismatched against the text.
      Plus, they are side by side. Your explanation wouldn't apply here?

    Why don't you go to your local Ineos agent and test drive one for 1/2 day. That's what I did. Foot rest is not an issue for me and drives really well

      Yeah, we have been driving it across Africa. The foot rest ended up not being an issue.

    Ugh the music. It is possible to have background music that doesn’t compete with the narrator.

    That music was entirely unnecessary and distracting and way too loud. I literally thought that I had opened a Spotify link at the same time. Scott rocks. This editing doesn't.

      I've mentioned it in their previous videos. Scott has a great voice and they have the music gain set way too high. I can't for the life of me understand how anyone listens to this and says oh that sounds good. I'm not even against having the music just make the voice track louder than the music track.

  • @zippymark

      For travel, they are different in a few important ways. Principally payload and interior volume. In those ways, they are not the same, and those differences are important.

    Well, that nice chunky, intrusive air unit in the middle of the rear seats is going to make it impossible to comfortably put 3 adults back there so forget your thrills about a “spacious” rear, Yea, maybe for two. Big disappointment in that..

    • @ExpeditionPortal
      @ExpeditionPortal  2 роки тому +4

      Have you sat in it David? It is much bigger than it looks, and will easily accommodate three adults. At 6'1" tall, I fit no problem.

    • @David-my3uu
      @David-my3uu 2 роки тому +2

      @@ExpeditionPortalI have not seen it in person but know a few folks who have and they say that the middle seat are in the rear is good only for kids, very short adults, and short trips around town. Obviously you think otherwise and I’ll look forward to sitting in one to see for myself. Thanks for the additional input, makes me feel a bit more optimistic.
