    Paula from Paula's Plastic Surgery prefers not to perform plastic surgery. In your consultation, she will say everything in her power to convince you not to go under the knife. She's pushy, she's judgmental, she thinks you're perfect, sue her.

      @@grimseijithis is typical for dentistry. If you need your teeth out, there coming out. Consultations aren’t necessary for most dental procedures, it actually wastes the patients time and money. There isn’t even much that would need to be done to dedicate a whole appointment to. Just some x rays and a chat before they get started. You probably couldn’t eat because they use sedation. This should be told to the patient beforehand on the phone.

      @@Angel-ts8rc Yes I agree a consultation wasn’t necessary but their website stated the first appointment is always consultation and I never received a call or reminder that I would be having my surgery. I was also confused why they didn’t call because other procedures I’ve had like to double check that you have someone available to drive you home before you come in. I think a similar thing happened to the other commenter that, since I was referred by another dentist, they probably skipped consultation and assumed I knew I would be having the surgery that day.

    My mom has had 3 breast augmentations(bigger each time) and tons of Botox and fillers. I remember going with her one time when I was like 10 and they let me sit in the room with her while she had lip fillers done and that shit traumatized me. Watching her lips swell into a lumpy and bruised mess as the fillers were being done blew my mind. Couple days later the swelling went down and bruises went away and I was upset because she looked like a cartoon character with these over inflated lips and I truly believe it is the reason I have never once even considered getting any procedure ever. My mom was never happy with her physical appearance and after each surgery or round of injections she seemed to become less and less confident which made her want more and more until she looked absolutely insane. She finally stopped getting Botox and stopped with all the fillers and over about a 6-9 months her fillers began to dissolve and she looked more natural. She looks better now at age 58 than she did in her 30s.
    The craziest part of all was that she was stunningly beautiful and she didn’t need anything done…but I think she must of had body dysmorphia because she couldn’t see how beautiful she was. Now she is older and finally got herself into therapy and slowly started finding her confidence and finally saw herself in the same way other people saw her.
    Now she tries to worn others about the negative effects these procedures and I am so proud of her.

    I went to a lipo consult at 21 with no more than 120lbs on me, probably closer to 115. To this day I'm not even sure why I was required to strip naked because he barely looked at me, asked me what I wanted and said yep he'll do it. When I tried to ask about specifics he said "you've seen my before/afters, do you want my work or not?" like not only did he not care if I needed the procedure but he refused to even hear out questions & preferences about my own results. I just got to look(!) how he saw fit. It was so shocking how cold he was that my impression of cosmetic procedures altered dramatically and this gave room for me to reconsider the years of people telling me I'm healthy and beautiful as is. Sometimes I still want to alter myself but it's been nearly a decade since then and all I've ever gotten is a nose stud so...I think I'll take my time figuring that out... maybe for the rest of my life lmao

    The bit about plastic surgery still being serious surgery is so real. I had a scar reconstruction (to get rid of the pain) over the summer, done by a plastic surgeon. It was supposed to heal in 2 weeks but it got infected twice and I couldn't take the dressing off or get it wet for 8 weeks. Also the local anaesthetic didn't work properly so that was fun. And that was for a non invasive, extremely safe surgery.

    This was so beautiful, Caroline. I am having reconstructive surgery soon, as I was diagnosed with stage IV inflammatory breast cancer 4.5 years ago. Yes, I'm going to be getting two new "boobs" instead of being flat on one side, but the main reason I'm doing this is to chop off the other so there's one less place for the cancer to come back, and also to add some "cushion" to the flat side of my chest that has only a tiny layer of muscle left.
    The "ideal" body, face, etc of society changes like the wind. Why cut into a healthy body just to follow a short lived trend?

    I had necessary facial surgery this year. Like, invasive, six hour long, months of recovery, surgery. I developed an infection that made me so unwell and my whole head swell. It was not fun. It was not pretty. I now have a huge (very well done) scar on my neck from it. The surgeons, doctors, nurses, everyone, did what they could to make it easier and minimise long term effects. I am endlessly thankful to them.
    But, I came out of that very painful and distressing time with the certain belief that surgeries are risky and not worth doing lightly. Any of them. It hit home because as a teen I wanted all the cosmetic surgeries. That lived in the back of my mind until I had the facial surgery. I would never choose to do something surgically to my face for beautifying reasons. The risks and pain is to great.

    • @countryrose93
      @countryrose93 7 місяців тому +8

      Yeah I had medically necessary double jaw surgery with chin resectioning. cheek implants and liposuction were added for the very reason she mentioned; the entire structure and foundation of my face below the eyes was shifting DRAMATICALLY, and the cheek implants protected my eyes from drooping, and the liposuction helped my jaw to appear stronger and more proportional after the surgery. There are lots of risks involved, and 8 years post op I still have no feeling in my lower lip, chin and parts of my gums. 8 years post op, so I likely never will.
      It was horrifically painful, and traumatic in parts, like because my face was so different every single time I looked in the mirror for almost a year I had this deeply uneasy sensation of the uncanny valley/I was looking at my doppelgänger. I also started to develop an eating disorder because I got so used to consuming exclusively Ensure and baby food on my liquid diet that I no longer craved real food anymore and was losing weight and getting compliments. I always talk to people who are planning on similar surgeries so they are prepared. Don’t underestimate how much these surgeries can fuck you up physically with the recovery, but also mentally.

    This is very empowering and therapeutic in a sea of modern day feminists/society repackaging cosmetic surgery as the first and best option to boosting self confidence and feeling empowered and self loving. So thank you for putting it out in the world.

    • @ulhi7564
      @ulhi7564 10 місяців тому +18

      I don't think that feminists want everyone to have surgery, but the possibility to have it if there are things that seriously impact your health should be there. For example breast reduction surgery can actually be very empowering as it may lower the physical strain on the body. In other words, feminism imo is concerned with the access for those who need the surgeries.
      Meanwhile, I'm totally with you that society pressures women to get stuff done that was perfectly fine to begin with - or in other words society tries to tell you what you need but is perfectly fine with the circumstance that people from a lower socioeconomic background may not be able to access cosmetic surgery even if they could have a significantly positive impact on their life
