Thanks so much! I couldn't quite figure out the right combination for scanning. This helps. As for RS Signatures, I found these pointed to a single gem or rock in 3.22 on Lyria. I hope they didn't change with 3.23, but I'll check... 620 = gem (620, 1240, 1860, 2480, 3100, 3720, 4340, 4960, 5580, 6200, 6820, 7440, 8060, 8680, 9300, 9920, 10540, 11160, 11780) 1730 = Shale 1800 = Atacamite 1840 = Gneiss 1920 = Granite 1950 = Igneous There might be other rock types but those are the ones I ran into on Lyria. 10700 is a combination of the last 5. When you get an RS signature that isn't in the list of gem signatures, it will always be rocks.
Excellent guide through. Thank you. I lost 2 pods on my prospector and can't get them replaced. They took my Mole in the wipe. All I like doing is mining. Keep up the good work
@@SpaceShortsYT That is so kind. I have one in inventory but can't het my tractor beam to work on the landing bay pad in CRU-L1. Great Video, and just what I needed coming back from a two month hiatus from the game to vacation with the grandkids! LOLI come back and everything's changed.
Very nice! I believe that gems have a Sig value of 620,.. so an 1860 sig value *(or any number divisible by 620 is gems) is 3 gems. Anything outside of that, is likely rocks :)
Hi, congratulations on the nice and useful guide. Just one thing, the RS Firm for individual ROC Mining rocks is 620 and not 640. So the one with 1920 that you show at the beginning of the video is a single rock that can be mined with the Prospector
I was out in the asteroids outside of CRU-L1 last night and scanned in Nav mode and got no hits. I switched to Mining mode and scanned and the screen lit up with markers. Obviously, still some problems with scanning. Good video though. I learned what Pierce was :)
@spaceshorts what is the default ping button, and can you explain the ore bags for the prospector and the mole. i see them for sale but dont really know whats going on with them.
The default ping button is tab. I set mine to the side mouse button. When you swap the Mole Bags with the Prospector Bags (both considered size 1 bags) it increases the capacity of the Prospector from 32 SCU to 48 SCU. I have a video about it. :)
Thanks for this! I e enjoyed ROC mining for the 2 years I’ve been playing, and just got myself a vulture. Of. Ourse they went and changed the way scanning works in this patch and I was kind of lost.
Great video, learned a lot for solo prospector mining! Do you know if we can use the regular scanner for checking rocks anymore? Specifically miss being able to scout for mining org and just hoping we get it back.
Ya, the regular scanners don't seem to indicate the "mass" of the rock. That's been my experience anyways :) Other than that, they can, I am REALLY looking forward to the scanning change someday where we can "mark" rocks and return them without a gimmick :)
Great video, just one thing I do wonder. Why nav specifically nav mode scan mode instead of SCN scan mode? Outside of wanting to cruise around? Do they give you different scan results or is this just about faster flying?
@@SpaceShortsYT so maybe i get something totaly wrong? i can hav quantum .. and nav scan? right? using b to switch between. but in both of them i use the mouseweel to set my limiter speed.. and i think i dont get acces to the scanner.. but maybe my brain is only a bit twisted?
Lol, I need to fire my QA Team. "An" should have been "a" in one of the word panels. Forgive me. Also, I misquoted the ROC's RS Signature Value: Here are those values. 620 = gem (620, 1240, 1860, 2480, 3100, 3720, 4340, 4960, 5580, 6200, 6820, 7440, 8060, 8680, and more) 1730 = Shale 1800 = Atacamite 1840 = Gneiss 1920 = Granite 1950 = Igneous Best way to tell gems from rocks is you usually will detect gems at a closer range, and gems are usually a single teardrop icon, and rocks are lots of teardrop icons. One last thing, I think I showed off the Active Scanning key bind where it should have been "Ping". Escape > Options > Keybindings > Advanced Controls Customization > Flight - Radar > THIS is where you set the "Active Ping (Hold & Release).
ROC mining opportunities will be a multiple of 620, not 640. Also, ROC mining opportunities seldom appear very far away. Any signal farther than maybe 6 Km at most is not likely to be gems. A 1920 signal would be rock type Granite, a single rock.
I haven't had that issue before. I did make a mistake in my screen shot. Active Scanning key bind where it should have been "Ping". In game, hit the escape key > Options > Keybindings > Advanced Controls Customization > Flight - Radar > THIS is where you set the "Active Ping (Hold & Release).
Surely V is just 'Scanning Mode'. That is what it says in the keybindings so when you hit V it is just turning off scanning mode. Personally, I use V to turn scanning mode on and off or sometimes just hit M which automatically turns scanning off and brings up Mining.
I don't use any of these fancy mechanics and to be honest didn't know they existed and this very informative. If you 360 scan and pick something up about 4km from you that you didn't get from about 8km its not worth looking at with the prospector and most likely gems or single small rock. I only go to things that I pick up from 8km plus distance. The only time this isn't applicable is on first scan in an area. I easily pull in 150K and hour with this method and a lot less work with respect to all the mining mechanics discussed here. Still well done video though.
Not a Bad video, but u should have clear what u wanna talk and when. Starts talking about piercing at 1:39, then change to Signatures, and we go back to Piercing. It is confusing and hard to follow.
if your pierc is at 0%, you shouldnt be getting roc mineables at a distance of over 6km. and at pierc 0%, mole/prospector mineables should show up at 12-13km
The scanning system in Star Citizen is so bad. It hurts my eyes to even use it and watch people use it. I'm hoping they do something a lot like Eve online with probes and triangulation

Just faster flying, great question. No other special scanning details :)
How do we change into the Nav Scann Mode??? (Key Binds) Please help. THX
B changes from NAV to SCM, Middle Mouse Button changes the "modes" in each.
Why did they change it from angle and degrees to PIERCE and percent? Does it affect how much a scan pierces a ship or something?
I am honestly not sure. Not only did they change it, they never really spoke to the changes as far as I know :)

Tab is the default. I map mine to side mouse button.
