When the camera is put on a specific unsmiling person, and you hear other people laughing, that tells you that the cameraperson chose to focus on people who didn't like the jokes. It's like when Elia Kazan got his honorary Oscar; some people probably think of it as the night that Ed Harris refused to clap for Kazan or stand up... in fact, quite a few people refused to stand for Kazan, but the cameraperson chose to focus Ed Harris (and Amy Madigan) to save Kazan embarrassment. Don't allow yourself to be so easily manipulated.

For the two others that commented on this negatively Jo Koy is a comedian and performer obviously regular people couldn’t do it but being critical of the performance is ok when it’s trash
You’d think someone who is a professional standup comedian, who’s been doing it for 20 years, would have prepared ahead even if it is just 10 days. I feel like I would have met with the writers and grinded in those 10 days to come up with some easy and safe one liners. Or at the very least, asked the writers to send me their jokes so I could review them before showtime.
There’s a difference between saying “I am me and welcome to the golden globes” and pausing for applause, and “welcome to the golden globes and I am me” and pausing for applause.
@@Dani-ICU-RNI was thinking the same thing because at the end of the day comedians enjoy themselves more than anyone else and try to involve their audience to enjoy themselves. He treated this like a standup set and got flustered when there wasn’t much laughs. The roast should’ve been awkward and unapologetic. Same reactions to when gervais did them bit he treated the audience’s grimace awkward face as their problem instead of his and kept it moving which makes it seem like he was slaying the audience. Jo was too concerned with the reactions and crumbled to it by going off script and sounding weak by acknowledging the air in the room in a way that made him vulnerable.

Man I feel like he coukd have pulled it off if he just calmed down and gave the audience room to laugh when they laughed before delivering the next line and didn't leave dead air when they didn't laugh, timing is everything, someone with no confidence either rushes or lingers and this guy did both.
He admitted in many interviews he is nervous, yeah the nervousness showed, he was frantic. But I will forgive the man, he is very successful in his stand ups and filled in arenas before this event, he will rise above from this

Who the hell is Jo Koy? Wow, this would suck to have to watch this in some nursing home somewhere.
I genuinely think that some of his jokes were OK, but unfortunately, he made things several times worse by addressing the fact that the jokes weren't landing. What could have been a fairly forgettable monologue was turned into a disaster simply because he got too self conscious on stage. I hope we're able to hear more about how he ended up here. It's a shame but Jo Koy was just out of his depth here

Are we watching the same show? They’re laughing.

You’d think someone who is a professional standup comedian, who’s been doing it for 20 years, would have prepared ahead even if it is just 10 days.
I feel like I would have met with the writers and grinded in those 10 days to come up with some easy and safe one liners.
