Hey Gerry here. I was the guy who talked with Matt McMuscles. Some insight on the article with that Paul Rinde guy. To my knowledge nothing he's describing there relates to any project that was ever in development. I honestly think he might have been just making things up off the top of his head. At the same time Legacy Of Goku was being developed there was a 3D DBZ game being worked on. However, what that game was was very ill defined. I am not even sure it had a design document. We were just making models and levels for some sort of action adventure game. The graphics shown in the article are from that game, but nothing he's describing represents any real game in development. Eventually those assets were taken and we began developing a game that was being referred to as Saiyan Smash. There was a prototype at one point where characters were running around in a level and 4 players could fight each other. At the time we had a Dreamcast in the office and we were playing a lot of Powerstone 1 and 2. The game was intended to come out on all 3 consoles, PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox. However, we ran into a snag when Sony said that not enough people were buying the Multitap peripheral that made 4 player games possible on the PS2. At the time Sony had a lot of clout and they were dictating not only what had to be in the PS2 version of the game, but also what COULDN'T be in the Gamecube and Xbox versions of the game. Since they wouldn't let us make a 4 player game on the PS2 we were told the Gamecube and Xbox versions could not have 4 players either. So they ended up cancelling the game altogether and releasing Budokai for the PS2 instead. It was really disappointing because the prototype was actually starting to be pretty fun. After that we started talking about what eventually became Sagas. Sagas was originally inspired by Devil May Cry and arcade beat-em-ups. However, after writing up a proposal for the game, it was given to the other developer, and as far as I know none of the Webfoot assets were actually used in the game.
@@gswanson by any chance, was Taiketsu supposed to link to Saiyan Smash, or were the specifics of that link not properly defined by the time it was scrapped?
@@GoldenPSP I can't remember any details about that. Unlike most of the Dragonball games that Webfoot worked on Taiketsu was being worked on by a team in another state for a while, while the main Webfoot office was working on other stuff. I don't remember any serious work being put into the Gamecube/GBA connection thing. It always struck me more of something that Atari wanted to push. By the time I started working on the game, there were a lot of things about it that I felt needed to be fixed, but it was kind of too late. I didn't like the graphics. I didn't think it played very well. They were asking "what can we do to fix this?" and it was like "without starting over you mean?" To make things worse, the Webfoot offices had an electrical fire, and the whole place burned down while we were working on Taiketsu. For real, I showed up to work one day and everyone was standing across the street and there were firetrucks everywhere. We stood there and watched the whole place burn down. And then we had to work from home. And most of the stuff we were working on at that point was getting the multiplayer/link cable functioning, which was absolutely miserable. Once it was over and we got a new office we started calling Taiketsu "that which shall not be named" instead of actually saying the name.
Thanks man! I just started this channel back up after like 8 years so hopefully I can do something good with it ✌🏽 Seems like I'm getting some decent momentum
I had that Gamepro issue back in the day! It sure did hype me up for the Legacy of Goku, which became my first DBZ game. Too bad in retrospect the game didn't live up to that hype gameplay-wise, but at least they made up for that with the two much improved sequels. I wonder if Budokai 3 was meant to be released for the Gamecube as well, since Budokai 1 and 2 were. I say Revenge of King Piccolo is underrated too. There just aren't enough games based on OG Dragon Ball compared to DBZ games, heh.
I always wondered why Budokai 3 never made the jump to GameCube, I suspect it had to do with it being years into the GameCube's life and it not being very successful. They probably determined it wasn't worth it.
I know that background music! From dbz kai on the ds. When i found that game out i was impressed that they made the budokai games on a handheld console

I had that GamePro back in the day. Gave me so much hope seeing those 3D renders. I waited and waited but I never saw them come to life
Had no idea you had a UA-cam channel! This is hellla underrated, keep it up dude

I loved that cover on the magazine. It’s why I remember buying a copy 😂

There's so much we don't know about old games like this.
great video. your pacing and visuals are both great, and you’ve hit the algorithm nicely.
Also, FPS Dragon Ball game!?!?!?! Imagine if Lunch is playable in her version own FPS-style shooter! Holy cow! 😂
"first person shooter-style first person shooter"
@ 💀👊
You also had a cancelled DBZ game reportedly being worked on by SETA for the Nintendo 64.
Wasn't The Legend planned for the N64? Man, imagine trying to cram THAT onto an N64 cart.
We need that info someday
I never heard of the cancel games. Dragon ball x 🤔 i never heard anyone talking about it too
Sounds like the game went the same way the rest of the dungeons for The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, it was incorporated into later games in the IP.
We need that dragon ball tenkaitsu gcn prototype someday
Been Watching You For A Hot Minute - Keep It Up Brotha!

I found previews of Webfoots model library from Nintendo Power Magazine's Legacy of Goku story and GamePro Magazine #162
Almost at 1k 🥳🥳🥳
@@bowser-z8z thanks for y'all's support! 🎉
Great video!! What could have been…
We should definitely petition the company to revive this canceled game for the next Nintendo successor 😅
DBZ Kakarrot already exists.
Whatever's left of Webfoot Technologies these days.
@@shecklesmack9563 yup
I dont think webfoot even is a thing anymore@@shecklesmack9563
This should have been included in DB iceberg....
Listen guys me and my brother vivdly remember. Budokai graphics and you could run away great ape vegeta. I remember this today
so these planned games were lost media?
pretty much by the sound of it
Lost media implies it was ever a thing to begin with. Cancelled games aren't always lost media
Great video 👍🏻
I used to own the GBA one. It was the shit back then. 😂😂😂

Why does everyone feel the need to talk about games we'll never play?
Because it's interesting and sometimes has very little info regarding it in public?
What itsishbish said! It’s fun and interesting to discover this kinda stuff for a lot of people. Although everyone is quite a stretch.🤣
