What are the chords under the line "Lay down the boogie and play that funky music til you die"? There are 3 chords where you're playing the lick in 12th position.
Same exact 3 Chord sequence moved up three frets to the G. :) then end on a Bb dominant 9 (1, 0, 1, 1, 1 on A D G B E :) )
Then go into the main little opening riff motive :)

A little bit fast in the beginning..
Just saw a video of Wild Cherry playing this live, and the intro riff is played on the E&A strings at the 5th and 7th fret. Same notes, different sound.
Sounds way better to play it how they play it live
You're correct, best place tone wise is to play it as you said, A&E strings 5and 7th fret
Just when it hit me somebody turned around and shouted “play that funky music, Marty!”
This is totally out of tempo and sloppy. You dont get to hear all the notes when playing it fast ( I woul not say "at notmal speed" because he does not even do that). Also, if u listen the actual song you would realize that, the funk feeling is NOT played wih the pinky but sliding the whole chord. Finally, when playing the final part which is kind of a pentatonic scale, the guitar does two chords that this guy is just ignoring. He did not put attention into learning the song. Just play what frst come to his ears, which is obviously inaccurate.

wow yes the riff isn't exactly how it is on the record - he made this lesson easy so more people can benefit. Musicians play it how you fucking like, do a full step or half step, either way it is fine
no need to take it personal the fact is you are teaching it wrong and wrong is wrong. to answer your question about a video link, i don't have one because i am too busy, i don't have time to make a video and teach but obviously you do and since you are doing so learn the song the right way before you go about spending all your time making videos and teaching the song the wrong way. wild cherry has a clip on soul train or midnight special have look and watch how he plays it.

Ummm, yeah, that's not how it's played. First, the low-notes lick is played at the 5th and 7th frets, using the 5th and 6th strings, not the 4th string with the open string.
Second, the chords are played by a 2nd guitar, and that player is quite obviously sliding into the 7th fret barred 9th chord, which has no 3rd in it, as Marty says here. He's got the idea about not playing the whole chord, and just playing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd strings, but he's not sliding it correctly.

Love your spirit man, just gotta correct the feel on the 9th chord. first time round it slides to the 9th from a downstroke on the 7th position,with NO stroke at that slide, but a downstroke on the 8th, then the 2nd time round its a slide up to the 9th AND an upstroke, then a down stroke again on the 8th, its crucial for the feel of the song. Bless you all geezers
Hey guys. The intro riff should be played on fret 5 and 7 which are same notes at higher pitch (remember Scales?) This prevents ringing out of open strings A and D which is, in essence, the jazz way to play --- short muted notes. Just play open E then 5 - 7 on A and E.

Marty - that 9 chord - i love the sound, but i can't quite get it - always have to leave off the 5 string - can you speak to this (type) chord and finger positioning a little more. No matter how i position, the meat of #2 finger always touches the D string causing a dead string.
