One thing that wasn't really mentioned is how rare suppressors are in Fallout 3 compared to in later games. With a high sneak and the Chinese stealth suit, a player can literally stand in front of enemies of any difficulty and shoot them with a silenced weapon without being seen discovered. The infiltrator/perforator are the only automatic rifles that are silenced, and are to my knowledge the highest-damage silenced weapons by a long shot. They seem critical to any stealth build, and have always been S-tier to me, so much so that they're the whole reason for going into the Pitt.
That because they ARE critical to any stealth build. Ron is assuming that you're just doing some straight-up pure DPS, and of course running a suppressed assault rifle ain't gonna do as much DPS, but if you're stealthed, it doesn't matter. Same thing with the Backwater Rifle. It's invaluable for crit builds because of its high crit modifier; it helps that 10mm ammo is hella common. If you're a VATs user, railway gun is insane because it has a 3x crit modifier, as well as triple damage multiplier to limbs...which includes the head. When you're running a VATS build, the keys are to get your crit rate as high as possible and to abuse Grim Reaper's Sprint as much as you can.
an fun fact about infiltrator and perferator in vats is that infiltrator fires 3 times in vats when perferator only 2, when going for one vat kills thats preety important
i thing we had different games. 100 guns and the unique chinese assault rifle does 17.6 damage per shot and has a dps of like 150. definitely deserves A tier at least
I remember fallout 3 guns having too much shake and spread to be useful at even medium range if shot one round at a time. I'm almost always a semi auto player when I can be in games but I needed the Chinese AR to function in 3. Fortunately New Vegas solved those problems.
The backwater is a definite contender for S tier. That 5x crit multiplier is nothing to sneeze at. Plus the super common ammo type; only potential issue is repairing it which is really no object.

7:20 I consider that to be worldbuilding, and I quite like it. Chancing upon an easily completable puzzle while exploring an area you will always go through at least once, which will then lead you on a small treasure hunt to a unique weapon that while not that strong, is still stronger than the standard variant you'll be frequently encountering. By doing it this way the developers get to introduce new characters, new concepts, give the player a break from their normal gameplay loop, and buildup the feeling that the world you're exploring is lived in; that people other than yourself traverse it and have lives and motivations separate from your own. I prefer that approach to simply finding a unique weapon in a random location somewhere with no backstory explaining why or how it's ended up where it is. And I really prefer it to the developers simply distributing the unique weapons to vendors, assigning outrageous prices to them, and calling it a day. 9:00 Both hunting rifles are perfectly usable against lower leveled Super Mutant variants as well. Only when you start encountering Super Mutant Masters do they start to fall behind in damage output.
Doing the hidden quest for the Xuanlong is fun for the first couple of times. Once you hit your 20th playthrough (or in my case, 46th), going for it becomes less fun and more tedious. I'd prefer it if the weapon was in a safe with a Very Hard lock, needing 100 Lockpicking, or doing the hidden quest and it opening the safe with no lock. In that way you still have the world building aspect to it, but for the players who have done the quest before, it would be nice to have an option to skip the quest.
I dont know why you're making the Xuanlong sound so complex to get. The dudes name is Prime. You literally just select the prime number in 3 terminals and grab a holotape that marks a location on your map. Gun is at the location. Thats it, its really pretty simple and just about everyone stumbles into it as they go through the main story. Not to mention the location for it has minimal enemies and is fairly close to Vault 101. The only problem with the gun is something you didnt even mention, it degrades super fast. The biggest flaw of the Xuanlong Rifle is that you can break it so damn fast. If you're using this gun, your character better have high repair.
Complete the Pitt. Ammunition is no longer a problem. Its like if you have the DLCs and nowadays who would play Fallout 3 without them ammo isnt going to be problem very long. You can take on the Pitt fairly early if you know what you are doing then just fill up the ammo press with scrap metal and the ammo types you dont need. Lincoln's Repeater is absolutely S tier. You can get it super early in the game, and it's low action point requirement gives you loads of shots for a VATS build.
You know, i'm not really opposed to a unique weapon that requires a long, involved scavenger hunt to obtain-- those kinds of mysteries can make the weapon itself seem so much more special. Its just that in this case, it was the Xuanlong AS, a gun with the distinguishing factor of being very slightly shootier than its non-unique variant.
I respect that placement on the sniper rifle, but how do you use it that it is considered good? I can't snipe anything with it. It shakes like crazy whenever I aim down, and aiming down with vats does so little to help that I might as well use the hunting rifle to I get the same effect.
I think I have different version of F3. Every time I use the Sniper Rifle outside of VATS it was absolutely trash, it rarely hit anything at long range. As for the 5.56 guns I always found the Assault Rifle to be more accurate and last longer before breaking than the Chinese Assault Rifle while the Chinese seemed to do slightly more damage and was more effective at close range.
I actually did find the Xuanglong when I played the game blind by complete accident, I just had happened to do all the stuff required to unlock it and way later on in the game I found it
Maybe it was just nostalgia but I remember the infiltrator rifle being insanely good. Assault rifles in general to my memory were really good. But maybe I was wrong too
the railway rifle is the best gun in the game. it's not the most powerful, it's just the most satisfying to use. who doesn't remember scoring their first wicked VATS hits with it?
In defense of the basic guns, assault rifle is mid, but the fact that you can pair it with ghoul ecology, superior defender 556 is common, and repairs are everywhere, makes it pretty damn good. Hey man good video, I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree on a few. Ol' Painless and the Xuanlong are easily at least A Teir; they've carried me through the mid game and into the late on some playthroughs. And Lincoln's Repeater is easily S Teir. I do have a question for you (and others) though. Do y'all really have that much trouble finding .44 mag ammo? This is something I've heard multiple people say over the years, and I just don't understand it. I mean yeah in the early game it's rare but the .44 mags are mid-to-late game weapons. I've done several playthrough where my two main weapons are Lincoln's Repeater and the Blackhawk Revolver. Both use .44 mag ammo and by the end of the mid game I still had several hundred rounds on me at all times. The gun shop at Rivet City stocks it constantly; and I think Moria Brown, and the ghoul in Underworld have it sometimes. I just can't figure out why some people seem to have so much trouble finding them.
After I finished the Pitt the last time I had over a thousand .44s and haven’t dipped below 900 since. Currently sitting on 1100+. I mostly use them for Paulson’s revolver, though. For a lever action, I actually prefer the backwater rifle over Lincoln’s repeater, even though that one is incredible as well. I’d just rather not piss away my ammo plus the backwater has an insane crit multiplier.
The Assault Rifle is S tier if you spec your character with max luck and the proper build. With a bloody Mess and a few other perks, I can mag dump into a death claw and it can't touch me since it is just rapid fire non stop critical hits
another thing with the victory rifle is if you shoot someone behind a sandbag or something itll knock them down behind the sandbag and you cant see them anymore to shoot them lol. its really annoying
Railway rifle is s tier. Similar to ol painless in damage, semi automatic, cripples enemy limbs with 1 or 2 shots. Deathclaw running at you? Vats a leg and unload the rest of the mag in its head. Overlord with a tri beam? Pop 4 or 5 shots in its arm.
Assault Rifle works if you head shot people. Chinese one higher spread actually helps since you aim the chest and some bullets will find the head. Actually, you all are aware that some weapons are designed to have some spread.... right? Not every soldier in the world is a marksman.
Interesting watching this as i've just installed FO3 again after years of not playing it and i'm just in the process of tweaking the guns in the geck. I have of course cheated terribly with the Perforator and turned it into a semi auto, single shot with the same range and accuracy as Ol'Painless, changed to 10mm with 20 mag size and wanted damage inbetween Ol'Painless and Lincoln's rifle at 38 damage, x2 crit chance and the same fire rate as Ol'Painless. - I'm going to have some fun with that. I popped it in the men's restroom in Megaton 🙂 As for the other guns, not too much changed except slightly increasing accuracy and damage on some, (like the xuanlong chinese assault rifle) and tightening the spread on the Terrible shotgun and increasing the range a bit. Also changing the repair lists to be alot more forgiving and adding extra health to most armour and weapons. Currently trying to decide if i want to try adding a LOAD of carryweight to the strong back perk so i don't have to use the modav carryweight command. After changing some of the enemy level lists that'll probably be all the changes i'll do.
@@joolsmacgrools1288 Actually changing it to a semi auto single shot didn't work. Had to change it back. It's classed as an automatic weapon so i think that's why.
S tier is a high-dmg Chinese assault rifle (console commands only but since you've started on exploits with winterized guns, I don't feel bad on mentioning this). It's not exactly a debug weapon, it's a test weapon for Anchorage dlc.
On their own the supressed assaultrifles are average but with the stealth suit you are invisible and impossible to detect and thus making both of them prettymuch the best weapons in the game.
Backwater rifle is the weapon of choice for a Crit VATS build because it has a x5 crit% multiplier, but you need max Luck, Finesse, and all the crit hit bonuses you can possibly get. Get all that, and you have a 90% chance to crit. Combine that with Grim Reaper's Sprint, and you're death personified.
You omitted to state that the reservist's rifle is 50% more durable than the standard sniper rifle. Which is a big difference as sniper rifles deteriorate fast and are rare. This in itself warrants it placed atop the rifle list. The 3 round mag is no biggie when sniping. Head shots are key and when sniping.....shoot then hide while you reload. Reposition for your next attack. Reservists rifle is better than the rest.
Snipers are fucking trash on crit builds. In fallout 3 your crit chance is multiplied by the % of the weapon condition. Snipers break super fast, especially in vats, leading to them having a lower average crit than even a railway rifle. Not to mention the ass RoF and reload
@@ReapeeRon its a thing only in fallout 3. Its on the wiki too. Easily testable. Get 1 luck and and alien blaster. It has a 100x crit multiplier. Get it at 50% CND and itll crit only half the time. Crit chance is proportionate to CND. 43% CND is a x0.43 multiplier
@@boogit9979 Casual. Condition affects it but its not game breaking, the point of snipers is abusing the sneak system or just the high per shot damage in general. If you shoot from afar nobody will spot you, you can go into [HIDDEN] so easily over & over. You say this shit but you used the fk out of the sniper in Anchorage don't lie. The utility of the sniper becomes obsolete only after you get the Gauss Rifle because that is just a better snipe.
@@boogit9979 No u dumbo look at the list of weapons the Sniper has a higher crit rate and yo can compensate for the scope very easily just shoot slightly more to the right upper quadrant of the crosshair. The sniper is the best rifle period.

On their own the supressed assaultrifles are average but with the stealth suit you are invisible and impossible to detect and thus making both of them prettymuch the best weapons in the game.
I could be mistaken, but isn’t the backwater rifle potentially stupid powerful?
Ayy nice! Classic weapons
:)
No way
Lincolns repeater has great damage and has 0 spread
And lets not talk about your ranking of the chinese ar
The dragon rifle is S tier, must get my comrade.
Plenty of rifles shoot a .32 caliber bullet. A .32 pistol cartridge and a .32 rifle cartridge are vastly different. Lmao
That is very true, that is what makes it very strange.
Can't believe theres no Service Rifle or Carbine Rifle in Fallout 3 and 4.
Yeah that would have been really cool. I usually mod the game to have something like that.
Never knew about the unique Chinese assault rifle, kind of just proves your point lol.
Snipers are fucking trash on crit builds. In fallout 3 your crit chance is multiplied by the % of the weapon condition. Snipers break super fast, especially in vats, leading to them having a lower average crit than even a railway rifle. Not to mention the ass RoF and reload
As far as I am aware weapon condition has never mattered in any of the Fallout games when it comes to Crit Chance. Weather it be in this, FNV or FO4.
@@ElDrHouse2010 lincolns repeater has high sneak crit. Snipers are trash at range wirhout mods. Scope is misaligned
@@boogit9979 No u dumbo look at the list of weapons the Sniper has a higher crit rate and yo can compensate for the scope very easily just shoot slightly more to the right upper quadrant of the crosshair. The sniper is the best rifle period.
with high sneak and the stealth suit the Perpetrator is the best ever
This video should have been half as long as it is.
If you know what you're doing you can get several chinese weapons out of the Anchorage sim too.
I disagree about the Xuanlong Rifle, It's leagues better than the base weapon, I used it extensively in my playthrough, That thing will see you through a shitstorm.
That's fair to say, it is a pretty great for a general purpose weapon in Fallout 3.
Xuanlong, Dart Gun, and the Harkness's Plasma Rifle are the only tools I need to destroy this game.
Blackwater Rifle, Lincoln's Repeater, and Xuanlong all deserve S.
Assault rifle is just objectively the best weapon in the game on any difficulty. It does a fuck ton of damage and 556 bullets are really cheap and easy to find.
I still would use the r91 over the Chinese assult rifle. That thing looks disgusting. The wasteland melody mod looks WAY better.
Explain to me how your new Vegas fanboy without explaining me your new Vegas, fanboy by low ranking almost every fallout three weapon
I loved the perferator
Basic should be A tier simply because it has so much ammo and plentiful copies to grab and use to repair your current one.
Chinese AK is op wtf do u mean
The assault rifles in 3 were some of the least satisfying guns in that game, the pitiful spread and horrible damage made them unusable for me
Swampfolk use BB guns in point lookout dlc
I like your videos but I've put an ungodly amount of hours into fallout 3 and i just have to say this is an awful list especially with the assault rifles, so bad so that it almost makes me not wanna watch the other fallout 3 lists
Exploit weapons shouldn't be ranked.
That is fair to say.
Its not a sandbox game...
Can you please do the unarmed and melee tier lists?!🙏🏻
Sure, I might also remake these lists too. At least for fallout 3
