Get FPV goggles for the drone and drive the truck while you follow in FPV.
You should check out the Primal Raminator it is the most realistic monster truck rc and there is an 80cc two stroke engine available for it. I seen it first on Kevin Talbot channel.
Give it the "Big Big Red" treatment - 30" tires =D
You should get a Traxxas udr they aren't gas but they are very quick.
It's too small for you, Scott. You need the Fearless RC Raminator. I have 4 of them. It's about 3 times bigger than a Rovan
You need to set the fail-safe on the radio/receiver and install a DIY return spring on the carburetor or throttle linkage as they don't come with one. That way it goes back to idle if you lose signal or it loses electrical power to the servo.
I used to own an RC car and I had to do that because It kept getting away from me.
At this rate Scott is going to have enough wrecked RC trucks to build one from the pile of parts.
Your not wrong. You do end up with extra parts after repairs.
As a hobbyist of rc vehicles for the past 25years. Eletric is the way to go for fun and gas rc is more of a race car scene vibe. Either way it's awesome

I agree and I'm a noob to the scene but all that aluminum is a combination for disaster. ELECTRIC is the way to go and just more fun. Yeah, I get it .Nitro and gas-powered rc's are cool and ya get the noise but maintaining them is a love hate relationship.

-Yes, Loctite needs to go on anything with metal threads.
-$35 will get you a Dynamite Large Scale Kill Switch. This will shut the engine off if it ever loses Radio Signal or runs out of battery. You can also shut it down manually via a Switch on your radio.
-In case of a runaway engine/failed kill switch, like at 8:00, your two best options are to either plug the exhaust hole to flood the engine or pinch a fuel line to starve it of fuel
But if you want something that's going to give you less headaches, I'd have to say go for an Electric car like the Traxxas Xmaxx.
Either way you go, would love to see more RC content!

Love seeing you and your dad have so much fun on this channel. I lost my dad over this summer and seeing the two of you enjoying time doing things together brings back memories with my dad. I remember getting a gas RC car in college and the amount of time spent repairing the thing for the amount of time it actually worked didn't balance out. They are a blast when working though.
Use a heavy return spring on the throttle servo so if you lose power it gos back to idle position, stops run away problems

Don't feel too bad, Scotts. I bought a tiny little Traxxas RC for fun. First 20 minutes out of the box, I accidently drove it into a concrete curb and destroyed it. This one looks like even more fun.

If you want big horse power TaylorRC makes some of the best modified engines to fit that model. The Taylor 50GT for example. Don't forget the matching tuned pipe exhaust. The wheels and tires will explode to so you will have find belted or foamless wheels and tires.

The reason it kept running even after you pulled the coil wire is because the engine was so hot from running WOT that the fuel was igniting from heat in the cylinder. I'd be inspecting the piston for scoring. Take a look through the exhaust port.
Great video everyone ! They make a thing called a "fail safe " so if it gets out of radio range it throttle's down and applies the brakes . Will be some of the best money spent . I too learned the hard way . If you have it full throttle when it goes out of radio range it stays full throttle untill . 👍
No crap, I'm just currently upgrading and testing my 10 year old 1/16 E-revo, I ordered a Team Associated 1/10 scale 74.2 Kit and waiting for it to ship. RC is awesome.
The control motors are called Servo's. and running it in a hay field like that will make the engine run hot as you have seen where you could not stop it. the engine was running on heat in the cyl. Need to run it on dirt are a smooth grass. and cut the front windshield out of the body so the engine can get more air. Helps to keep the engine cooler. You can fix that wire but get it out from under the truck.
It looks super bizarre when you see how tired are normally shapes compared to seeing them when they are as flat as a grinding disk. They really change form a lot.
As a 20+ year RC guy. Y'all should have gotten a Traxxas XMaxx,it is a good basher to take more abuse than a gas RC,,lol

I remember those old Cox .049 engines. We had an airplane on a tether that did circles and a hovercraft.
This brings back memories of getting an rc car for Christmas and going to a tennis court with my grandpa to try it out. Nothing like what you have, but still awesome! I still remember that it was called the "white tiger!"

Servos, not solenoids. $1350 bucks for that x2. Scott has money to burn, ran out of radio range until it hit that pole and broke something, wire to the throttle servo from the crash. Hitting T Rex was hilarious.
Yes but in the video he stated that it was running away before it hit the pole, thats why in the drone shot its going straight, probably what happened was the wire to the servo got severed so it kept going and then it got out of range enough for him not to be able to steer it

The RC car running off as it did is known as a runaway, which is more likely to happen on nitro/petrol RC cars, as the guy in the RC car channel I watch says, "it's funny when it happens, but not when it happens to you". What I'm guessing happened is the throttle servo got stuck on. With all that said nitro/petrol RC cars are so much fun when you get them running.

I had two growing up, Nitro Losi XXX-NT with the glow-plug ignitor and the pull start then got OG first gen E-Maxx from Traxxas... being my own dad was tired of starting and fuel risks of the the Losi with me at like 10.

I prefer the 1:8 scale nitro trucks because they dont break so easily when you run out of talent steering it 😅
Mine is a HPI Savage SS on which I replaced the flimsy frame with a sturdy machined alloy frame but kept all the suspension parts stock ABS plastic because that a) flexes a lot before it bends like alloy and b) is much cheaper to replace. That thing is around 15 years old now and still runs.

Got 2 trucks I got for my son and I it’s been awhile since we had them out their nothing to crazy but it can be fun had a few plans but never got around to it need to get them down and check the batteries. thumbs up for the video 👍👍👍👍

A two stroke when extra lean will run away with no spark plug wires attached . I had a Yamaha outboard motor I was testing , take off on me and I pulled all three spark plug wires and it continued to run away until I was able to throw a rag over the carbs and choke it out .

Ha ha, I had the same thing happen on my Traxxas T-Maxx years ago. As long as your exhaust is tight and free of leaks, you can put your thumb over the pipe and it will stall the engine right away.

It wouldn’t stop running, because what you pulled off was not a spark plug wire, that was a glow plug. That engine is actually a two cycle diesel engine. It only uses the glow plug to start running.
This ain’t a nitro car, it’s an actual gas powered 2 stroke that you mix oil into 😂

You should get yourself an X-maxx it's electric so no "run away" and it's pretty damn tough. I've taken my X-maxx 30 feet in the air multiple times with no issues or breaking.
I got one last summer and can't keep it from overheating. I put smaller tires on it and its a totally different truck handling wise... for the better for sure. I also replaced the diff fluid on all 3 diffs. Just had grease from the factory so once all that grease slings off the diffs would be toast. Also the stock clutch burns up pretty fast. The smaller tires will help with longevity for the clutch. I put in the h/p 8k clutch. Like I said wants to overheat quickly. I hear that some of these came with a single ring and some with the double ring. Must have the double ring b/c I hear they have issues like this. My 30.5 LT stadium truck is a beast and had that for many years now. PS... get a kill switch....
Safety kill switch …need to install one ..if the radio loses single or if you hit a button it shuts the engine down so it can’t run off on you like that…the RC world is expensive to learn little mistakes can cost a lot
there will be very few vids on the XLT because its discontinued now for a few years. but the start-up is the same for all 2-stroke 5th scale rcs.

its called dieseling, same thing happens to diesel engines when they get an unmetered fuel source. haven't played with a nitro car in almost 2 decades but i believe that is actually a glow plug more for startup. once the engine is hot it's doing very little. the button kills fuel. you couldn't kill fuel because the metering solenoid failed due to the orange wire.
Gas rc cars are fun. They use spark/glow plugs so yeah they will diesel and keep running. Gotta pinch off the fuel line. And the throttle servo should have a spring that returns it to zero if signal loss or cut wire in your case. Launch it off ramp and shoot with 4bore midflight
Might want to look into a Losi DBXL for the next video if these things keep breaking and having issues with screws coming loose

We were at Myrtle Beach this summer and they had one of these on the beach. That thing was wicked fast.
The RC car clotheslining the T-Rex will never not be fun.
Definitely get a dumbo Rc remote they are cheap and have a very long range way better than that flysky you will notice a big difference
Get a traxxas x maxx youll have a blast and its better than a gas car easier to run and tough af

Scott Rovan is like the wish version of rc cars. Look at a losi 5th scale they are pretty good

I see comments of ppl into rc for 15, 20, 25 years. Pffft! I started in 1977. Found out i could 'modify' it in 1979. The rest is history.
US in the rc (radio control) everything, we know. It IS addictive!
But, 'it's only money'. Can't take it with u!
So if you ever have a runaway again and you can’t get it to shut off wrap the air filter in a wet rag or takeoff the air filter and put your hand up against it so the air stops going into the engine that be the only way to kill it unless you had a fuel shut off switch. And some vehicles that are really good at running like some diesels will start pulling engine oil through the piston rings and run off of that. That’s why you need to shut the air off instead of just the fuel.
Also a big thing with RC cars just my personal experience. Stick with plastic replacement parts as much as possible. Metal doesn't flex and for some reason breaks a whole hell of a lot easier

My guess as to why it kept going after the spark plug was disconnected, is that is was igniting the fuel using compression and heat, similar to the way a diesel engine operates.
I had a pretty badass electric rc car when I was a kid. I accidentally hit the mailbox post and it rapidly dismantled lol.
In the early 2000s, I had a gas Traxxis truck. I slammed it into the rear tire of my 78 Z28, and it broke the frame of it in 2.
I went through a phase with these. You need a LOT of money and a LOT of time for repairs I ended up having the time but not the money . They are so much fun but man they are money pits 😂

You need to get a Xmax traxas RC car they are less maintenance and probably faster but still the same size and not a noisy

Buddy of mine had one that was similar He actually attached a first-person camera to it.
sound like you had a runaway. it happens to 2 stroke motors sometimes. they develop a hotspot in the combustion chamber. which is why killing the spark didn't stop it.
