Make your Own Mark it Tool Hack for Polymer Clay

  • I love this tool but it is not available to many people in different places its a pretty easy hack and works just as well , so raid your recycle bin . My mark It tool cardboard is 6 inches X 1inch. If your looking for something to make the 3mm mark try a comb it will just leave small dots which works perfectly.
    The distances are 7mm, 10mm,15mm and 20mm.
If you enjoy my videos and would like to see more you can support my channel thru purchases at my shop www.etsy.com/shop/turtlesoupbeads
Unfortunately videos not only take many hours of my time but have actual production costs involved I prefer to keep my videos free for all and greatly appreciate all those who support my channel through my shop - thank you
I purchase all the products I use so I can give a honest and unbiased review .

I love the Marxit tool but because its so expensive to ship overseas making your own is a affordable alternative
you can still purchase a Marx it tool in the USA from www.prairie craft.com
    - I made this video for viewers outside the US

yes this tool is available from www.prairiecraft.com but its not available in all countries and not everyone can afford the shipping so this is a inexpensive alternative

@@RameyRocks Hi, I saw your comment one one of Susan Baily’s videos (aka Turtle Soup Beads) and wondered if you would be willing to sell your Mark it tool to me. I can’t seem to get one anywhere and it would make my polymer clay craft so much easier! I live in South Australia, which by definition is the poor country cousin of the eastern states! Hope this request doesn’t offend you, only that I’m desperate to get one of these tools. Please message me back either way. Obviously I am willing to pay P&H, in USD$ plus full cost of course, all I would need would be and address where to send the transaction. I’m genuine about this offer or as we Aussie’s say ‘fair dinkum!’

Susan, one of the great things about your channel is how you conserve resources when you are able. That is so nice especially for us retired, older folks on limited incomes. I have watched other channels, but when one cannot afford to just go buy this tool or that tool, it is refreshing to know someone out there recognizes that and has an alternative. Thank you! 💖🌷💍💎

FYI, Susan, if you want to get the curvies out of your wire...stretch it...pulling the wire will not only straighten it, it also "work hardens "the wire...aka...stiffens the wire which makes it "hold" any shapes formed with it...just some tips and tricks from an old silversmith (who also loves polymer clay!).

Gosh thanks so much!! This is awesome! I'm going to make some. I'd been wondering about that marks-it tool you'd been using. I figured I just needed to run into the right video. I was right! 😁 It kills me to see you got your wire clippers for a buck or two as I got mine when I started beading and it was more like $10 but I've gotten my money's worth. By the way, if you ever use memory wire, there is a special cutter as that wire is much much thicker than other wire. Memory wire will destroy the blades on those blue cutters you have. Thanks again!!

Today we made the Marxit tool, well sort of. We used a ruler instead of cardboard. I have sheets of PVC and 20g pipes I could use and I still might. I showed hubby this video and an Etsy account picture as well as Fire Mountain Gems website images and decided on using cheap dollar store rulers. We used dollar store Super Glue to place the wire. I wanted thinner wire so we used 22 gauge and I intend to make a sample of each size because, I am very visual, for quick reference for each ruler. I thought of gluing them to make the hexagon but nah, why make more work? I haven't done it yet but I will be putting a keyring through the ruler holes to keep them together. I have a problem with losing stuff easily because I am a bird brain, so this is my answer. They will hang on the side of a parts drawer set, right at the back of my table. Yeah!

Hi Susan, I just watched this video as I am trying to set up my studio with limited funds. This is a great tool and a wonderful invention! Thank you!
I have a couple suggestions and requests.
    1. I can’t cut thin slices of cane evenly. The cane cutters are so expensive. I looked at a couple videos for homemade cutters but they fell short of my expectations. The miter box one has promise but there’s no way to make sure each slice is identical to the next one. I love the cheese cutter idea and was thinking maybe a mandolin? Any thoughts?
    2. I also see people mounting the baked pieces on a tube or straw to resin them. How do they do that?
    3. Many clay artists will say “bake at recommended temp for X time.” But X time I’d always different. Is there a formula?
    4. Lastly, you said on one video for beads that you bake on a t shirt. Other people use paper. All of these items are flammable. How are they not catching fire? Is there a nonflammable option? I do animal rescue so there are a lot of critters around. A fire would be devastating so I need to be as cautious as possible.
Thank you! Can’t wait for more videos!

The problem is i have many overseas subscribers and the shipping alone can be almost $20 and they needed a alternative that was affordable .

Firemountaingems.com sells em pretty cheap. Search on rulers grey, or product number H20-3520TL It comes in a plastic case with a metal ruler.

IMO making a marker with polymer clay would be easier...

I love this. I have been searching for that tool and I finally found it on prairiecraft.com for $9.99 plus $5 shipping so I ordered it. Then I open up youtube and here's your video on how to hack it. Like, directly after ordering. Oh, well! Thanks for trying to save me $15 bucks. LOVE your tutorials. I have watched and tried most, my husband calls you the clay lady!
