Great video. To help remove lines, I use two plastic sheets. I bought laminating sheets at the Dollar Tree and, sandwiching the clay between the sheets, run the sheets through the pasta machine
I had the same problem and it got worse the thinner I rolled my clay. I solved this by adding a thin plastic layer on each side of my clay, (kind of a clay sandwich). Then rolled by pulling the plastic layers from bellow. This kind of suggests that the problem may be caused also due to clay adherence to the rolls. Would be cool to know if this solution helps others with the same problem. P.S. Thanks for sharing what you do! Love it.
Great video, I've just ordered my pasta machine, in green. I have just begun with jewellery making and find your advice most informative and easy to understand, thank you.
Hi Cindy! Ruthie here in western New York State USA. One clay artist suggested using a piece of plastic or paper when rolling our clay and it helps eliminate or lessen ripples in the clay. Just thought I’d share that tip. Thanx so much for all your wonderful, instructive tips and techniques in your videos! I’d love to meet you some day. I’m a “newbie” to polymer clay and would feel lost in a gigantic world without all your help! Thanx so much! A true fan! 😉😊😘
Hi Ruthie, how lovely to hear from you! Yes you can use plastic sheets to help minimize roller lines, I have some sheets from LucyClayTools made specifically for that purpose. They work great for those tissue paper thin sheets that you can make from translucent clay that practically disappear on the surface. It can be a bit of a pain to separate the clay sheets from the plastic sheets though, so I only use them when I really have to. Thanks so much for commenting! I am happy to have been able to help you on your claying journey! ❤
Mine makes lines on the thinner settings. I've pulled and rolled... rolling on the thinner ones is quite hard btw. is there a way to adjust the gears or rollers or will use of the thinner settings finally get the lines to go away?
Cindy, I have a question about the different types of clay, I've always worked with Kato clay which is a very firm clay and has to be conditioned a lot in order to soften it up enough to work with. I decided to try some Premo and when I conditioned it, it got so soft it was hard to work with. Or at least that's the way it felt to me. Do you not have to condition Premo as much? Which clay is best for jewelry making?
Cindy I Love your Videos... I get so much advice from them .. I start my day off with my Toast a Cup of Coffee and "Hi Guys"! I love you, Respectfully of course :-) My own point I want to leave is, I get much better results when thinning Clay by using the advice you gave, to use playing cards.. I use a Ceramic Tile and playing cards and grease paper to flatten my clay to the desired width.. I learnt that from you and will be forever grateful - (Gets on knees and starts Crying, saying 'thank you' repeatedly, gradually Muttering words too quiet to understand, then gets up and walks away ) Dremel !
LOL no problem and I had my funny Hat on, now I feel DAFT!! :-) its true about the Toast and my morning ritual though.. I'm practicing every day, with very little procrastination, because of my ritual.. Anyway Cheers Cindy you're a Star :-)
I'm brand new to clay. Watched a lot of clay making videos. After you've conditioned the clay and it's really, how long will it stay ready to use and storing it in a ziplock baggie? How long does it stay conditioned an do you have to recondition it again as many times? Many many thanks for all the knowledge you have given. Worked with resin for years. Thank you
Hi I was wounding if you have done a video on conditioning your clay to much . I thing I might be doing this . But not to sure . I feel really silly in asking this question. I have seen video on how to condition your clay but not how to tell when it conditioned and if you gone to far . Hope that make sense. Thank for all your hard work . Love you video. And I will be getting the neverknead very soon xxx
Hi Cindy! First, I want to say how much I appreciate and enjoy your tutorials and tips on here. They've helped me through a lot, especially when I was first starting out. Secondly, I have a question about my machine. I have an Amaco brand rolling machine. Now, I purchased one from Amaco about two Christmas's ago. It broke on me within a week of using it (I've been doing clay for 6+ years so I know I'm using it correctly), so I went out and bought another beccause I didn't have time to fuss with it at that time. So, Here I had two. One broken, and the back up ended up breaking within a few months. Now, after all that money put into them, I contacted amaco and they claimed that they'd never heard of the machines having the issue that I Had with them. One of the rollers had become dislodged from the bolt on the inside and therefor was no longer staying put when I rolled clay through. It would always pop out of place once I began rolling. The other, had simiilar issue and the knob on the end that controls the settings had come off, with no ability to reattach. There is a bolt on the inside of that knob that apparently cannot be manually fixed. So anyways, Amaco was really good about replacing both of my machines (but I had to pay shipping-which wasn't cheap) for both of them to be sent in to them. I'm not even kidding, two months later, the one broke-same issue with the roller popping off it's place and not fixable....and now my second one, again with the knob breaking off and unable to adjust settings again. (Sorry for the novel lol).....My question is, is this common? I mean, I'm not usually using super hard clay, I use the softeners where needed and most of the time I have FIMO, Premo!, Sculpey III all mixed together into a modge-podge of different brands lol. So it's soft enough for sure. I don't know if it's just a cheap brand or what? I REALLY wish they would come out with rollers that were able to be taken apart so that we can clean them easier, as well as reassemble them if parts pop off. I'm becoming exhausted with returns over here lol. Is there a machine out there that DOES have these features? If not, I don't suppose you could write a letter to these companies begging them to make one? LOL. Seriously tho, Could you maybe do a video on comparisons of the different machines maybe? Would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read, if you get this far :) Keep up the wonderful work and great videos! Hi, Thank you for your helpfull videos!! I'm wondering if you can help me solve this mistery, hehhehe.. I bought the Atlas 180, It's leaving roller lines in all settings, just like the wrinkles you show on the sculpey machine on you video "Update Review Of Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine" It dosen't matter if it's on 1 or on 9 it still leave those marks. Do you think I should do something to make it work better, or should I just return it and try with a new one? Thanks again, you have been so helpful with my new polymer clay adventure ;)
Have you solved your problem? I've tried 2 different Marcato 150s and a 180. I've tried with and without the motor. At this point, I'm ready to return them all and give up. It's actually worse the thinner I go.
HI Very useful. I get lines on the thinnest setting I'm wondering I I've bent the cogs or something? If so that's the second pasta machine I've broken !!!! I'm so heavy handed !!!
This is a bit off subject. I am new to polymer clay. I was wondering can you just bake your pearls, beads, and wire that you put in the clay in your oven. I have a convection oven for baking if that makes a difference. Thank you Stacy
Hi! I'm always having trouble with clay staining/ the color running onto my hand and other pieces of polymer clay. I was wondering if you could do a video on how to prevent that. Thanks!
Baby wipes are the best way to keep colors off other colors- cheapest too- wipes hands, tools and surfaces between colors, especially reds and darker colors- no other real way to keep colors from bleeding. If you don't want colors to bleed during caning, use firmer clays like Kato clay or Fimo ( not Sculpey or the very soft ones- save those for sculpting and beading)
I just got my machine. Put some clay through it and was very sad that it came out with huge ripples. Any suggestions on that problem? I"m really bummed out that I have a new problem instead of a new tool to help me.
Did you ever solve your problem? I've got the same issue and tried 3 different Marcato machines, with each one worse than the one before. I've even tried it with the motor on, thinking it was my rolling style. Please help if you were able to figure it out.
Have you guys ever seen those industrial 3 roll annealers? They use them in paint and silicone production to continually mix the substance. Why don’t they make a tiny desktop version of that?
I have a brand new pasta that was altered so the blades are removable I ordered it from Mona Kissel. But the rollers leave skip marks in my clay I can't figure out what the problem is. I just got it and I can't even get a smooth piece on any setting. She sent new blades and it still won't work. Is it really just the gears. My other Atlas doesn't do this. I so frustrated
Thanks for the video. I am shopping for a clay past machine and would like to get your recommendation. Also, what does the lowest setting on your pasta machine equivalent to in terms of number of playing cards? Can it do one playing card thickness? Thank you!
Hi, I just wanted to tell you that I have been going through your video tutorials and love the tips and the vast store of knowledge you share here. Thanks!! \\][//
I was wondering how to get thick high shine on pieces, like ceramic style on the surface? any glaze to recommend? do you think u can take diamond glaze do get that finish?
That is a major design flaw. The gears should be engaged at constant distance at all times regardless of thick and thin setting and there should be a separate machanism that maks the asjustments. You can't have the actual gears moving in and out, this action will effectively eat away the gear teeth and eventually fail.
When I bought my atlas 150 on the lowest setting 1 it was so quiet. Now I makes a clicking sound which seems to come from the dial side is that normal? Thanks
hi, I have a machine similar to yours. I'm having an issue with the clay sticking, and tearing on my thinnest setting. It's brand new, so I know there is any clay build up in the scrappers. I thought maybe my clay was to soft, so I put in the fridge, but it still stuck and tore
Help! What does it means when my clay comes out ruffly at the sides and seems thick in the center when I am using a thin setting as a #7 setting? I have a brand new Atlas machine...

Try using some firmer clay and if it is still causing you problems, you may have to return it. I have seen it happen at places like Michaels where people will jam hard clay into a machine and wreck it... then return it. Not tell the cleark the machine is broken, and they put it back on the shelf, only for someone else to have problems. I am so sorry that has happened to you. My machine has worked wonderful for me. Hopefully you can get to the bottom of the problem without too much more hassle.
Alevtyna LaRochelle I have the same problem. I just got my atlas 150 wellness from Amazon and every single setting causes my clay to ripple. My cheap one from micheals never rippled at all. I just figured since I'm getting into polymer clay more that I should have a good pasta machine and I love the noise this new one makes lol. Not wax paper. Use parchment baking paper. Any food shopping store should carry it. Usually near the foil. I buy tons of it. Only parchment paper never wax.
I don't know... perhaps if you had cheap machines that didn't clean easily, you may want two different ones, but if it were me, I would probably just use one for both and just clean it well between types of clay. I am sure there are purists out there that would disagree with me though.

My favorite machine is the Lucy Clay Machine because it is bigger and has removable scrapers (I have a review on this channel) but this is still an excellent machine!
May you subtittle the videos in Spanish???Thx
always great info but why is baby always in the corner?? very odd angle trying to watch you and it seems there's never really any good close ups so it's hard to see what you are doing, just my lil ole opinion lol
