I watched a dozen of these videos and I think this is the one I’m going with. Seems secure, easy enough for a layman like me, and ends up giving me more places to store rods and other gear. Great vid
Love the design! Think i would mark everything & glue it all up for extra stability/strength. Been a Plumber all my life,so used to dealing with PVC,etc....
Heck yeah Jake!Exactly what we needed,a little chop cut rebuild, answered some questions i had for my little kayak aka stinky catfish.Super good info especially tags for the boat, never would have though of that. Thanks Jake
Out in surprise. Can weld up a mount for goal if ever interested. Made one for 2 tamaracks with foot steering and pwm motor controller. Clean installation and works well. Sprinkler drip line for cable sheathing. First "cable" was masonry string but only lasted 2 years. Going to use small cable next. 60amp pwm saves battery down on low speeds 35ah u1h last me all day on small lakes or half a day on bigger lakes. Half day 5am-noon.
Yeah the 60amp pwm allowed me to remove the head off the motor and remotely mount the switch and power knob. It also has a forward-off-reverse switch. I went 60amp for efficiency because the 30 amp got hot.
Yeah...I have a ...similar deal. It began w/trolling motor slung on side too. I certainly appreciate the budget as its also similar...wadda I got. I now steer with rudder (foot) pedals and control speed and reverse with a single rotor switch mounted on center console. With a PWM in line. It's a unit that extents battery use by twice anyways. Heads up. Even being plastic it's still a boat. Bust Out Another Twenty... BTW. The difference having motor mounted on stern is it actually behaves like a shock absorber when standing. Buffers the shaking... Your gunna have such a Blast....
Long term, how has this worked out? I love the simplicity of the design! No complicated mounting systems, cables, or actuators. For a quick DIY mount, i dont think it could get much better in concept. Any issues in uses that you ran into?
Willa Johnson the episode that’s posting tomorrow is a Bartlett lake episode. Might be helpful to you. it will probably be a couple weeks before I’m back up there.
@Daniela E I ended up doing the same and I'll have a new video coming soon of additional things I've done. My setup has come a long way since I posted this video.
After watching many videos of these diy motor hook ups I see that when you put it on the back there is MANY more electrical problems to deal with. The back would be better cause I assume when on the side you need to be wary of your steering.. be careful steering and no electrical work, the build is great
I plan on doing this to my sea kayak, but I am nervous now. I got a 55 lb Newport Vessels motor, and plan to do what you did. Do you think it will be as effective on a sea kayak?
@Andrew Collazo you will want to make sure everything is glued and you may want to embrace it with some straps. I have made a rear mount and I think it’s much better. I think it will work for you though.
@@GOALFishing yes I built a replica of what you made, but it seems fragile once the weight if the motor was added. I dont want to give up, but all of the weight is pressing down on the PVC pipe that is on the motors side of the kayak. When I folded the motor to test how it would do it was nearly pulling the rod holder out
@@AndrewJPlays mine held pretty good but after a trial run I put some straps on it and that made a big difference. With my kayak I was able to strap it from the mount to the seat and from the mount to the cargo net rings. Don’t know what you have available to you, but that might be an option for you.
@Dave’s Channel This design worked, but after a little bit of time on the water I decided to mount it on the back of my kayak. I had to use a steering shaft and pwm box to steer and control the motor but I like it a lot more.

@Justin Newton it worked pretty good. The tracking takes a little getting used to and I used straps to strengthen it up a bit after the first trial run. I then decided to mount it on the back instead. I share how I did that in this video here. ua-cam.com/video/7cXoEpGEeDQ/v-deo.html

@@GOALFishing Thanks for the quick reply! I meant at the T junction where you mounted your 2x4. Since it's just tightened to the PVC coming out of your rod hole does it slowly turn downward as you apply pressure by holding the arm of the motor plus the weight of the motor itself?

Question.. does the trolling motor throw off the balance of the kayak?
Is the 15” pvc height to much on the water? Or do you like the height? I’m thinking about making it lower
Great job I wish you had broken it down on cost of everything. It was definitely a good idea and I’m probably going to try it
The PVC maybe the most expensive parts !
I did this on my vibe skipjack but I had to put the pvc into the scupper holes
I’ve watch your video over and over. Why the need for adaptor?
after you mount the pipe in place, can you still take them out?
Do you have a link to a video of you taking this out on the water?
to be honest took me a second look .. cheers times three... also i use small budgie cords to hold the rods
Nice, but you mount the bracket of the motor mount the wrong way.
If you had of put the trolling motor on the left side, you would have freed up your right hand to hold a fishing rod?
About to do the same thing to my new yak
