A lovely instrument and good value proposition. This not the first Flight I've seen you review but the brand is among many I've learned about watching your reviews. Thanks for that!
Yes, it's the variety (named after the water buffalo) that's native to the Philippines and bears the larger fruits used for export. It's so ubiquitous here but I doubt it if all locals, especially the younger ones, are aware that it's called the Carabao Mango.
Thanks Baz and welcome back. Love the sound and again another well built instrument for the money. I like mango and haven’t seen a uke with it as back and sides only. Paired with spruce is different and works. Congrats to Alex and flight. Have a good week.
I just wanted to update my previous comment. I purchased one of these and recieved it today. Three things: 1. You can 't really understand how beautiful this Uke is until you see it in person I really was not prepared for how nice the Mango looks and how solid the entire instrument is. 2. The sound is just extraordinary, I appreciate this is subjective but it's just super clean, the intonation is perfect and I had a MISI pickup installed which just takes it to another level. 3. The setup of the instrument WOW! For a Uke I don't think I paid that much (relative to what I recieved).. You can see that whoever sent this out has spent (I think) hours installing the pickup, setting everything up perfectly. I feel like I have a new set of hands compared to my last Uke. None of this Basic, Intermediate, Advanced nonsense... One type of setup Professional and by someone who obviously really cared about me getting the most out of my purchase. One last point to Baz directly :) Last year I argued with you stating my Cordoba was great value for money and you were saying that there are better Ukes out there for the money (this is a similar price without a pickup). You were 1000% correct. I love my Cordoba as it's one of my first proper Ukes and we've had some good times :) But really you were right.. more than right. Anyone looking for a professional sounding Uke in this price there is a reason why this got such a high score. I don't have the experience to know how this compares to K Brands. But it's hard to imagine that this is not all the Uke you will ever need.
So great the hear your review a week after mine arrived. Totally agree with you on this one after giving it some play. It replaces my Pono mango tenor and I’m very happy about the replacement.
I bought one of the baritone models and it is superb. Sounds really good and the workmanship is top class. I also have a Flight Phantom tenor and that is also top quality. The top Flight range really do love up to the good reviews.
Great review Baz. I love the big dot on the 12th fret. It'll really help find the harmonics. When I eventually make my pilgrimage to that store, this uke tops my list of what to try
Great review, Baz! Good value for a nice ukulele! Yes, the previous comment was correct. I have a Filipina fiancee, and in the Philippines, they call water buffalo Carabao! But, they don't sound this nice and they weigh a bit more. :)
Flight just keeps getting better and better, and they keep on topping themselves. Love seeing it. This one, really had no chance of being bad, with Alex involved, too! Glad to hear your daughter is doing better!
Indeed an amazing ukulele 😊 There is one thing I wish about your reviews. Spend 20 to 30 seconds extra, to show the gigbag, when included. Is the zipper of decent quality? Is the fabric thick or thin? Is it one or two straps, or no straps, etc. A good or bad gigbag is the difference between success and catastrophy when travelling. Anyway, Thanks for a very nice review ❤
I just sold on my Pono Deluxe Mango Tenor to get one of these. I adored the Pono, but it was holding back on me. The Carabao looks like a serious instrument to me. Im hoping the spruce will turbo charge the Mango. Last time i had a spruce top Uke it was a Soprano and it sounded more like a Banjo. Fingers crossed Alex has done his magic and this will be spot on. UPDATE. Yep indeed this is a fantastic Uke at a fantastic price. I think it comes with D'addario Titanium strings (not 'Titano nylon' as it says on the SUS website), but is crying out for some proper Nylons.
A little light in color for me but looks real well done. I like the bindings and gloss. I like the head because of the back facing tuners. Love the neck and markers on top side. The set up looks good on the TV at least. Sound is excellent over all but maybe just a little to bright for me. 😂I am not copying what you are saying in fact I just typed this seconds before you gave your opinion. I really like this one. Flight is really coming on in the ukulele world. Hope your daughter is back to herself and as usual thanks for a thorough review… DOC
Welcome back! Just realized one thing, UKE names and model numbers all sound like planes or something like a new tank or something! Impossible to know them all .. Are ukulele names usually just the names abbreviated somehow down and but what do usually the rest mean? Ehm could you maybe do a mini video about this uke name gibberish I am wondering about now as they simply do not make any sense to me personally. Thank you for great content.
Ha ha - yes they do - and I hate the long winded ones - yes they usually signify something - with this the SUS store don't use the T-SUS name - just go with carabao - which is cooler.

Great review. I adore mine and it has nearly cured my UAS however I fancy a Phanton or a Mustang to go with it. When flight are producing ukuleles of this quality it almost seems like madness to spend anymore.
Was pretty obvious it had to be a Flight when you showed the headstock, even from behind lol. Looks like a really nice uke. Fortunately for me though, Spruce tends to be rare in that I both don't like how it looks or how it sounds. It's too bright and jangly for me, and often looks like mismatched plastic. Makes shopping easier. Just avoid the Spruce! But I'm sure other people will absolutely love this.
Had the funniest thought. You know when you have that small tag coming up on your videos "buy me a coffee" well it hit me to respong "No because I bet you would use that money to buy a ukulele instead" who needs coffee in their right mind when there are ukuleles about? I swear when I lived in the Philippines the water buffaloes used as draft animals were called carabao. But now I find out it’s a tree as well.
Apparently so - news to me too!

Soprano is coming next year at some point...

Just purchased mine today off the back of your review :) Looking forward to receiving it.. thanks for all your input 😎
Hope you enjoy it!
Pure class! Sounds WAY above its price.
Very classy - in fact I think one of the classiest from Flight yet
The only drawback to those very nicely done position markers is presumably if you’re left handed… Couldn’t see any dots along the opposite edge.
No - definitely a rightie. Eternal issue in uke world. It's bad in guitars too - all about cost benefit I guess. Shame
I am left handed but have always played right handed, did try left handed guitar years ago, felt really strange!

You'd have to ask Southern Ukulele Store - they are the only ones who stock it
The twist in the neck grain is a bit concerning, could mean nothing, could mean the neck will twist as the wood ages. Time will tell.
Doubtful with it being jointed
What’s on the head of the headstock?
QC sticker - removeable
