I’ve been using GarageBand for years and I’ve always wanted a way to move the alchemy synth pad separately after recording. Having watched this, my productions will be so much better. Thank you lord pete, you are the ultimate GarageBand guru!🙌🏼
Cheers my friend. Appreciate you taking the time to let me know. I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
It's a shame you can't do this 'live' merge recording when using Plugins...e.g.the Apple AUNBANDEQ.. I have merge recordings on, hit the record and play with my sliders on low pass... rather than the buttons like you do in alchemy synth.., unfortunately it doesn't record the live-changing you're making like it does in the alchemy synth😢😢😢😢 and yes John your videos are awesome and I subscribed after watching the first one month ago😊❤
Thanks for the kind words. Happy creating and I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
As with all your videos Pete I always learn something new. I use alchemy synth A LOT In my compositions and recordings and I always adjust the dials and pads to get the sound just right. However, I never knew I could use merge recordings to essentially alter the dials in real time, so you opened up a whole new world to me. Fab guy 👍🤩🙏🏼 xx ps My only gripe about alchemy synth is that the dials vary from one instrument to another and it is not possible to add or change the dials, there are some really useful dials on some instruments that I wish were on others
That makes everything so clear. Recording the bells and whistle effects in the same time line at a different time. I'm wondering, Pete, if there is a similar trick when it comes to plugging in a guitar because I can plug in a guitar into an amp on ipad garageband and make it wah with the wah wah pedal in the amp section. I can even record the wah and make it wah wah. What I can't do is record the guitar and the wah wah because it does not have the option to record the same time line at a different time. I hadn't paid too much attention to Alchemy Synth, but now I know how to use it. Good show!
Yeah so that one dodgy wah effect nuts doesn’t work with any real audio tracks of real guitars - only virtual. You’re better off playing around with something like MixBus or Amplitube and use the auto wah. ua-cam.com/video/iDuZzFdnWrg/v-deo.html
Pete you are a Master Guru of Garageband. I'm still waiting for Logic Pro X for the Ipad which is taking a long time to come. What have Apple developers been doing? aahhh... I'm tired of waiting 😫
You can also mute all sounds not needed and or wanted…then with the GarageBand fx ,record that one instrument with fx,then copy by saving to files…then bring the instrument(s) back in original recording ..so in essence you can single out an instrument using GarageBand fx for your tracks..
Gooday. Nice use of the green screen in the bowling alley in the intro. Did you use blender or davinci resolve? Thanks for the heads up in garageband because I did not realise there were more buttons. Good tut!
I love alchemy synth sounds but since GarageBand has that annoying auto normalization I’ve been mostly using Cubasis 3, ( i know you can lower the volume so it doesn’t affect that much but i can still hear that it doesn’t sound as good as when you’re hearing it on GarageBand ) Alchemy synth is one of the things I’m excited for if Logic Pro arrives to IPad (pretty sur Logic Pro won’t have auto normalization )
In one of Petes amazing other videos he tells us that if you had an Fx track (even if you don’t have any Fx recorded )then that stops GarageBand normalising normalising
@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you so much for your reply Pete, I use Logic Pro for iPad and I was able to use the MIDI Modifier to learn some knobs of the Arturia Minilab 3, however I am unable to make the transport keys work. I have tried several configurations. Any ideas?
Thanks for a great video. One thing I can't find an answer to is whether it's possible to fine tune the pitch of Alchemy sounds. Quite often I've found that when it comes to adding a second or third synth sound they are frustratingly out by a not-quite semitone. Are there any ways to fine tune pitch of an Alchemy synth sound eg by increments of 'cents'...?

Cheers Tom. Very welcome my friend.
I just found this out today and as I use G.B. A lot, and was wondering where this function was. It will take us to the level of supa producer in days
Very insightful Pete I really appreciate 🙏🏼🤩

Ladies and gentlemen the one and only Pete Johnson
Haha! I strangely got teased with the phrase “Peter Johns had no John” back in the day… I think they meant Johnson? Kids are weird man.
@@PeteJohnsMusic you may not be Pete Best but you’re the best Pete

Whhhaaaatttt! You can record just the knobs??? Been wanting to do this for months, never found anything online. Video of the year!
Nice! So glad it helped my friend.
I was looking for a way to automate Alchemy and your video nailed it! Powerful tool!! Like your laid back video style...thanks Pete.

Learned a couple of new things. I didn't know you could scroll over to more settings and the merge function is a great tip. Thanks, Pete!
Yeah apparently a lot of folks hadn’t discovered this. Very glad it helped.

Yup. I hear that. I like the individuality and customisation but I too sometimes wish for more consistency.
Just know this had me screaming in my home. First time I’ve seen this.
Nice! It’s cool isn’t it?
Thank you i been looking for a video like this for a long time! Only a doubt: really there isnt any “normal” automatization in garageband for ipad? 😩
There is volume automation which you can check out here - ua-cam.com/video/4VbIYR1hVcU/v-deo.html

Can you please make a video on Indian instruments VSTs for garageband iOS.
GarageBand iOS doesn’t support VST and there are some AUv3 plugins for instruments but not too many Indian instruments. studiolivetoday.com/freeau
Sir please help how to use sound library’s sounds in a project or new composition???

I didn’t know it’s possible to record just effects on top of old recording. Does it mean that multi record stores each version of the recorded clip?
Unfortunately it just combines them all so it does mean you don’t have much control to edit afterwards except to undo the last layer.
Which models of iPad are 64-bit? Oh, never mind. My 7th Gen apparently is 64-bit, since I'm using Alchemy Synth.
Yup. Pretty much any that run iOS 15.
Does that blue particle effect on your cursor exist in Alchemy, or is it something your mouse is set to produce?
It will pop up when you are using Alchemy.
@@PeteJohnsMusic I guess I haven't used the "windows" in that page.

Yes. You can try the volume lowering but I hear what you’re saying Victor. Logic Pro with the full Alchemy on iOS would indeed be next level.
I noticed your metronome is off. Is there a setting somewhere that disables it, so I don't have to hear it?
Hey there. Yup, just tap the metronome and it will turn off. ua-cam.com/video/i1yfmjEOdjM/v-deo.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic Yeah, I do that, but then I have to keep doing it every time I record a track. I was hoping for something a bit more "permanent."
Hey Pete, is there a way to know what is the MIDI CC for the knobs on Alchemy Synth? I want to map them to my Minilab 3
GarageBand doesn’t have this option at all sorry. You might need to try Logic Pro for iPad. Http://logicipad.com/

“Just a minute, I’m playing with my knobs”
