This is one of the last videos I made, before switching to using Ozone about 6 months ago and now I want to go back and re-mix it! To use a hideous phrase, it's been a total 'game changer' for me. Anyway, this is still a cool pedal. I used it how I would actually use it, that's to say in the background of a track. In hindsight maybe I should have gone full flange, but it is what it is and you still get isolated examples anyway. Ben

I am holding my boss BF-3 while watching this with a confused face 🙂

Ha! Do you mean that the BF-2 has already got a reissue and that it's the BF-3? The BF-3 is digital, this is analogue. Is that a big deal? Nah not really but there are subtle differences in tone (would you notice if the drummer was smashing seven f'ing bells out of his kit?!) and BOSS have re-released everything else at this point, thus my 'maybe time for a reissue' comment. In my experience, the MXR Flanger is the Eddie Unchained Swoop. I never used it for the other noises when I had one. I do remember finding the BF-2 infinitely more versatile. There are times I even prefer it to my ‘83 Boss CE-2

Interesting! I know Jeff Healey used an mxr flanger early in his career, but I'm not really looking for that swishy, swoopy thing. All roads are leading to a Neo instruments ventilator, but damn they're pricey.

I had one of those. My very first effects pedal. I still regret selling it to this day!!!

Nice! My very 1st effects pedal was a Boss TU2, I received for Christmas from my parents (what were they trying to say?!) Anyway, I still use it!
Ash was selling this one by the way, as he had two. I made this video so long ago though, I'm sure it's probably gone by now.

Aaaaand just like that flashbacks of The Police and Andy Summers somehow creep in!
    😉😉
BTW I had a BF2 on my pedalboard in the 80s with a band and there was no PA guy or audience member who didn't hate me - it was like this hoovering, helicoptering swoosh of seasickness overpowering even distortion, fuzz and cymbals!
    😱
Your "Dirty Flange" example at 3:46" has EXACTLY that dangerous tone.
    ⚠️
BTW 2 if it's good rotary/Univibe-like tones you're after, absolutely DO find & buy a Danelectro CoolCat Vibe, the turquoise green/blue one... excellent, small, rugged and astonishingly inexpensive!
    👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Ha! That's fantastic. It can be pretty overpowering. I know I said in the video that I couldn't think of a song where I'd use that sound, but I'm sure I could use it on everything if I put my mind to it! I did that with that wah pedal I tried a while back. Literally every song, ha!
Interesting, you know the only time I've ever plugged in to a Danelectro pedal was about 15 plus years ago, when I briefly worked in a music shop. I think it was a bad era for them, I remember them being very cheap plastic horrible things. I've never given them a chance since. I'll see if anyone I know has one.
      Cheers, Ben.

The BF-2 is, in my opinion, the Boss pedal waiting to be expensive. Can still get the old Japanese units for sensible money and they are so versatile. As well as what you showed, you can also run the speed fully down and use it as a notch filter with the manual control!

The only thing that stops a lot of Boss gear being too pricey, is the sheer number they produce. Couple this with the fact they're indestructible and so all of them are still out there, it makes for good value on the used market.

Time indeed, but only if it’s a through the whole version completely analog

Not a flanger guy, but a flan guy, yes I am 😁

Ha! There are subtle differences between flanger, flange and flan. All I know is, you shouldn't eat flan or flange that is purple like this flanger.
