Alex you're the man for sharing this info. Wish I had these videos when I first started, would have saved me hours of frustration and some dollars. Hope all is well, this is great content keep on keeping on.
I’m glad to hear you say you taper your leader on sinking lines. Ive been doing it for a while now and definitely prefer it. Love the new info you are putting out here!
Yeah, man. I’m with ya. Not only does it turn over better, but I like having a weaker point in my leader in the event of break off. Just trying to minimize how much junk we leave behind in the water.
Great job on the videos! They have been very helpful on numerous situations. Glad to hear touch on the smallmouth stuff as well, so many forget. Keep em coming!
These videos are so great, I watch every one of them and pretty much only fish streamers (drys if they are hitting) and I have put down more big fish since I picked up the streamer then I could have imagined, last week I had a day where I caught 3 browns over 20" all on a streamer I tied/designed! Thanks for being that teacher when there is not much else on youtube going into such detail on how to catch these fish.
Might be worth a future on water video, but curious about tips to deal with / fix twist in your line when streamer fishing all day. So far yelling at my line seems to have little effect...
Alex check out the 8’ hardy zane 8wt, its a mid flex rod, my favorite boat rod by far, wish they made it in a 6 and 7wt. Also the old scott heliplys in any weight are incredible shorter rods!
I used the Alberto knot to splice long flouro shock leaders (60-80lb mono) to braid in saltwater in place of terminal tackle. It works as Alex says. That said, is there a reason why you would choose it over a tippet ring when dealing with a relatively short piece of tippet, which will be eaten up rather quickly with fly changes? Alberto knot is not complicated, but not as easy as dealing with a tippet ring. Appreciate all of the info.
On small streams, say 10’-30’ wide, how long of floating line leader would you use for a floater and on a type 3 sinker? I’m using stuff like headbanger sculpins for the floater and dungeons on the type 3 and sometimes floater. Haven’t had much of an issue with the rio predators, but am not fishing super heavy current either. Thanks for the info!
The leader length would really depend on how deep I wanted to fish. With a floater or type 3 and a heavy weight fly, a longer leader will get you more depth. Shouldn't matter much in 1 to 3 feet, but if you're trying to dredge, you might want to go to 7 to 8. Not so long you can't cast it, but long enough to get the desired depth
I haven't use the crux. I'll try to get one from my rep to play with. I'm guessing it's an old sage blank and a resin they have replaced. The R8 is all the newest stuff they've developed or have found to use
Awesome advice, love it. The Rio Striper has been kind to me, great line. Maxima Chameleon for sure! I've also used Berkley Big Game in a pinch. It's so damn tough however, you're dealing with more memory than Chameleon.

Larry, good to hear from you. Everything is good on my end, hope the same is true for you

For someone who lives in the area and fishes the same rivers, these videos have been great. Certainly have given me some new techniques. Thank you!
Good to hear. Hopefully it can be applied all over as well

I'm hoping tp get out and do a little more river smallmouth stuff this fall, ill definitely be doing some on the lakes

Good to hear! I like the streamer thing unless I can get em dry. I'll take my lumps on rough days for the good days. It's just a mindset
Great tutorial
Thank you
Love this stuff- thank you, Alex! Please keep it coming.
I'm working on it. Need to get some more on the water stuff by the 2 guys I do things with have been out of commission for a bit
I really appreciate your sharing your knowledge. Thank you.
Good info, thanks!
Sure thing!

Take the fly off your line. Cast, downstream, as much line as you can. It’ll straighten out.
I tried that for years too, same result. Good idea for a video
Great info. Love it.
Thanks Austin
Alex, I have a question. When using a swivel, where do you prefer to put it. At the fly line leader connection or in the leader itself?
Between the butt section and tippet. So on that tapered leader between the maxima and carbon
@alexlafkasfly-fishing9088 I don't usually use one but have been thinking about it to help with twisting. Thanks a million.

That's good to hear, ill see if I can track one down
Awesome info as usual l. What was the line cleaner you recommended? ..nice job on the amz links too
Thanks
Russ peaks line dressing
Great stuff

Not really, just never used the tippet rings. It'd definitely make the butt section of the leader last longer

@@alexlafkasfishingalso, which type 3 line do you recommend for a 7wt? I don’t think that SA line you were talking about has came out yet
@@tf3876I haven't looked for a bit because I've got a handful of the sa ones. Let me chat with russ and see if he knows when those will be out.
Do you have experience with the reddington crux? I prefer it to my buddies R8 it’s a slower rod. Close to the same price point
