We were just chatting about you on a Facebook page for Fly Fishing North Georgia. Someone posted a picture of your bumper sticker and asked what it made us think of. Great stuff, Dude! Thanks!
I almost every time start the day with a streamer, easy way to tell what’s going on and cover some water. Shallow ,deep, fast, slow, varied usually that’s enough to get a good read. Then I adjust. Nymp or whatever it takes. More times than not the streamer stays on unless it’s just not working. Great video!
My best tip would be that this winter/spring transition period is a great time to downsize for bass. I caught a 3lber on a size 16 wooly bugger jig the other day, and I've had similar experiences the last couple years, getting some of my biggest fish on streamers in the size 12-18 range.
Thanks for your great videos. I got a question that I am not sure the answer. How can you remove slack an been able to mend the line. The thing is to stay connected to the fly for possible strike. Slack vs mending.
When you are mending on a downstream presentation you are usually not introducing slack unless you mend way too much. Usually it's more accurate to call it a lift and reposition than a flicking mend like you would use with a nymph rig although sometimes a flick is appropriate. Go watch some videos on how people throwing spey rigs mend and that might give you a better idea of how various methods of mending work on the swing.
Great advice! I fish streamers 100%. I’m in Texas and mainly after largemouth. Your bass sliders and Dedeauxs (you introduced me to his channel) are by far my favorites! Thank you, I really appreciate the help. We do stock some trout during winter..streamers (SlumpBuster) still my go to because they work. I focus on the color change, foam lines and eddies and most important for Huge bass..cover or structure. Thanks as always Ben..have Huge week! 👍👍🎣
Only been fly fishing since September last year and appreciate your recommendations and tutorials! Still learning how to properly cast a sink tip with streamers. Thanks for the great video’s!!
Tip for streamering: I like to put a bacon rind trailer on the hook, the green polka-dot works really well. Spray it with WD-40 after it's been in the water for a while.
Larger fish are lazy. The easier it is for them , the more likelihood of a bite. I like to almost dead drift with my fly doing a ferry across the stream so the ambush is easy for them. The less I need to pull them off their lie the better. Then again, I suck at fly fishing.
Am I supposed to take off my indicator with streamers? Am I that guy? I just assumed I should use one and definitely catch fish. But maybe it’s unnecessary?
You don't know what you're talkin about that's okay cuz I don't either and I do what you're talking about cuz I suck at fly fishing so at least we have company
The whole "you'll have to watch my other channel" crap annoyed me. Kinda leaning toward a sellout move....just sayin'. Don't post on UA-cam if you're going to pull that nonsense. Love you and your videos, but this is not good.
Out of all the times you’ve driven to work in the morning, has anyone ever taken the time and energy out of their day to flag you over, then gotten out of their car to tell you that you’re a sellout for trying to provide for your family? I doubt that has ever happened, because that’s something only an imbecile would do.
If Ben was the only one on youtube I could kinda of see your point but since its completely the opposite and most have commercials interrupting the videos and he doesnt and he spends only 30 seconds doing it I might revisit my thoughts. If anything let the ads play fully at the beginning or end so Ben can fee his family.
@@HugeFlyFisherman If you'd not included and then edited out the comments, and simply said that there are additional comments on your .tv site, then I'd never have gotten involved. I didn't so much call you a sellout, as merely implied that this particular move was not cool. I DO want you to provide for you and your family and I DO want you to continue to post UA-cam content, which is why I subscribe. Your stuff is great and I've always enjoyed it. I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. The comments section is for doing what I did, comment. I simply thought you'd like to know how I felt about this video.
I did not know that ads had to play fully for revenue to go back to the individual. I will “watch” the ads for 20 secs and support a channel like this. Keep going Ben!
Streamers imitate baitfish, when baitfish flee, they do it ALWAYS in a downstream fashion. Fishing streamers against the current as you suggested gives a very unnatural appearance, my bet is you are chasing more fish away than you are landing. I normally like your vids but that is some bunk info right there man.
Very bold of you to speak in absolutes regarding anything fly fishing. It shows your lack of experience. Maybe my streamer isn’t fleeing anything and it’s just out for a casual stroll.
@@HugeFlyFisherman I get what this guy is saying and I've heard the same thing before but when I first started fly fishing I thought streamers were meant to be stripped upstream and have caught plenty of fish that way. I like what you said about "feeling" it. Very easy to control the line and it keeps tension on it so you can really feel the strike. Fishing streamers downstream sucks and isn't fun to me.
I've caught a hell of a lot of nice fish bringing the fly straight back up the current below me after it has finished the swing. The fish are happy to ambush a bait fish swimming upstream past their lie.
Where did you hear that baitfish only flee downstream? This is a broad generalizion that simply isn't true. Through personal observations of baitfish being pursued by a smallmouth upstream through current, I'm pretty certain that baitfish will try to get the hell out of the way of a hungry predator by any means necessary. And either way, a streamer being fished upstream or hanging in the current probably represents an easily ambushed target, not necessarily a fleeing baitfish.
If you don't know who all those guys are he mentions at the beginning of the video, you are a fly fishing poseur and need to learn some history of the sport. Thanks for educating the youngsters, Ben. Right on the money with all the info, BTW.

Thanks for your reply. I know is confusing, but I guess in another 25 years I will figure it out.
Love the practicality and guidance of the knowledge shared. Thank you

Your drawings are hyper realistic. Definitely a future in art if youtube fizzles out.

That 80's intro jam is hitting
I go streamerering
The hill behind you looks so good for backcountry snowboarding

Hey Ben. How can “my friend” strip a streamer with a tenkara rod?
Great marketing with the "check out my other channel." Curiosity is a powerful tool! Very evil Ben. Well played
Every time I watch one of these I’m like, “I need a beer and I need to go fishing.”
Am I supposed to take off my indicator with streamers? Am I that guy? I just assumed I should use one and definitely catch fish. But maybe it’s unnecessary?
It works great under an indicator, I do it a lot.
Happy huge day everyone!
I throw my streamers to the middle of the river so the pesky fish don’t try to interrupt my retrieve.
The best part of this video isn't a tip about streamer fishing, it is the picture of Tobias crying in the shower. Thank you Ben!
Tobias? I thought it was Ben without his hat.
The drawing was an Orvis-quality visual aid. Thanks. Now I can more effectively huck meat.
Some nice butter-bellies at the start of this video...
think like a fisherman that thinks like a fish that thinks like an insect
Streamers, so hot right now.
Anybody happen to watch his special video or able to read lips and tell me what he said?
Came for the video, stayed for all the replies you made to stupid shitty comments

Interesting, helpful information in your videos but the beer in your hand is a major turnoff.Trying too hard to be a character.
1. I wasn’t trying to turn you on.
2. Miller Lite hardly counts as beer.
Is this the first time you've seen somebody drink beer while fishing?
