Thank you Pastor David for your wonderful explanation on Isaiah 53:5. My husband and I came out of the prosperity gospel/ WOF movement about 5 years ago. So grateful for your sound Biblical theology. So grateful to God for his mercy and grace in our lives. Very thankful for your teaching. My ladies Bible Study uses your commentary’s as well! Be blessed!
Though I would not dispute what you say about "By his stripes we are healed," I would not limit God to spiritual healing only. After the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, the Law is spiritual, not literal. This is the main reason the Temple was destroyed in 70 AD. After saying this, I know that Jesus continues to heal us physically TODAY. Jesus never stopped healing us physically and spiritually. He has the power to do both for us.
Jesus paid a debt he didn't owe; I owed a debt I could not pay! The manifestation of healing takes on many forms; sometimes in our bodies; others times in our minds and hearts.
Thanks for this insight Patricia White, truly indeed, we experience healing even psychologically, financially, maritally etc without us knowing the extent that our LORD JEHOVAH ROPHECA has touched to make us whole. Even restoring battered confidence is healing.
Jesus healed people physically before He died. His stripes came later so this scripture specifically refers to spiritual healing. He can do both spiritual and physical.
I understand Jesus took our infirmaties and sins upon himself on the cross for our salvation. The Spirit is in us as a deposit, a hold of the promises that come by our salvation. Among those promises are complete healing from All sin and All sicknesses when we receive our glorified bodies. God can do anything. He does heal physical sickness today as in Jesus day, for the purpose of bringing glory to him and to draw unbelievers to faith. No one is completely free from sickness today as of yet because we are still in the sin nature, our flawed bodies. When Jesus comes for us we will be changed to glorified bodies, incorruptible and immortal. Indeed nothing is too hard for God to do. Jeremiah 32:27. But He is working in us now and will continue to do so until completion at the day of Christ appearing for his believers. Then the deposit of promises in us by the Holy Spirit, including complete healing, will be complete upon our redemption.
Very well dealt with Pastor on this important theological question. These words definitely relate to Sin and righteous, not sickness and physical healing. This biblical promise will come after the Second coming of the Lord. Though people are physically healed todsy through prayer by Faith, but it should not be directly tied to the above words. It means many believers including clergy are understanding and preaching the Word out of context, which s a serious matter.
