  • Today I bring you "Christianity 101." These verses in Isaiah not only capture the heart of our worship team’s song, but they present the very heart of the gospel itself. These three monumental truths are the cornerstones of the Christian faith and show our need for Jesus Christ. Though the passage itself highlights many profound aspects of the person and work of Christ, I want to keep it simple and confine it to three. Let’s discover the love of God afresh.
    This teaching is from our series The War Is Over with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Albuquerque.

    The serum idea is a nice concept. However, scripture says we are dead in trespasses and sin. We have no ability to take a serum. Jesus himself said no one can come to me unless drawn by the Father. We are not cured, we are spiritually resurrected from the dead.

    I'm going to guess that nobody knows this part about that chapter.
    To God, a mortal person is 'plain' (unclean body) while a person in a glorified body (sinless body) is not. Jesus was in a glorified body for the 40 days after His resurrection, that is why His mortal body is referred to the way it is:
    Isa:53:2-3:
    For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant,
    and as a root out of a dry ground:
    he hath no form nor comeliness;
    and when we shall see him,
    there is no beauty that we should desire him.
    He is despised and rejected of men;
    a man of sorrows,
    and acquainted with grief:
    and we hid as it were our faces from him;
    he was despised,
    and we esteemed him not.

    How do we deal with sin?
    Yes it begins with confession of any sin to clear our conscience from the weight of it but we also have to make a final determination “by our faith” that we are dead to sin when Christ died!
    We need to make the final conclusion that Paul announced in the book of Romans and not to say, “I can’t deal with it on my own”.
    Check it......
    Romans 6:11-14
    Likewise RECKON ye also YOURSELVES TO BE DEAD TO YOUR SINS, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. LET NOT SIN therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. NEITHER YIELD ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but YIELD YOURSELVES unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”
    Grace en-powers us through “our faith” in the power of the “new birth” to say, “I no longer live but Christ lives in me.... I died with Christ and I rose with Christ!”
    Too much preaching is on the hyper-sovereignty of God and not enough teaching on a mutual cooperation with the Spirit of Christ living in us for victory!
    Without faith it’s impossible to please God!
    God doesn’t like it when we are self deprecating!
    God wants our faith to be applied in confession that if we sin we will be forgiven and that we will go on to use our talents in the Kingdom of God on earth!

    Did this dude really just say that "Isaiah captured the heart of Battledrum's song 'By Your Stripes'..."?
    I think it may have been the other way around sir.
    The song came 2700 years after Isaiah.

    I am challenging anyone to show me one verse in Isaiah 52,53 that would lead anyone to believe it is talking about the dead roman pagan man-god of the xtians, with a 100 million dollar reward if you find the verse.
