Exactly, we are singing to bless God and our praise to him is supposed to translate to him blessing us. Psalm 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabits the praises of Israel.
Actually that needs to be realigned too. Because we are worshipers thats what called us to be as well. And mixing secular with worship is compromising period. God looks at all of it because he created everything. Thats why he said worship me in spirit and in truth.
Music comes with a certain type of energy. Lauryn Hill said that she put certain notes in her music to arouse a certain response! . John Todd already told us that they put spells over the music before it's sold to the public. In the past artists used gospel music, like Ray Charles, Sam Cooke. Now artists today are following the world. We were supposed to be the light, not them.
The Gospel is NEVER objective and NEVER will be. God is a sovereign God that we should fear and reverence in a way that honors Him and His word, and the music we sing and listen to should reflect who He truly is not what want Him to be!! Period!
I'm fine with praise teams, choirs and devotional hymns (especially the old metered hymns). Do not bring secular music (even if it is just the beats) into the church because no matter what words you put with it, the original secular song will always enter into your mind no matter how hard you try to keep it focused on God. No need to co-opt secular music with gospel music.
As a DJ that does gospel blends, I am very conscience of the instrumental selections that I use for what I do. What most don't realize is that a lot of the popular gospel songs of old have hints of other genres... bottom line is the message conveyed and as long as a DJ is responsible in that, just let it be...
Y’all!!!! We cannot MIX the HOLY with the profane!!! We can have both world’s. We just can’t do it!!! I don’t understand the conversation here?? Is it necessary for us as black people to “pop that thang?” Can you get into the presence of a HOLY GOD and with secular music?
It’s not just music in the church. It’s praise and worship to honour God! The sound and lyrics should embody that. My Lord is a God of order. As Christian we cannot appeal to the world and trick or bribe folks to come to Christ. Let the spirit work, salvation is in Jesus Christ. He’s the only one that can retain someone’s attention and keep them in the church not circular sounding music.
I can understand what she’s saying about the word play in black gospel versus European gospel. Sometimes when I’m going through it, I do throw on a black gospel song because I just want to cry and hear “he’s able”. I don’t need a whole paragraph verse. However I will never knock down European gospel/modern gospel because I also really love those songs. Like the host said, I appreciate a blend.
This is one of the silliest conversations I have ever heard on this show. As Christians, we know already that everything that we do should leave people to God. (Let your light so shine) Music is spiritual, we all know that.. God can bring it anyway He wants too.. but it’s up to us to have the discernment as leaders because we are called to equip the saints for the work of ministry, building up the body of Christ. Not ever glorifying the enemy. I love ya, but come on man!!
People are preaching, singing and playing another Jesus! Why in the world would you use secular worldly music! It has nothing to do with older saints or younger saints! It has to do with your respect for a Holy God!
I miss choirs!! Praise team eliminate everyone who wants to sing. You have to audition and seems very very unfair, for people who just want to sing in the choir. You should have a team and a choir
Does the producer, his or her heart mean anything? If the producer is up in the studio making the beats smoking blunts, drinking etc Is it really only the lyrics? I don’t know fellas “Regarding: what makes a song Christian”
(1 Peter 1:16) Because it is written, Be ye holy for I am holy. So if God is HOLY do we have the authority to mix worldly ideologies into His church? NO! We are in church for conversion not to bring old things into the new man (Ephesians 4:24) We don’t need gimmicks to draw people to God. This can be triggering and stunt a persons growth and walk with Christ. So, we always need to be mindful of the context in which it’s done if it doesn’t bring glory to God.
They brought up the fact that they would rather have the gospel music as opposed to praise and worship. I love gospel music I have sung and gospel choir since I was young. I am 60 years old and I was introduced to praise and worship when I heard Ron Kenoly for the first time in the 90s, and I love it because it leads me into the presence of God. The music is there, to me, to help usher us into God‘s presence. To worship Him, to praise Him. If Gospel does it for you more and is bringing you into God‘s presence as they are singing, then I say that’s what’s for you. But everyone has their own preference. God and getting into God’s presence that’s what it should be about. I realize a lot of things that are done in Black churches are more traditional so some people like that and that’s fine. I am not one of those folks that is for mixing secular music with gospel music and thinking that will work because things get crossed up sometimes ultimately, it’s all about praise and God, and letting him get the glory.
It’s all about Jesus Christ, worship Him in spirit and truth to connect with Him, not entertainment. Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Secular and gospel music should NEVER mix!! Rather you in a church setting or club atmosphere. That's like walking on the curb and in the street at the same time. IT'S A NO FOR ME!!!
It’s easy to tell the ones in this video who want to continue in secular ways and still be accepted as spiritual! I heard a comment about caring about a generation. Let’s be real, It’s not about a generation of people, it’s all about God….or it should be! If we are truly seeking God, He will cause our desires to align with His! The fact that we’re playing something in the house consecrated to Him because we have to have our desires met is not very spiritual at all. Just leave the secular to the secular!!
It's not just the lyrics... it's the music as well. Your creativity of that "song" is based on your "memory inventory" of music. Beats move your body and elicit movements that are usually from what you learned in the world. The blues element of gospel is so old that we don't connect to it as worldly anymore. It's now too immersed in gospel music now. No, "sexual healing" would not be acceptable to me even though it was during my time.
Love this conversation. Could it be we're are triggered to easily and triggered to do what? I love old and new . It was Stephanie Mills version of, "Home" that bring me closer to where I belong with God. Is it spiritual or of the world? What draws to God is what works.
I’m imagining David and the Levites. Ain’t no way they doing mess like that playing with praise and worship like that. Where is the reverence to The Most High? That’s praising man (making them look at you) and not him when they play a worldly song at church like that. Smh
We need to stick to the formula that will usher in the TRUE presence of God. If true repentance of Sin is not the out come, it’s not powerful enough. Only the anointing and the TRUE presence of the lord will change a person inside out. The Holy Spirit led church teaching holiness, living holy before the lord. Preaching repentance, growth in the spirit and having the fruits of the spirit in operation. We know what to do, we just don’t want to.
I make Christ focused Hip-Hop Worship Rap, the majority of my songs were produced by Men of God and I think that matters. The beat was created with my lyrics and the Glory of God in mind 🙏🏼
As Gods chosen in Christ Jesus we have to use every opportunity we get to preache the gospel of our lord and savior Jesus Christ to the insaved and there are many ways to minister now we have to be creative, there are many gospel tracks out there , artist that industry is trying to sweap under the rug and silance. We as the saints of God have the opportunity to give these artist airplay and a platform we have to advance the Kingdom of God in Christ Jesus.
Man. This was really good. You all made some good points. Personally, I feel like you should not mix the profane with the holy/sacred especially in a church setting.
“And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.” Mark 2:22 NIV I believe there is a middle ground that will meet lost souls where they are and still point them to Christ. Using a current style of music as a vehicle for worship is different from using a secular song in a worship setting. If the lyrics aren’t appropriate, it shouldn’t be sampled or played in sacred spaces.
I agree 100% with the 10:00 mark. It is very hard to put gospel lyrics over Sexy Red Pound Town. Now I don’t disagree that you can’t use other beats but some of these songs just carry too much perversion.
The real difference to a song that is supposed to glorify GOD is when it is inspired by the Holy Spirit, because the Word of GOD says that the Father is seeking those who worship Him in Spirit and truth. Anyone can put a song together and call it gospel--even record it and put it out there and it be sung in Church. The difference is that not every song that WE think is true worship, it's what GOD says is true. True worship is used by GOD to touch and change hearts through the power of the Holy Spirit. That which is of the flesh (no matter how good it sounds) is flesh and that which is of the Spirit is spirit. That's the difference. Worship is about what GOD desires since He is the One that we're supposed to be worshipping. When we make it about anything else, it's empty and vain.
I don't think that style is the problem. Its all about the lyrics and the intent of the song. That being said, IMO we get enough of the world all of the time, as soon as we leave our house or our church. The church should be a spiritual safe haven not a reminder of the old man we were.
Gospel music did not evolve from Blues, it's the opposite. Other music forms copied original African American Gospel tones and melodies. Historically, worship music always was different than secular. The luminous was never mixed with the profane.
What about the secular songs that sample gospel. Ray Charles did it. If that secular song is rooted in gospel revive the original, and cover it gospel. IE, sang by a male, try female, or group. Or anything simple but new can revive without being secular. Music is wonderful and mailable.
Music is not evil; music comes from God. It's lyrical content that can promote evil but not music per sé. There's no such thing as an evil melody or a corrupt bass line.
If the sound doesn’t mean anything then just say the lyrics. The sound does draw you in secular or not to where some are saying lyrics that they do not understand.
With gospel/,God comes a spirit of reverence, humility, allowing yourself, your spirit to be open to allow the Holy Spirit in. When you mix the secular music, your mind goes to a secular place, behaviors, thoughts, actions. .... how many people listen to music and the beat hooks them. The words, even if they've been memorized and rehearsed, they really aren't paying any mind to the words and what the words mean or the effect it has on the spirit..... most aren't paying attention to the words coming out of their own mouths mainly because of the beat that hooked them Ex: I'm willing to have respect, carry myself in a certain way, adhere to certain rules and obligations in the workplace because I've accepted that this is how things are here. Some behaviors, words, actions that are acceptable outside the workplace are not acceptable in it. Even down to the way I dress and interact with others....why can't God or the house of the Lord, the place of worship have that Or when you go to a banquet, wedding, special even that calls for a certain style of dress, certain behavior, certain mindset, willing to refrain from certain things and speech.... why can't God nd his house have the same respect, acknowledgement, reference, awareness of thoughts, words and actions while in presence of that place.....
Google search meaning behind September. Did not fine writer saying it was a bad song our negative connotation behind it. Where did you get that quote or assumption?
I think there should a difference between secular and worship music. Catholics do this very well. The mass will be done in Latin, the songs will be call and response and if they want to have secular music, they will put on a talent show or extravaganza to foster community.
@@faithhouse6111 I would guess it would be thousands of years of tradition and assuming that most of the congregation had catechism classes, they speak passable Latin.
There is a difference between Christian written music of different styles vs bringing music that was written in a spirit that was not God-honouring and bringing it to the church. Why can't Holy Spirit filled artists create music instead of grabbing from the world. In trying to be so seeker-pleasing we've lost sight that God is a holy God and our purpose is to please Him.
Yeah but that’s the first time anyone has heard the new song. So if a secular artist samples that song, then the listener will reference your song if familiar.
I believe that there's a time and place for everything, including music. Blending secular songs with antichristian messages isn't best suited for a church setting. Using certain beats/styles to envelope gospel lyrics can be better but with limitation, especially considering the culture of the church. You can have songs primarily for church settings and other settings that point you to the message of the gospel without comprising the integrity of the message. If not, our worship to God is no better than Cain.
The music is to usher in the presence of God. I dont mind the new gospel, but i don't want to hear the songs that sample the secular music. Im like the lady in the clip, I may find it hard to focus on the song if the beat is Trillville. At a church picnic, maybe, but during service, i can't get with it.
Great discussion. The church, especially the black church has gotten away from truly glorying God. It's all about numbers and entertaining now. Church has turned into a business. We gotta get back to true worship. Seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit and ministering to people. Enough of the mockery, God is not pleased.
They've been mixing and dropping samples for a while in church in the middle of gospel. Not new. While I do believe it depends on the song and message it conveys. A little old school R & B is that so bad? All music belong to God. We taint it. We can use it to God's glory!
When you sample Parliament Funkadelic music for your Gospel song (i.e. Stomp - Kirk Franklin) I am not thinking about Jesus. It only reminds me of the original song and where I was and what I was doing... God is a creator, create something new! I like Christian rap (style) AND I like traditional choirs & praise teams. Just be original. What I believe is more of a problem is Christian music that doesn't Glorify God. The type of music that lifts up the artist more than the name of Jesus...but as far as style is concerned I llike them all, as long as it glorifies God! Just my thoughts!
There's à Christian sound but we are not in tune with that sound God has for his children. We need to stop trying to reinvent the wheel. God should be the focus period. To reach people is to presch the gospel period ❤❤
Melody is such a problem. It’s soo distracting, look how quickly she went back to her old ways with “What it is h**…. Wassuppp”. We should be worshipping with the hymns and with NON sinning/ problematic worshippers, too. Bc if they are sinning what is on them flows onto us. The spiritual realm is not a joke and we as a whole (Christians, not including race, like mankind) need so much restructuring, reteaching etc. Side bar: Sound does matter, and there are beats etc that the Holy Ghost can drop in your spirit then someone can create lyrics on. Bc some of those beats incantations were done on the beats andddd the lyrics theres no separation. Sound frequencies matter. I’m sorry y’all are riding tooooo much on the line.
We know music influences people. If they know the secular song it will remind you of the original secular song. It has no place in church. Come up with a new Christian song. Christian music isn’t supposed to be entertainment. It’s supposed to usher you into the presence of God. (Just my opinion)
Ultimately, God created music and man perverts that which God created. If someone never heard R&B, but the first time they heard an R&B beat was to the words of the gospel. How can that be worldly? That individual has no context of what is worldly but the first time they heard something that Christians call worldly they heard that beat under the Word of God. I think we have to stop placing our own struggles on what is holy. There was a time that people said you could only play certain instruments in the church to worship God…how dare we!!!Music was created by God and perverted by a fallen angel and that perversion was carried through by man.
If the lyrics of an instrumental would be in appropriate or even borderline for church, then it is WRONG!!! This is a slam dunk Biblical issue, Romans 14:13...🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Style isn’t the issue…the issue is mixing the profane thing with a holy thing.
Well said
That part!
Amen!!!!
I agree
FACTS
It’s simple keep the focus on God! They act like the word of God isn’t sufficient enough to draw people in and would rather entertain.
Amen.
John 6:44
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day”
We should care about holiness, glorifying God.
The point is to uplift and glorify God and who he is. That should be the focus of worship.
Exactly, we are singing to bless God and our praise to him is supposed to translate to him blessing us. Psalm 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabits the praises of Israel.
What's going on with us????? We need a realignment with our Lord. Not music genres. Help us Lord!
Amen
Actually that needs to be realigned too. Because we are worshipers thats what called us to be as well. And mixing secular with worship is compromising period. God looks at all of it because he created everything. Thats why he said worship me in spirit and in truth.
@ClarissaSimmons-sigacsmiley thank you for your reply. Let me be clear. If we allign the first the second becomes void.
@@michaelcleveland3997 That is true I agree. But I do like that they break it down this way so those that don't know the lord can understand as well.

As believers we should keep origin of inspiration high-key, and intension a low-key. But many have it backwards.
She has a point. I miss old school gospel with choirs. Music had a melody.
Kirk actually looked uncomfortable at first. Somewhat surprising

Your mind will go back to the original song.
It really boils down to the spirit behind the music. Does it glorify God.
The spirit behind the instrumental?? The instrumental existed before the lyrics and hooks were added.
@@faithhouse6111 no the person that brings the music. The chord C will be C no matter where it’s played.
Yes I miss choirs too
Went to the Reunion Tour last year, Kirk Franklin mixed in Mtume's Juicy Fruit with his song, Melodies From Heaven.
Good song but definitely has a sexual connotation😢

Google search meaning behind September. Did not fine writer saying it was a bad song our negative connotation behind it. Where did you get that quote or assumption?
That dude is talking about apples and oranges. It’s a time a place for everything.
I think there should a difference between secular and worship music. Catholics do this very well. The mass will be done in Latin, the songs will be call and response and if they want to have secular music, they will put on a talent show or extravaganza to foster community.
Why is the mass done in Latin? What language does the congregation speak?
Why is the mass done in Latin? What language does the congregation speak?
@@faithhouse6111 I would guess it would be thousands of years of tradition and assuming that most of the congregation had catechism classes, they speak passable Latin.
What’s the name of show that lecrae, nick cannon .. were on?
There is a difference between Christian written music of different styles vs bringing music that was written in a spirit that was not God-honouring and bringing it to the church. Why can't Holy Spirit filled artists create music instead of grabbing from the world. In trying to be so seeker-pleasing we've lost sight that God is a holy God and our purpose is to please Him.
You don’t need secular artists singing gospel songs. If people are not familiar with a song, go to church consistently and you will learn it.
No Sir!! No Sir… he’s apart of the problem.
The music is to usher in the presence of God. I dont mind the new gospel, but i don't want to hear the songs that sample the secular music. Im like the lady in the clip, I may find it hard to focus on the song if the beat is Trillville. At a church picnic, maybe, but during service, i can't get with it.
Mixture.
@2:27 Black people showing how lazy alot of us are concerning worship. Don't wanna sing the whole song. Just singing hooks. The World.
Most CCM and Worship songs are nothing but Coldplay, The Beatles, ans U2 song melodies
There's à Christian sound but we are not in tune with that sound God has for his children. We need to stop trying to reinvent the wheel. God should be the focus period. To reach people is to presch the gospel period ❤❤
Playing worldly music under gospel is demonic! Come on y’all you don’t even need discernment to know that. Different styles are fine though.
European? 😂 They've had choirs long b4 we did and still do. It's a pop choice cuz real good singers are sometimes hard to find to fill a choir
Unkle Luke warm music. We trying to sound like the world or what??
Listen, we ain’t never went to church because it related to what we did in the streets. Stop it.
We know music influences people. If they know the secular song it will remind you of the original secular song. It has no place in church. Come up with a new Christian song. Christian music isn’t supposed to be entertainment. It’s supposed to usher you into the presence of God. (Just my opinion)
Yall go to church that’s not holy???? Ew
Secular is not evil. It's non religious. And secular is broader than bump and grind.
