I got RDR as a gift in 2012 when I was 8 at my dads funeral. A family friend thought the game would cheer me up since I loved westerns. To say the least I got so into RDR I literally know everything…EVERYTHING. I disagree, the game holds up well as it is. Considering RDR2 on console is locked to 30fps just like RDR1 is, there's no point compromising the superior ragdolls and combat mechanics in RDR1 for that in RDR2. RDR1 is a different game, that doesn't need hunting mechanics or things like camp upkeep for you to go around hunting or other. RDR1 does great in all the areas that RDR2 had gone wrong. Now if RDR2 was re-designed to lose the nonsensical combat mechanics, e.g the near useless dive (compared to the RDR1 combat roll), straight shooting, no ridiculous reticle sway and exagerrated reticle bloom... then it'll be viable. Basically RDR2 has a lot to change in itself before it should ever be considered to be a port for RDR1. It couldn't even realistically port hardcore mode from RDR1 because RDR2 just doesn't have the means to have that (because RDR2 is a lacklustre 3rd person combat game, and RDR1 is one of the greatest 3rd person shooters of all time alongside Max Payne 3 etc.) It's not even all that outdated. It's very easy to get used to, simpler even than RDR2. Also, RDR1 multiplayer is massively better than RDO.
Exactly ! And these two games are two of the greatest of all time i know this saying is overused but i really really really mean it, like up there, like we will NEVER ever EVER experience new games created with so much love and care that could match this level during our lifetimes, RDR2 was probably the very last of its kind. The evolution of our now worldwide economic system ( capitalism ) can’ t allow it anymore, the beauty and cynical comedy is that, in this game and the second one, this is part of one of the most important overarching themes !
One of the rare times I welled up at a video game! The story... soundtrack... played it to the point where I burnt the disc out and went into the local Game to get it "cleaned"! Though the multiplayer felt like it had "less" to do, grinding out Tesoro Azul and Pike's Basin to the point where I knew every enemy placement was the usual after school routine... ah, I miss those days!

Wild to think that was 12 years ago already. I replayed it on my One X a few years ago. Couldn't believe how good it looked 10 years later. Everything held up. Such a classic. Easily in my top 5 games of all time.
One thing I love about RDR2 is the fame-system. Because it provides the ingame-world with some vividness: John Marston was a famous gunslinger in the RDR canon and was probably revered (not to mention the big flush of Dime novels in that era that gloryfied about every murderer of that time). So in conclusion, the fame-system makes the ingame-world feel so much more alive, because it suggests the feeling, that the people have noticed that John arrived, that he is a known quantity and theres much talk behind his back about him. I can only imagine someone sitting in a bar telling his buddy something he heard about John in town everytime I see that you gained fame-points.
Never had the first one but my older brother’s friend did, and boy, was I hooked. Never got to play it much but it led me to get RD2 which was quite possibly the best video game purchase I’ve ever made

I remember getting this game for Christmas 2010. I played alittle bit of undead nightmare before the main game. Even back then this game just had the feeling, an aurora if you will of current nostalgia at the time even though it just came out. From its art style, to the soundtrack to everything. There was literally nothing like this game. I still can still get to 100% completion because I know it like the back of my hand. And while rdr2 is also a masterpiece I prefer the feeling this game had. Probably the best Christmas present I’ve ever received.
Is it just me, or does the music in the first game sounds more heroic than the music in the second game. Like something you'd see on an old western movie.
This game was a HUGE part of my childhood as I live in Texas, EVERYONE was talking about the game at school and trying to find the "Loch Ness Monster".. ahhhh good times😔
I generally much prefer RDR1 over RDR2, but that's mainly due to the atmosphere. It feels more like the spaghetti westerns from 60/70s. Everything is just dirty, filthy, rundown and hot. Basically my ideal wild west fantasy. You're hering cattle, visiting small towns in the middle of nowhere, killing bandits and riding your horse across the desert. I simply love this game.
And for RDR2, I dream of an alt universe where the gang does manage to escape to Tahiti. The story could be more light-hearted similar to Citadel dlc in Mass Effect 3, and Micah gets forgotten about and left behind in Strawberry.
I also love this Game so much. In Fact, I prefer This over RDR2 just because of the whole Atmosphere, that always feels so soothing & cozy to me. It's definately Nostalgia, that makes me feel this Way tho. BUT: Is that actually so bad? I think, it says a lot about this Game, if we still can appreciate the Things, it got for us to offer. 😌
The moment when you're in Mexico, riding on your horse and " Far Away" plays. Change my mind, but that was one of the greatest Moments in Video game history.
When I was younger I would just free roam as Jack Marston on my dad’s 100% completed save game with my friend. We took turns playing, and we probably played it for at least a hundred hours in total just free roaming
I was 14 y/o when this dropped now I’m 25 an I spent some TIME on this game. The story and multiplayer was so great I can’t remember a happier gaming time
Honestly, early game RD1 is one of the highlights of my gaming experiences. Perhaps something to do with my age back then or what was going on in the real world around me but this game was a godsend. You said it - "homely". There was just something about the ranch and Bonnie McFarlane etc that captivated me. I loved it to pieces.
I’m taking a guess that with the first game, because Arthur didn’t exist, Johns lore was that he was in Arthur’s position, like the second In command, even if we wasn’t actually
My most dear RDR2 memory is playing multiplayer with my mates when we were like 12, running home from school so we could skype and play together on our PS3's, gamble, do missions etc. One time we rode the horse carriage in the dark and it was dark, so I said hol up and held up the dynamite who let out a light. 5 seconds lighter it was a huge explosion and we all died after doing the tedious mission of getting the horse carriage. Appearently the fuse goes down just by holding the dynamite in your hand, amazing detail. Loved this game to death, the DLC was phenomenal too.
I haven't finished the vid yet but you can turn off the golden guns in the pause menu in either the cheats or settings tabs. Also if you want for the immersion, just tap B to greet or respond to npcs.
I sure remember getting my hands on this immediately after release as a 15 year old. Man, I spent months on this game! Took me forever to play the sequel until I left the service so I've had lots of fun with that too!
i played this game a lot on my older brothers xbox when i was like 8 ngl , and i didnt understand the story too much, i just loved horses and playing as a "cowboy" lmfao but now both rdr games are my favorite games, and not just cause of the nostalgia. they're so good.
I've never been one to achievement hunt, but I do remember two distinct achievements that I earned from this game that made me so proud to get. Not because of the actions taken to get them but that I did them without any knowledge of the achievements existing in the first place. The first was hunting all of the buffalo to extinction and the second was being dastardly and placing a tied up woman on train tracks and watching a train run her over. Again it wasn't the actions taken that made me proud but that I had the idea to play out western tropes for the fun of it and got a little reward for doing so that is the level of awesome this game brought.
This game's vibe was just so.... different. While I absolutely love rdr2, nothing can top the first game for me. The music, ambiance, setting, dialogue, characters and just the overall serious tone of the game makes it so much better. And not to mention John Marston as the lead character, being a one man army and mowing down anyone that crossed his path... the amount of badassery I could relive if they remade this game. This game really is a timeless masterpiece, I'm really hoping for a remaster or remake in the near future.
Agree.. Ofc rdr2 may have been my most anticipated sequel of all time and it mostly lived up to the hype but... Rdr is more repayable, John is a better lead ( not to say Arthur isn't fantastic), not ONE of the musical moments held a candle to riding into Mexico and hearing far away for the first time after the first thrid of the game not having a single song.. And also.. I still kinda prefer the graphics and animations of the first game.. Allot snappier..
I played rdr1 first and glad it was by that order just becauese of the way the story goes. John talks so much about the gang and Dutch that he makes us know them without us laying eyes on them, its great and then seeing them for the first time,is excellent. Especially Dutch, that first impression is just saved in my head forever...roasting John,Abigail while robbing a bank...
Gun will forever stay in my #1 spot man hands down. And, if you’ve also played Darkwatch then you’d know that those two games are legendary and amazing on their own, no other games even come close to being anywhere near as fun as those two amazing games. If only they would remaster Gun AND Darkwatch man 😔
I gotta respect your opinion...but goddam its hard to accept it. Cant look at Gun and say its a better game than RDR. About Darwatch...dont have a clue what game that is.
I played this game once, and it wasn’t even the full game. I played for maybe 1 hours, but it was fun just riding around. Now I’m playing rdr2 and I always remember cow catching from my first time
ya they remastered it for one X just before RDR2 was out.. promotional act . looks and plays well now only 30 fps though on series x they should have uncapped the frame rate
man i remember my cousin left me alone to go somewhere on his ps3 with undead nightmare and i played for 15 hours straight and didn’t move from black water. just repetitively killed zombies for 15 hours straight. crazy stuff
It was so easy to cheese the horse sprinting in RDR. Slow tap the A button and the horse would continue to sprint, but the stamina would recharge fast enough to never run out.
bought this game a vew years ago because i lost it. dont have undead nightmare anymore but played that quite a bit more back in the day. it was so good man.
Great video! Red Dead Redemption literally saved my life. It's a pretty dark & deep story better not said in YT comments but yeah RDR saved my life. If this game didn't hook me in and give me a reason to feel happy again doing something other than what I was doing I 100% would not be here today. There is, of course, way more to the story but I just love seeing videos like this because it reminds me of that time & why RDR continues to be my favorite game of all time not only because it is an amazing video game but also for this.

This game is a bit more fun because honor doesn’t impact the story. And has the gta 4 engine.
Barely does anything
This also has a fame system which does more than the honour
@@kawaiiqueee RDR1 fame>>>>>>RDR2 honor>>>>>>RDR1 honor
This game was a HUGE part of my childhood as I live in Texas, EVERYONE was talking about the game at school and trying to find the "Loch Ness Monster".. ahhhh good times😔
Just starting playing Red Dead again, as I finished replaying Red Dead 2 for the 800th time, I’m amazed at how well it holds up 13 years later!
"There's one more for the voltures". LOL
Love the writing. This is really fun to watch.
Vultures
I still want a alt universe where John and Bonnie end up together and grow old 😂
And for RDR2, I dream of an alt universe where the gang does manage to escape to Tahiti. The story could be more light-hearted similar to Citadel dlc in Mass Effect 3, and Micah gets forgotten about and left behind in Strawberry.
Also have them kick out Leo Strauss
John and jack are so cool
After playing Rdr2 all the encounters with former gang members hit different. Like we know them as people now not only enemies...
The animations are amazing in this game, wish a port for PC.
I wonder how come it didn't come to the PC version?
Search "Red Dead Redemption 1 on PC using Xenia and keyboard+mouse"

The moment when you're in Mexico, riding on your horse and " Far Away" plays.
Change my mind, but that was one of the greatest Moments in Video game history.
When I was younger I would just free roam as Jack Marston on my dad’s 100% completed save game with my friend. We took turns playing, and we probably played it for at least a hundred hours in total just free roaming
I was 14 y/o when this dropped now I’m 25 an I spent some TIME on this game. The story and multiplayer was so great I can’t remember a happier gaming time
8:00 I remember always flying off that cliff too. Like it took me 10 tries just to cross that bridge cause I would always get pulled to the left
Bro the way jayvee screams when he falls off the cliff at 7:57 makes me die every time.💀😂😂💀
this game is 12 years old and it aged like fine wine
it looks better than some games today
Honestly, early game RD1 is one of the highlights of my gaming experiences. Perhaps something to do with my age back then or what was going on in the real world around me but this game was a godsend. You said it - "homely". There was just something about the ranch and Bonnie McFarlane etc that captivated me. I loved it to pieces.
as someone who has only recently played rdr1 I can confirm the game just feels incredibly cozy... especially at night in the desert riding your horse
I can still replay this game so many years after. I have lost count on how many.
I’m taking a guess that with the first game, because Arthur didn’t exist, Johns lore was that he was in Arthur’s position, like the second In command, even if we wasn’t actually
This is by far the best RDR game and the most fun RDR game
The more i see this Masterpiece the more i hate rockstar for not releasing it on PC. Finger crossing for a remaster and good PC port.
That's possible seeing the heart bleeding nostalgia.
Also if you want for the immersion, just tap B to greet or respond to npcs.
this game is a classic in my book
The clicks the menu makes is so nice idk how to explain it
i did every single thing in this game except win five finger filet, i could never get the hang of it in rdr1 it was so hard
Had the complete opposite experience lol, it's how I got most of my cash in RDR.
I feel old, I used to play this a lot. I think they made Bonnie in RDR2 completely different than she's in the first one
Falling off the cliff during the race is exactly what happened to me when I played this last week
8:35 : One of the greatest dramatic head turn in gaming
Makes me want to play it too, finished RDR2's epilogue a few weeks ago so it would make for a perfect follow up
I played rdr1 first and glad it was by that order just becauese of the way the story goes.
If only they would remaster Gun AND Darkwatch man 😔
darkwatch was the SHIT. definitely doing a video on that
I gotta respect your opinion...but goddam its hard to accept it.
Cant look at Gun and say its a better game than RDR.
About Darwatch...dont have a clue what game that is.
I played this game once, and it wasn’t even the full game. I played for maybe 1 hours, but it was fun just riding around. Now I’m playing rdr2 and I always remember cow catching from my first time
3:39 there is a setting in the game that turns all your guns gold, you don't even need to unlock or buy it.
The unlockable outfits was one of the best things, with the fine suit outfit you could cheat at poker
9:41 - Doctor: “How would Armadillo get by without me”. Now knowing the past of Armadillo - Wow, so true.
"The deputies definitely need our help." Runs across the bridge and within ten seconds jayvee dies. lol
Everytime I've played through this I've gone off the side exactly you did in the race against Bonnie. I'm convinced it's written in the game
We need a remake or remaster for this game.
A remake would be pristine
This game was ahead of its time.
In 4K it still looks better than some recent games. True masterpiece.
ya they remastered it for one X just before RDR2 was out.. promotional act . looks and plays well now only 30 fps though on series x they should have uncapped the frame rate
@@PapaTanduo it's not even a remaster, just the original game at 4K. It has aged like fine wine considering that.
If I could erase my mind of one game, to re-experience it once more….it’d be red dead BY A LONG MILE
man has more childhoods than an orphanage
👀👀
WHAT? You never played Undead Nightmare (too scared maybe)? That was so cool, such a shame they did nothing with it in RDR2 or GTA.
what's impressive is how this game Feels like the precursor to it's Pre-sequel.
Kind wish rdr2 was call red dead the pre-sequel.
man i remember my cousin left me alone to go somewhere on his ps3 with undead nightmare and i played for 15 hours straight and didn’t move from black water. just repetitively killed zombies for 15 hours straight. crazy stuff
Bro you should definitely play walkthroughs, I'd love to watch you play
I like the gold guns cuz in rdr2 I got my cattlemen gold and I like to think that the gold cattlemen john uses is the same one that Arthur used
arthur used a double action tho
@@heyitsmeskylar6564 Arthur's only canon gun is the Schofield (used in pictures and artworks by Rockstar)
@@thebadwolf3088 as soon as you get off the mountain tho arthur has a golden double action with engravings and a pearl grip tho
It was so easy to cheese the horse sprinting in RDR. Slow tap the A button and the horse would continue to sprint, but the stamina would recharge fast enough to never run out.
I remember in the beginning before you meet jake there's a guy in a black top hat and red bandana who you can kill with no mission fail
bought this game a vew years ago because i lost it. dont have undead nightmare anymore but played that quite a bit more back in the day. it was so good man.
10:07 Voice actor is Anthony Cumia from the Opie and Anthony show, very talented
You can turn off the gold weapons in the options.
This game is a masterpiece. Rockstar always make top notch storytelling for there games. Especially with the RDR games.
Gotta stay on trail to get the horse's speed boost. Love that.
Edit: best music in a video game ever. Change my mind.
