Huge if true!
WHAT! WOOHOOOO!
May I say I love love love the series ever since it started. Great work to everyone and keep up the good work.
I can't even watch it because it's unavailable for people outside of Australia 😢
Still unavailable outside Australia. I find it absolutely criminal.
"what if he was wearing a hard hat?!" - greatest line ever.
I agree. Some may think it's, "Go ahead, make my day," or, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." But truly nothing ... NOTHING beats, "what if he was wearing a hard hat?"
Sorry mate. I didn't get it. What does that even mean?
He needs a desk, mug, stationary, parking spot, personal assistant.
😂😂
A hard hat to boot...
Thus would actually be an example of fairly good management.
Recognize ability and use it.
Most places would fire the kid for making them feel foolish or some such.
They fired the old bloke for just that
Idk. They seem to be taking advantage of him.
@@shadowbandit3975 That's the joke, because in reality competence is not enough. Reliance on someone with so little to lose means they can easily leave you in the lurch. It's more important to have someone good enough who has a proven track record than having a star who shows up late or worse makes others look bad. This is why companies hire consultants, as they can take the blame for the mistakes of others.
I can't speak 100% for the public sector, but from working with private companies the usual routine is as follows:
Get employed to preform task A.
Preform task A.
If task A is preformed within the timeframe, task B gets added on top of the original workload.
If task B is preformed within the timeframe, task C gets added etc etc.
You get the idea. You are not hired for your expertice, but to preform a task. If you are found to be adept at this, the manager will just keep piling on more work.
In contrast I've heard from friends that government employment is much more relaxed in this regard. You work your scheduled hours and preform the scheduled tasks. If you finish early you can take it easy for the rest of the shift (again, this is only what I've been told).
bull crap, the kid isn't a genius or anything like that he can barley find his arsehole, having him do this at 15 is majorly irresponsible
At least they had the sense to realise that he could be doing some useful work for them.
Probably the most unrealistic part of the clip!
"what if he's wearing a hard hat?"
Yeah 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
I love it that the Tasmanian government is such a big fan of utopia that they are actually going to throw the state into a deep, dark lake of intergenerational debt to build the stadium joked about in a previous episode.
Utopia is not a comedy, it’s a documentary
That's the problem with Utopia, it keeps giving them ideas.
What the fuck does Tasmania need with a stadium?
yeah fuck school's and hospital's as long as we keep the drunk gambling addicted plebs happy who worship a cocaine sniffing athelete to kick a ball around.
Grow up Tassie basher
I just love all the characters in this series. They are crafted with such care and credibility. The scripts for each episode are all outstanding and the performances equally good. Many of them remind me of people I used to work with in my decades with both Federal and State public services. Which I guess is a little bit sad...😅😉
my wife works for federal and can't watch it... 😆
The best Aussie doco ever. Just scary how on point this show is.
When Tony and Jim get the lunches, you are doing something right.
Oh this is priceless. I saw the original and it had me in fits. Now with these Working Dog snippets I can send them to my daughter who has just started to work in a Government Department. She can’t believe how close to the mark this is. Have a popper or three. 🎉🎉🎉
The flurry of activity in video uploads from Working Dog Productions seems to indicate that Daniel is back for more work experience.
All episodes are perfect. This one and the one with retiree who comes in with his slide rule are more perfect than perfect.
"what if he was wearing a hard hat?" brilliant.
This is SUCH an underrated show.
There is no weak spots anywhere in any of these shows. Greatest sit-com ever!
This show is a gem - well written script, good acting and good directing. Why are other Australian productions so weak. We often hear the excuse of 'it takes too much time and we can't afford it' so how come Working Dog can do it?
Absolutely love this show! Why isn’t it famous throughout the bloody World?
As if government bureaucrats would ever recognize and incentivise a young talent.
Boomers gonna ride out their thrones until the very end.
@@joshbull623 Boomers have already retired. Keep up.
Every single person I work with is over 60, unless I'm an exception what @joshbull63 says seems true@@retyroni
Lots to like about these - especially the flawless comic-timing.
"what if he was wearing a hard hat" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
fantastic,,believable,,,brilliant !! everything about this - gold standard Australian docu-commedy.
This is one of the best shows ever. I got to see the first two series when it streamed for a while in the US, but it's not available anymore here. I wish someone in TV would figure out how awesome and hilarious this show is and make a deal to stream it again. Plus, on a related note, PLEASE stream 'Rosehaven' in North America. That's the other all-time great genius comedy I need in my life now. 'Utopia' and 'Rosehaven' both fill me with joy and make me laugh nonstop. Perfect ideas, writing, acting, everything. One of my favorite things: when Rhonda says in her assertive Rhonda-like way, "Disagree!"
Yes- find the Hollowmen. Heavily Australian politics from the Howard era. You’ll love it - one democracy to another!
Ditto for UK.
Wow. It is not available to stream, rent, or buy on any service... And I checked Plex, Just Watch, Trakt, and Reelgood.
There's always 🏴☠️!
Pollies love a good vanity project.
Serious question: Which platform were streaming it in the US? And what prompted you to watch it in the US?
Blockchain! dear God I'm dying.....this series is gold.
Just brilliant!
"What if he was wearing a hard hat" Get it? 'Block Chain' 😂😂😂😂 thats a fuckin good joke😂😂😂
I don't know if i'm the wrong audience for this, but having had to formally learn about distributed ledger technology as part of my Compsci degree, all I can think about is that this kid is a blockchain prodigy.
This is a joke, but in places like germany, switzerland and many countries around the world where they put a great effort to make Apprenticeships an attractive kind of education, this actually can happen quite often. The kid who worked in the company since they were 15 often knows more about the daily business of the specific company than someone fresh out of college.
Loving all these clips lmao. Is a new season coming out this year? If so, has the date of when been announced?
There is a new season. No date announced yet, rumours are early July
@@PhillipGWhiteyou have made my day!!!
The new season is running as a live performance in our current federal government unfortunately. They’ve already stolen the Future Fund and regional defence strategy (defending our trade with China from China), now they’re rebranding the cashless welfare card and substantive energy reform is also going to be neutered.
7 th of July, confirmed.
8pm Wednesday 7th June.
I was once in a gov't workplace, got put there for “retraining” after an accident. I worked 3hrs a day but got litterally twice as much done as all the full timers.
I worked census while that was going in. It was nice, hours we're flexible which was great because I was going to college at the time. Did 6 hour days and walked everywhere, and honestly did half as much as I could have. When college picked up it's pace I had to leave, I was told I got done twice as much as everyone else. People just slack off with government work I guess.
Reminds me years ago for a friend years ago who now writes for the papers as financial journalist. He was a very bright guy and may have originally built the computer programme where it's easier now to fill out your kiwi tax return. His first proper job as grad was working for Anderson Consultants who did a lot of work for huge fees for the NZ govt and they were nicknamed in the business sector as Anderson androids as they dressed the same and thought the same .he told me he did the bulk of the reports for his managers who were earning 3 to 5 times more but they did nothing!😀
Like how the show points out the private and government contracting suffer from pitfalls that are almost the perfect polar opposite of one another. Private exploits workers, government workers exploit the public.
I’ve done that once when asked for a quick strategy proposal - made a huge presentation about market demand and best in class examples globally compared to ours and how we could start to adapt to the need. They all ignored it, I stayed in my lowest-rung job for another 3 years.
Its a great documentary 😊
Love it!
New Zealand had a similar series called Gliding On it was based on the public service with a mix of government it ran in the 70s I think...it was so realistically "the Public Service"
Great stuff!
I work in state government policy and we all watch Utopia religiously, all the while wondering which mid level bureaucrat Rob Sitch obviously has chained in his basement working these scripts...
Brilliant!
Can you start a show on the Brisbane olympics?
'The Games" still probably stands up after 20+ years ...
This is the funniest episode but so true - when you work in government or big business the first thing you reallise is that those above you know F.A. about most things. So you end up training them.
So true, then we come to the assumption that they must’ve interviewed well or their an ex political staffer.
I heard the other week that the government is having another crack at high speed rail and almost wet myself laughing remembering the first series of this show.
God this is very accurate
A great successor to Frontline.
haha man this needed to be longer video like 20 mins i approve of this show
Where can I see this interview UK, so funny😂😂😂😂
Given the Aussie government performance, this show is probably more descriptive than fictional…
Daniel needs a desk!!!
How can I watch this show in Canada?
I need a Daniel in my life😂
We’ll grab the lunches! Lol
This show is almost real life , it really shows how most public servants behave , the few that want to do a great job and the anchors that hold them back. Red tape is a life goal for some .
You People are so bloody funny.
😆 Amazing
Oh, fuck me, this is going to be soooo good. Cannot. Wait.
This happened at my job. The graduate is sooo much better than anyone in the team. Like night and day better.
This is like a chatgpt conversation
Make sure he doesn’t shred this. Lol😂😂
"You see babies cry, and watch them grow. They'll learn much more than you'll ever know". Song: It's a Wonderful World.
This is how I found out there's a new season! How can I watch it in the US???
On iView via a VPN
I watched all the videos in this channel. I need to see this show! How can I watch it in the US??
VPN? its on ABC IVIEW
Hilarious!
Is this actual footage of Craig Wright? I assume it's only in the public domain because of the trial
Where can I get this in the UK?!
Utube maybe or the ABC store
Torrents? Or ABC I-view if you have a VPN.
Not gonna lie, this is exactly how I got my first office job
Well, that was refreshing, in a way. Competence instead of victimhood.
Speaking of typos, it's the wrong form of "its" on the cover
What if he's wearing a hard hat?
Hahahah classic
"Couple of typos I forgot to fix."
Yeah, like having "it's" instead of "its" on the front cover.
I work for a government department and there’s no way anyone is going to read, let alone acknowledge a discussion paper from a pleb (aka employee with no clout) on anything that could create a meaningful result. If they’d sat him down and told him to never speak of it or show it to anyone ever again, I’d have believed it more.
"Katyyyyyy!"
"What if he was wearing a hard hat?" 😅
Sadly, not on iview any more.

Is this a TV show or UA-cam show?
It's an Australian TV series called Utopia, produced by Working Dogs Productions (this channel). It's quite a few years old now. I'd say it is about time for another season, but all these jokes are still current and relevant in real life.
Anyone feeling lucky we are mostly will be retired when the AI is knocking on the door? Like the ChatGPT on the horizon…gosh, how those kids can compete with the AI when…wait, they probably will never need a job anymore…when the AI is taking over.
I just feel kind of unfortunate to be living in the time when technology is good enough to destroy everyone's jobs but not quite good enough to create a post scarcity society in which no one needs a job anyway.
@@DodderingOldMan yeah, but you know what will be the worst scenario? The War started and eventually some or maybe just need one lunatic to put the immature AI into all those war machines...to be honest, maybe few years back I never think the Terminator movies will be real, but just look at this world, look at where we are heading, the timing the occasions feel like it is all planned of us.
@@CodeMeat we need to ensure that future AI is less like Skynet and more like Mr. Data from Star Trek.
The hard hat would sell it.

Yes Minister in 2023…
ChatGPT most likely wrote that paper.
lol
tbh blockchain + government doesn't sound like a real job where your skills are matched against reality.
so funny
Just employ him lol
or when the guy you trained ends up being your boss
That's just a fact of life, come to a new job every 50+ guy thinks he's hot sht boss or something only to 1 month later you are already performing better than all of them combined, our generation is just smarter, better and more hard working what can I say, sure our grandparents were even more but not our parents
He's probably just using chat GPT lol
Lol
Haha, block chain and crypto are definitely not SCAMS
Every book being published right now about crypto currencies is telling us that blockchain is simplistic and nothing but a simple set of code. Not transformational.
And then boomers will be like "why doesn't the younger generation want to work"
Australia still has 3rd world internet. It's way behind on anything close to blockchain, the internet of things, augmented reality or artificial intelligence.
Internet is slightly worse in Australia compared to Germany, however the digitalisation of authorities in Australia is far forward compared to Germany
Sad thing is, he could be replaced by ChatGPT. Probably still need him to query ChatGPT.
The only people who think that aid can write a competent and concise piece of writing are people who can't write and don't read unless forced. To everyone in-industry it's painfully obvious and embarassing for people trying to pass off these alphabetti spaghetti articles and essays as informed and judiciously written pieces.
When the ai finally masters perspective and tense it might start to fool people but it can't even manage that consistently yet.
Atop all that... Writing isn't a chore to be avoided. If you believe it is, you don't understand it.
@@bartandaelus359 In other words, it would create a perfectly cromulent ministerial briefing note.
@@bartandaelus359 It's probably like that for the 1% of english user that master the language. I hate to say this but chatgpt probably write with better grammar and more coherent content than most people can. And remember this is just the beginning.
