I was diagnosed with LVH today. EF is 70% which is good. Will get medication for blood pressure. Anyone who thinks he/she has it, PLEASE get treatment ASAP.
I also have LVH and it sucks. My life is ruined because of my heart. I worked out and eat very healthy (I believe) yet I have Atrial fibrillation and HP, it really sucks!
I just found out I have LVH by way of an echocardiogram. I knew something was wrong because every time I would exercise my blood pressure would drop drastically and I'd get dizzy and weak with blurred vision. I'm 71 and going to my cardiologist in 2 weeks for treatment if there is treatment. Frightening. They first gave me a heart monitor for a week and I had an ultrasound of my carotid artery and then a echocardiogram. Good luck on what you find out.
I have been diagnosed as having LVH but have not received any explanations of what it is or the implications of LVH. Thank you so much for your clear, concise and comprehensive explanations of the key issues.

I have LVH from having a bicuspid aortic valve and severe aortic stenosis. I'm having surgery this coming Monday to replace the aortic valve. This video has been useful for me, thanks.
I have all the symptoms. I have a enlarged heart. The cardiologist says everything is fine. When I'm getting dizzy and feeling short of breath everything is not fine. Idk how some of these doctors become doctors if they are not gonna listen to there patients. I don't just go to the doctor because I wanna go I go because there is a reason. I personally don't have a grudge against any of them. Let's figure out what is wrong when I say my symptoms. I know my body and when something is off.
I’m 38, athletic built. I’ve been diagnosed with LVH, I’m not sure of the percentage of how thick the wall is. My BP is 120/86 regularly but I’ve been getting arrhythmia, it’s annoying. My cardiologist put me on 25mg Metoprolol Succinate ER. Im not gonna lie I’m living in fear.
How are you doing with this I was diagnosed with moderate LVH and I am 31. I do have a past of higher bp but now on meds to help it. Are you doing any better? Have you got any other evaluations?
The heart's left ventricle can also enlarge in endurance athlete's due to the adaptation of constant prolonged cardio conditioning. So why is that thought to be benign?
I wish we had more doctors like you. It’s people like myself that really get anxiety over being told things like this and it’s as if the doctors don’t really care. I always had issues with somewhat high BP. Not one Doctor never really mentioned starting me on meds. It was the cut back on salt and exercise. I would do that for a few months lose weight and gain it back. Lose and gain. Always up and down. I eventually lost about 45lbs and felt great 2018-2019. I was vegan. Had a lot of energy and all.Went to the doctor last year Bc I had a bad chest cold. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t pneumonia. So they did an X-ray. And he sat me down and said my heart was huge. I knew the doctor personally, he was a friend of our family so he was like a uncle of mine. He said this isn’t good and started me on BP meds. He said my ekg was great. Blood work was normal from my previous visit . My heart sounds good but he wanted to do a echo, sadly he died suddenly and since then I’ve been terrified about my heart. Never got the echo. He told me it could be reversed if I eat better and work out. However now I’m having More palpitations. Anxiety through the roof. I picked up 18lbs since last December. Everything that excites me causes more pvcs. I’m scared to work out. Everything makes me feel nervous. I finally went to the doctor last week. My dr didn’t seem bothered when I told her about my heart enlargement diagnosis and I guess she looked at my record and said she seen a slight enlargement but nothing alarming she did another ekg and that was great. I recently started taking anxiety meds. I told her I would feel more comfortable just having a echo done and she said am I sure? Bc it can be costly if my insurance doesn’t cover most of it. It’s like she’s making me feel like I’m worrying over nothing. A year ago my doctor basically made me feel like I was dying by saying this isn’t good at all. Now I have a doctor saying well I can try to put in a order if that’s what you want. So I have an echo coming up at the end of the month and I’m just terrified that the years of me having high BP and damage to the heart can’t be reversed and eventually I’ll die of heart failure. I’m only 32. I’m married with two small kids and just the thought of me leaving early over my mistakes of eating bad as a young kid will cost me my life is depressing. I have no shortness of breath, no swelling, BP is normal. 115/74 . But still having more frequent pvcs.

Salt is important part of our body. Salt: Na (40%)+ Cl (60%) General recommendation is no more than 6gm of Salt a day. Means 2400mg or 2.4gm of Sodium a day. Body needs only 1gm or 1000mg of Sodium to work effectively. (That includes anything that contains salt like sauce, noodles, pasta, bread, biscuits etc) Means Half a tsp is more than enough for your body to work. It is very essential for proper functioning of heart and brain. More salt you eat more your body retains water. Less you eat less water is retained. SOS free and vegan followers tend to lose weight very rapidly as salt can be found naturally in veggies. You don't need anymore help from outside as long as you eat plenty of veggies and fruits. Don't drink more than 2L of fluids. Excessive consumption of fluids can lead to Hypo or Hypernatreamia
Upshot: all the new and old studies based on hypertrophy correlation with mortality use pre 1990 data or at lease pre 2000. So there is no proof that reducing hypertrophy reduces mortality. Ie hypertrophy is just a proxy for high bp and vascular problems. The heart can adapt over a with range of demands just like any muscle, there is nothing pathological about a more muscular heart (eg, in athletes). The LIFE study paper claiming mortality was lower in lower hypertrophy after reduction of heart size on ARB and beta blockers didn't prove that either, because there was no placebo control (ie the most hypertrophied would still be the most hypertrophied afterwards, among the participants). Otoh it is known that bp meds cause a huge range of problems, kidney disease, maladaptation, hypoxia, etc. Whether they safeguard the heart is complete speculation, and since hypertrophy doesn't make the heart weaker, the heart wasn't the problem to begin with. What we do know is that vascular damage leads to heart attacks and strokes, and that vascular problems are caused by drugs and malnutrition. You just can't get clear mortality data for bp meds. The vaunted SPRINT trial which showed a slight mortality advantage with heavier bp treatment, excluded diabetes and ckd patients (proteinuria or polycistic). It only included patients with vascular disease. And the aggressive treatment had more severe side effects. They also excluded prior strokes or vascular events. Or heart failure. Or psychiatric factors. 11% on the aggressive bp treatment experienced kidney failure or acute kidney injury, vs 8% on the standard bp treatment, for patients over 75. They also fudged the numbers. The over 75 over half experienced severe events (life threatening), while for the total population they only included the severe events they thought were related to the bp medication (seriously?). So if you only look at the over 75, granted that's pretty old, but half experiencing life threatening events during the trial. In any case, their attribution of drug caused life threatening and fatal events was double in the aggressive treatment around 5%. Whereas mortality was between 3% and 4% in both groups. If there ever was a wash. Conversely the ACROSS study which included diabetes patients showed higher mortality with aggressive BP medication. So I'd say other than imparting side effect diseases, it's a bunch of crap. Unless your vascular system is decrepit so you need to make sure you don't stress it in any way, and, that is your only problem.
Hi. I'm 75 years old and have LVH after a heart attack in my left ventrical 15 years ago. I was overweight but a year ago I became Vegan (no meat. dairy, oils, low sugar and low salt) and lost 40 lbs. Now :175 lbs., at 5' 6". I see a cardiologist that is trying to bring my BP and pulse rate down with meds. I hsve A-Fib, but my pulse stays around 82. I feel O.K. but with an occasional swelling of the legs and shortness of breath in bed if I have some restaurant food with hidden salt, but it goes away with two days of diuretics. I am seeing my cardiologist in a few days for lab work and ECHO test. I may ask for another med as just the Carvedilol and Olmesartan doesn't seem to be bringing my BP down: 159/123 P 82.
@DK-pk5nn I had lost 40 lbs. My cardiologist is amazed on my improved lab work. I still have a slight A-Fib (80) but don't not feel exhausted like U used to. I recently discovered new scientific information on UA-cam about an old health technique called "Grounding" (also called Earthing). Grounding has amazing health benefits for the whole body, especially stopping "inflammation" , the main cause of .most human diseases including heart problems. diabetes. arthritis, sleep apnea. etc. Grounding acts very quickly with results and improves the body even more over time. Walking barefoot outside on the ground/grass is the free way. Also companies now sell products that you can ground yourself while sleeping. I just started this grounding but I already feel calmer and sleep great every night. Type in "Grounding" and/or "Earthing" on UA-cam to hear about the new discoveries and how Earth heals us if we are connected to it. P.S. Rubber soles came out in the 60's and diseases increased! Also wild animals never get cancer but many pets in people's houses (not grounded) do! Some people that do grounding say that over time, their A-Fib went away. they lost weight and their blood pressure returned to normal!
Left ventricular hypertrophy is more common in people who have uncontrolled high blood pressure. But no matter what your blood pressure is, developing left ventricular hypertrophy puts you at higher risk of a heart attack and stroke👏

I guess he's busy. But according to him, some weight loss & cardio are helpful, so it sounds like you're on a good track. Speaking from personal experience, weight lifting seemed to temporarily make me feel better but may have made my lhv worse as it feels bigger, and I noticed an uptick in atopic beats after I started lifting heavier weights for a few weeks. I'll go back to walking & much much lighter weights, reluctantly haha
Thank God. I was just diagnosed with this..71 years old..and very worried. I appreciate you going over this problem. I'm going to be careful...eat healthy and easy physical exercises daily. My BP goes down rapidly when I have physical exercise and then I drink salt water for the low BP but now I'm thinking I better not do that!! Dont want the BP to go up too high. Any suggestions? I see my cardiologist in 2 weeks. Thank you!!

Excessive cycling can cause physiological LVH. I had it 6 months ago. I stop cycling and it’s not reversed to normal. I didn’t have high blood pressure though.

This was a very good explanation of LVH and treatment. Clea👍 snd easy to understand.
This video has giving me hope and put my mind as ease.
Thank you so much Doctor
Thank you for the chat. Your video was quite eye-opening. I will follow up with my physician for further information and care.
You're such a wonderful and encouraging person!!! ❤️ Thank you!!
Very interesting, I need to get a scan to see if I have LVH. I'm surprised my Dr didn't organize one, as I have uncontrolled BP.
Youll be fine brother.
I got diagnosed last week. It's good to know that it can be reversed....
Thank you for your detailed explanation of LVH.
Only found this today, very informative and positive. Thank you and I hope you are able to continue with more in the future

I have been diagnosed as having LVH but have not received any explanations of what it is or the implications of LVH. Thank you so much for your clear, concise and comprehensive explanations of the key issues.
How old are you

Hello Jacob, how are you doing today ?
You give a hope to cure my symptoms Thank you.

The heart's left ventricle can also enlarge in endurance athlete's due to the adaptation of constant prolonged cardio conditioning. So why is that thought to be benign?

Thank you so much for this explaination.
Thanks for such great information!!
How did your echo turn out?
Are you still with us?
U good?
Are you ok now?
Amazing video! Thank you

Is there anyway you can talk about the importance of salt consumption, please?
Salt is important part of our body.
Salt: Na (40%)+ Cl (60%)
General recommendation is no more than 6gm of Salt a day.
Means 2400mg or 2.4gm of Sodium a day.
Body needs only 1gm or 1000mg of Sodium to work effectively. (That includes anything that contains salt like sauce, noodles, pasta, bread, biscuits etc)
Means Half a tsp is more than enough for your body to work.
Excessive consumption of fluids can lead to Hypo or Hypernatreamia
you are brilliant!,many thanks.
Thank you for your information ❤️
I may ask for another med as just the Carvedilol and Olmesartan doesn't seem to be bringing my BP down: 159/123 P 82.
hey is your health now better?
Thank you for all that you do.
Left ventricular hypertrophy is more common in people who have uncontrolled high blood pressure. But no matter what your blood pressure is, developing left ventricular hypertrophy puts you at higher risk of a heart attack and stroke👏
Cut out meat exersise and work out. It will disappear
@@teamrelentless2239 That is an ridiculous meat keeps your blood pressure significantly lower compared to carbs that raise your sugar levels and with that blood pressure

Thank you!!
What did your cardiologist say?
Just got diagnosed rather severe… M43 last. I bicycle 8km every day, never smoked and eat healthy food. Had massive high blood pressure without symptoms. Lucky me.
What is considered massive high blood pressure? Are you able to still exercise?
Excessive cycling can cause physiological LVH. I had it 6 months ago. I stop cycling and it’s not reversed to normal. I didn’t have high blood pressure though.

right on the button ace inhibitors and angiotensin 2 blockers are great for LVH. I was around for the launch of the first ACE inhibitor Captoptil / Capoten back in 1981 and over the years all the different approvals it was granted. I worked for over 30 years with the then Squibb Pharmaceuticals, now BMS. unlucky for me i was diagnosed at 60 with HCM the genetic disease hperytophic cardiomyopathy
I am 46 and was indirectly diagnosed with this in January. Thinking it as a mistake, I let it go. In June I noticed non-stop heart palps and SOB but also being an anxiety sufferer, it was easy to write off. I went today and here I sit, Holter monitor attached, confirmed LVH and I don't know what else yet. I've spent more than half the day upset that I'm too young for this and terrified at what appears to be a condition with little to no cure. What's done is done and it's only gonna get worse is essentially what I keep finding. You've just given me HOPE, doc. Thank you so much for this information.
